Timebeginsand endsanditwill adjustitselfforthosechangesautomaticallythrough
the year2099!Leap Yearstoo!And bestofall,the long lifelithiumbatterybackup
batteryisalreadyinstalled inyourradio.You don’thavetoremembertoputanew
9-voltbatteryinyourradioevery6months.Undernormalcircumstancesthe lithium
batterycan lastforup to5years,and when itdoesneed tobe changed,alow
batteryindicatorwill ‘flash’toletyou know.The CR2430 lithiumbatteryisavailable

The SmartSet®alsogivesyou dualalarmsthatcan be settogo off on weekdays

Unpacking And SetUp
•Removethe radiofromthe carton and removeall packing materialfromthe
radio.Wesuggestthatyou savethe packing material,ifpossible,inthe unlikely
eventthatyourradioeverneedstobe returned forservice.The originalcarton
and packing materialisthe onlysafewaytopack yourradiotoprotectitfrom
damage intransit.
•Removeanydescriptivelabelsorstickerson the frontortop ofthe cabinet.Do
notremoveanylabelsorstickersfromthe back orbottomofthe cabinet.
•Notethe serialnumberon the bottomofyourradioand writethisnumberinthe
spaceprovided on the Warrantypage ofthismanual.
•Placeyourradioon alevelsurfacesuchasatable,desk orshelf, convenient
toamainsoutlet, outofdirectsunlight, and awayfromsourcesofexcess heat,
dirt, dust, moisture,humidity,orvibration.
•Unwind the mainspowercordand extend ittoitsfull length.The FMantenna
isbuiltintothiscord.It mustbe fullyextended toprovide the bestFMreception.
Protect Your Furniture
Thismodelisequipped withnon-skidrubber‘feet’topreventthe product
frommoving when you operatethe controls.These‘feet’aremade from
non-migrating rubbermaterialspeciallyformulated toavoidleaving any
marks orstainson yourfurniture.Howevercertaintypesofoil based
furniturepolishes,wood preservatives,orcleaning sprays maycausethe
rubber‘feet’tosoften,and leavemarks orarubberresidue on the furniture.
Topreventanydamage toyourfurniturewestronglyrecommend thatyou
purchasesmall self-adhesivefeltpads,availableathardwarestoresand
homeimprovementcenterseverywhere,andapplythesepadstothebottom
ofthe rubber'feet'beforeyou placethe producton fine wooden furniture.

Thisradioisdesigned tooperateon normal230V50HzMainspoweronly.Donot
attempttooperatethe radioon anyotherpowersource.You couldcausedamage
tothe radiothatisnotcovered byyourwarranty.
Thisradioshouldbe connected toaMainsoutletthatisalways ‘live’.If you connect
thisradiotoawall outletthatiscontrolled byaswitch,the switchshouldbe left ‘On’
atall times.When the powertothe radioisinterrupted,the builtinlithiumbattery
takesovertomaintainthe timeand alarmsettings.Tomaximizethe lifeofthe
lithiumbatterykeep the radioconnected toa‘live’Mainsoutletatall times.
If thisplug doesnotfitintoyouroutlet, you probablyhavean out-dated Mains
outlet. You shouldhaveyouroutletchanged byaqualified licensed electrician

ThisSmartSet®Clock RadioincludesaSureAlarmbatteryback-up circuitthatcan
wakeyou up even ifthe poweris‘Off’atthe selected wakeup time.If yourpower
is‘Off’atthe selected wakeup timethe clock displaywill be off and the radiowill
notoperate,butaseparatemini-buzzerwill turn‘On’automaticallytowakeyou up,
even ifyou had selected the “WaketoRadio”option.The SureAlarmwill sound for
30 secondsand then shutoff automatically.
Tostop the SureAlarmbuzzerimmediately,press the RADIOON/OFF button.
Pressing the SNOOZEbutton hasno effectduring SureAlarmoperation.
NOTE:Inordertomaximizethe lifeofthe builtinlithiumbattery,pleasebe
suretosetthe ALARM1and ALARM2switchestothe “OFF”position ifthe
radiowill be disconnected fromthe Mainsoutletformorethan afewhours.

