12. Cut the black, blue and white leads to a 2”
to 3” length, then strip 3/8” of insulation
from the leads (Figure 8).
13. Three new #18 GA stranded leads (black,
white and blue) should be cut a length of 16
to 18 inches longer than the downrod being
used. Feed all three new leads through the
motor wireway, enough to make splices
(Figure 9). Strip 3/8” of insulation and
connect the new leads to matching color
motor leads. Use wire connectors that are
UL listed and sized to connect two #18 GA
stranded wires. After splices are made,
follow Steps 3 through 8. Assemble and
install the ceiling fan per instructions in the
Ceiling Fan Owner’s Manual.
Do not exceed 6-foot downrod length. All
downrods must be Emerson downrods.
Use of other brand downrods will void
the warranty on this fan.
WARNING
!
WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, AND SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, FOLLOW THESE
INSTRUCTIONS.
Safety Instructions
1. READ YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL CAREFULLY AND KEEP IT FOR FUTURE
REFERENCE.
2. BEFORE SERVICING OR CLEANING UNIT, SWITCH POWER OFF AT SERVICE PANEL
AND LOCK SERVICE PANEL DISCONNECTING MEANS TO PREVENT POWER FROM
BEING SWITCHED ON ACCIDENTALLY. WHEN THE SERVICE DISCONNECTING
MEANS CANNOT BE LOCKED, SECURELY FASTEN A WARNING DEVICE, SUCH AS A
TAG, TO THE SERVICE PANEL.
3. BE CAREFUL OF THE FAN AND BLADES WHEN CLEANING, PAINTING, OR
WORKING NEAR THE FAN.
4. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING INTO THE FAN BLADES WHILE THEY ARE TURNING.
Additional Safety Instructions for Installation
1. TO AVOID POSSIBLE SHOCK, BE SURE ELECTRICITY IS TURNED OFF AT THE FUSE
BOX BEFORE WIRING.
2. ALL WIRING MUST SATISFY NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTRICAL CODES.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION SHOULD BE MADE OR APPROVED BY A LICENSED
ELECTRICIAN. USE THE NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE IF LOCAL CODES DO NOT
EXIST.
3. THE OUTLET BOX AND JOIST MUST BE SECURELY MOUNTED AND CAPABLE OF
RELIABLY SUPPORTING AT LEAST 50 POUNDS. USE ONLY U.L. OUTLET BOXES
LISTED AS ACCEPTABLE FOR FAN SUPPORT, AND USE THE MOUNTING SCREWS
PROVIDED WITH THE OUTLET BOX. MOST OUTLET BOXES COMMONLY USED FOR
SUPPORT OF LIGHT FIXTURES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR FAN SUPPORT AND
MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IF IN DOUBT.
4. THE FAN MUST BE MOUNTED WITH THE FAN BLADES AT LEAST 7 FEET FROM THE
FLOOR TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL CONTACT WITH THE FAN BLADES.
DO NOT COMBINE 2 OR MORE DOWNRODS.
5. WHEN ASSEMBLING FAN, BE SURE THAT DOWNROD IS SECURELY ATTACHED TO
THE MOTOR BY A STAINLESS STEEL SCREW AND TO THE HANGER BALL BY A
CROSS PIN (BOTH SUPPLIED WITH FAN), AND MAKE SURE SETSCREWS AT MOTOR
END AND HANGER BALL ARE TIGHTENED SECURELY AGAINST THE DOWNROD.
FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN THE FAN BECOMING LOOSE AND FALLING.
6. FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PROPER METHOD OF
WIRING YOUR CEILING FAN. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT ELECTRICAL
WIRING, OR NEED ELECTRICAL WORK NOT DESCRIBED IN THIS MANUAL, HAVE
YOUR FAN INSTALLED BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN.
(For use with Emerson