Tochange the defaulttimezone display,depress
the TIMEZONEbutton.The number“0”will
appearon the displayindicating thatthe default
zone isZONE0(GMT–0)Time.
Holdthe TIMEZONEbutton and then press eitherthe SET+or–buttonsuntil
yourowntimezone appearson the display,then releasethe buttons.
The clock displaywill change tothe correcttimeinthe timezone you selected.The
clock will always returntothe correcttimeinthe zone you selected afterevery
powerinterruption.
If you movetoadifferenttimezone,simplychange the defaultzone displaytothe
newzone and the SmartSet®will rememberthatsetting foryou.

Setting TheTime,TheFirstTime
IMPORTANT:The firsttimeyou connectyournewSmartSet®clock radioto
the Mainsoutletthe internalcomputerwill automaticallysetthe timecorrectly
for“GMT”whichisthe initialdefaultsetting.The displaywill scan forafew
secondsand then showthe correctDay and Time.Yourclock issetcorrectly
and running.
If you do notliveinthe “GMT”Timezone you mustchange the defaultzone display
toyourownzone.You onlydo thisone timeand the SmartSet®will rememberthe
newdefaultzone setting and will always returntothatsetting afterapower
interruption.

All BritishSummerand Leap Yearadjustmentsaremade automaticallyby
the SmartSet®internalcomputerasfollows:
•StartofBritishSummerTime:
At“2:00 AM”on the LastSundayinMarch,the clock will automatically
advanceto“3:00 AM”.
•End ofBritishSummerTime:
At“3:00 AM”on the LastSundayinOctober,the clock will automatically
resetto“2:00 AM”.
•LeapYear:
At“12:00 Midnight”on February28th,the calendardisplaywill change
to“29.2”.

ManualTimeAdjustments
Somepeopleliketosettheirclocks 5to10 minutesfasttomakesurethattheywill
always be on time.Even though the SmartSet®setsthe timebyitself, you still have
the option ofadjusting the timemanuallyifyou wish.
Tomanuallyadjustthe timedisplaydepress and holdthe TIMEbutton,and press
eitherthe SET+or–buttonstoadjustthe timedisplayahead orback asdesired.
Eachpress ofthe SET+or–buttonswill change the displaybyone minute.If you
holdthe SET+or–buttonsthe displaywill continue tochange.The displaywill
change slowlyatfirst, one minuteatatime.Butifyou continue holding the SET+
or–buttonsthe displaywill change rapidly.
NOTE:Ifyoumanuallyadjustthetime,yournewsettingisenteredintotheSmartSet®
memory.If the powerisinterrupted,the displaywill returntoyournewsetting,not
the originalsetting,when the powerisrestored.
Adjusting TheWake UpTimes
YourSmartSet®clock radiohastwoseparatealarmsthatcan be setand used
independently.You mayusethe alarmstowaketwopeopleatdifferenttimes,or
you mayuseone alarmforweekdays and the otherforweekend wakeup times.
The procedureforadjusting the wakeup timeisthe sameforbothAlarm1and
Alarm2.
1.)Depress and holdeitherthe ALARM1or
ALARM2setting button.The displaywill
change fromthe correcttimetotheAlarm1
orAlarm2wakeup time.
2.)Whileholding the ALARM1orALARM2setting button,depress eitherthe
SET+or–button tomovethe displayahead orback toyourdesired wakeup
time.
3.)When the desired wakeup timeappearson the display,releasethe SET+or–
buttons.
NOTE:Besurethatyou havesetthe wakeup timecorrectlybyobserving the
AMindicator.If the AMindicatoris‘On’the wakeup timeis“AM”.If the AM
indicatoris‘Off’,the wakeup timeis“PM”.
4.)When the desired wakeup time(AMorPM)appearson the display,release
the ALARM1orALARM2setting buttons.

Selecting TheAlarm Mode
YourSmartSet®clock radioallowsyou toselectfromamong three differentalarm
operation modesforeitheralarm.The alarmmodesare:
•Everyday –the alarmwill turnon all 7days.
•Weekdays only–the alarmwill onlyturnon Mondaythrough Friday;
•Weekendsonly–the alarmwill onlyturnon Saturdayand Sunday;
Tocheck theAlarmMode setting forAlarm1,depress the ALARM1setting button.
The displaywill showtheAlarm1wakeup timeand the dayofthe weekindicators
will showyou the alarmmode whichisselected.
•If all 7indicatorsare‘On’,the Everydaymode is
selected.
•If onlythe Mondaythrough Fridayindicatorsare
‘On’,the Weekdays onlymode isselected.
•IfonlytheSaturdayandSundayindicatorsare‘On’,
the Weekendsonlymode isselected.
Tochange the AlarmMode setting forAlarm1,holdthe ALARM1setting button
and press the ALARMMODEbutton until the dayindicatorsshowthe desired
mode setting,Weekdays only,Weekendsonly,orEverydayoperation.
Releasethe ALARMMODEand ALARM1setting buttonsand the displaywill
returntothe correcttime.
Followthe sameproceduretoselectthe desired AlarmMode forAlarm2if
necessary.
Checking TheWake UpTimes And Alarm Mode
Wheneveryou wanttocheck the wakeup timeorthe alarmmode settings,simply
press eitherthe ALARM1orALARM2setting buttons.The displaywill change
fromcorrecttimetowakeup timeand the dayindicatorswill showyou the alarm
mode whichiscurrentlyselected.
Releasethe ALARM1orALARM2setting buttonstoreturntocorrecttime.

Listening To TheRadio
1.)Setthe BAND selectortothe desired band,AMorFM.
2.)Setthe VOLUMEcontroltoalowsetting.
3.)Press the RADIOON/OFF button toturnthe radio‘On’.The radiodialpointer
will light.
4.)Selectyourdesired station withthe TUNINGcontrol.
5.)Adjustthe VOLUMEcontroltothe desired setting.
6.)When you arefinished listening,press the RADIOON/OFF button toturnthe
radio‘Off’.The radiodialpointerlightgoesoff.
AntennaInformation
AM–The AMbarantenna isinside the cabinet. IfAMreception isweak,change
the position ofcabinetuntil the internalantenna picks up the strongestsignal.
FM–The FMantenna isbuiltintothe Mainspowercord.If FMreception isweak
tryvarying the position and direction ofthe powercorduntil you find the
strongestsignal.

Wake To RADIO
1.)Turnthe radio‘On’and selectthe band,station,and volumelevelthatyou wish
tohearwhen the alarmcomeson,then turnthe radio‘Off’again.
2.)Reconfirmthe wakeup timeand alarmmode settingsforthe alarmyou are
using,Alarm1,Alarm2,orbothalarms.
3.)Setthe ALARMselectorswitchforone or
bothalarmstothe “RADIO”position.The
appropriateAL1and/orAL2indicatorswill
lightup toconfirmthatthe alarmsareset.
4.)Atthe selected wakeup timethe radiowill turn‘On’.It will playforone hourand
then shutoff automatically.
5.)Tostop the radiosooner,press eitherthe appropriateALARM1orALARM2
button,orpress the RADIOON/OFF button.The radiowill stop butthe alarm
remainssetand will turnthe radioon againatthe sametimeon the following
day(depending on the AlarmMode setting).
6.)If you do notwantthe alarmtoturnthe radioon the following day,setthe
appropriateALARMselectortothe “OFF”position.

Wake To Buzzer(Crescendo Alarm)
NOTE: Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 have different buzzer sounds.
•Alarm 1 is a “Single beep” sound.
•Alarm 2 is a “Double beep” sound.
You will be able to tell which alarm is going off by the sound that it makes.
1.) Reconfirm the wake up time and alarm mode settings for the alarm you are
using, Alarm 1, Alarm 2, or both alarms.
2.) Set the ALARM selectorswitchfor one or both alarms to the“BUZZER”position.
The appropriate AL 1 and/or AL 2 indicators will light up to confirm that the
alarms are set.
3.) At the selected wake up time the buzzer will sound. It will begin softly and
gradually increase in volume to wake you up. It will continue for one hour and
then shut off automatically.
4.) To stop the buzzer sooner, press either the appropriate ALARM 1 or
ALARM 2 button. The buzzer will stop but the alarm remains set and will turn
the buzzer on again at the same time on the following day (depending on the
Alarm Mode setting).
To stop the buzzer and turn on the radio immediately, press the RADIO ON/
OFF button instead of the ALARM 1 or ALARM 2 button.
5.) If you do not want the alarm to turn the buzzer on the following day, set the
appropriate ALARM selector to the “OFF” position.
RadioAnd BuzzerOperation
You mayalsosetone alarmforwaketoradioand the otherfor
waketobuzzer.Justsetthe ALARM1and ALARM2selector
switchestothe desired positions.

SnoozeAlarm
Afterthe radioorbuzzeralarmsoundsinthe morning you maypress the
SNOOZE/SLEEP OFF Barforafewmoreminutessleep.The corresponding AL
indicatorwill flash.
The alarmwill stop forapproximately9minutesand then turnon again.The Snooze
operation mybe repeated severaltimesifdesired butafterone hourthe alarmwill
notcomeon again.
SleepTo MusicTimer
You can programthe sleep timertoplaythe radioforup to90 minutesand then
shutoff automatically.
1.)Press the SLEEP button.The displaywill
brieflyshow“10”and the radiowill beginto
play.After10 minutesthe radiowill shutoff
automatically.
Eachtimeyou press the SLEEP button the sleep timerwill startat10 minutes.
Thisisthe sleep timerdefaultsetting.
2.)Toincreaseordecreasethe amountoftimethatthe radiowill playbefore
shutting off, holdthe SLEEP button and press eitherthe SET+or–button to
change the displaytothe desired sleep time,up toamaximumof“90”minutes
oraminimumof“02”minutes.
NOTE:When you change the sleep timerfromthe 10 minutedefaultsetting
toadifferentsetting,the newsetting becomesthe defaultsetting.Whenever
you activatethe sleep timeritwill beginwithyournewdefaultsetting and
countdowntozerofromthatpoint.
3.)Tocancelthe sleep timerbeforeitcountsdownto“00”and shutthe radio‘Off’
immediately,press the SNOOZE/SLEEP OFF Bar.
IMPORTANT:Rememberthatthe station and volumesettingsyou choosefor
the Sleep ToMusicoperation arethe samesettingsyou will hearifyou setthe
alarmforwaketoradiothe following morning.
DimmerControl
The DIMMERcontrolwassettothe HI(High)position atourfactory.
If you find the clock displayistoo brightinadarkened room,setthe DIMMER
controltothe LO(Low)position.

Changing TheLithiumBattery
Likeall batteries,eventuallythe builtinlithiumbatterywill need tobe replaced.A
numberoffactors,suchas,the lengthoftimebetween the datethe radiowas
manufactured and the dateyou plugged itinforthe firsttimedetermine the amount
oftimebeforereplacement. During thisinitialstorage period,the lithiumbatteryis
supplying powertothe SmartSet®computermemory.Onceyou plug the radioin,
yourhouseholdoutletsuppliesthe power,and the batteryisnotbeing used.A
freshlithiumbatterycan supplypowertothe SmartSet®computerforatleast3
yearseven ifitisneverconnected toaMainspowersupply.If yourradiowas
connected toyourMainssupplywithinafewmonthsafteritwasmanufactured,
and you experienceonlythe normal,nuisancetype,shortduration power
interruptions,yourbatterymaylastforup to5yearsoreven longer.
When the batterypowerdropsbelowacertainlevel,the LOWindicatorwill
‘flash’.When you see thisindicator,you shouldchange the batteryassoon asitis
convenientforyou todo so.Tochange the batteryproceed asfollows:
1.)Purchaseareplacement3Vlithiumbatterywhereverbatteriesaresold.The
batterytype isCR2430 orequivalent.
2.)Removethe batteryfromitspackage soitisreadytoinstall.
IMPORTANT:Leavethe radiopowercordconnected toyourMainsoutlet.
Thiswill provide powertothe SmartSet®computermemorywhilethe
originallithiumbatteryisremoved.
3.)Turntheradiofaceupanduseasmallscrewdrivertoremovethescrewsecuring
the batteryholdertothe cabinet.

4.)Removethe originalbatteryfromthe holderand insertthe newbatteryintothe
holderthe sameway,observing the positive(+)direction.Slide the holderwith
the newbatteryback intothe slotinthe cabinet.
5.)Replacethe screwthatsecuresthe batteryholderinthe cabinet.
6.)Turnthe radiorightside up and confirmthatthe LOWindicatoris‘Off’.
7.)Savetheseinstructions.You’ll havetodo thisagainfivetoeightyearsfrom
now!

Resetting TheClock AfterATotalMemoryLoss
If you do notchange the builtinlithiumbatterywithinareasonableperiod oftime
afteryou see the ‘flashing’LOWwarning indicator,the lithiumbatterymay
becomeexhausted and will no longerbe abletosupplyback up powertothe
SmartSet®internalcomputer.If the unitisdisconnected fromthe Mainsoutletafter
the batteryisexhausted,orifapowerinterruption occurs,the SmartSet®memory
will be lostand the clock will need tobe resetwhen the powerisrestored.Besure
toinstall afreshlithiumbatterybeforeyou resetthe clock,otherwisethe clock will
need tobe reseteachtimethe powerisinterrupted.
If the lithiumbatteryisexhausted and you experiencean interruption inthe Mains
powersupply,the clock will resetitselftoitsinitialdefaultsetting when the poweris
restored.
The initialdefaultsetting is“12:00 AM,Saturday,1stJanuary(1.1),2005”.
If you noticethatthe timeon yourSmartSet®clock radioiscompletelyincorrect,
and the dayofweekindicatorisalsowrong,press the DATE/MONTHbutton to
see the date.
If the datedisplayisshowing “1.1”,you
probablyexperienced atotalmemoryloss.
Toresetthe clock afteratotalmemoryloss,proceed asfollows:
1.)Followthe instructionsonpages16,17 andinstallanewCR2430 lithiumbattery
inthe batterycompartment.
2.)Connectthe radiotoyourMainsoutletand letthe clock setitself.
3.)Depressthe DATE/MONTHand TIMEbuttonstogether.The displaywillchange
from‘Time’to‘Year’.
Whileholding the DATE/MONTHand TIMEbuttons,press the SET+button
tosetthe displaytothe correctyear,then releasethe buttons.

4.)Depress the DATE/MONTHbutton.The displaywill change from‘Time’to
‘Date/Month’(DD/MM).
Whileholding the DATE/MONTHbutton,press the SET+button tosetthe
displaytothe correctmonthand date.The Dayindicatorwill change
automaticallyasyou adjustthe Date/Monthsettings.When the correctDate
and Monthappearon the display,releasethe buttons.
5.)Depress the TIMEbutton and the SET+button tosetthe displaytothe correct
time.Besuretoconfirmthatyou havesetthe timecorrectlyto‘AM’or‘PM’by
observing the AMindicator.
6.)Afteryou setthe time,reconfirmthattheDay,andDate/Monthdisplays arestill
correct. Makefinaladjustmentsifnecessary.
The SmartSet®clock memoryisnowresetand the newlithiumbatterywill maintain
itforthe next5to8years,depending on the numberand duration ofthe power
outagesyou experience.
IMPORTANTNOTE:
Afterresetting the clock,don’tforgettoresetyourwakeup times,and alarm
mode settings,and sleep timersettingsaswell.
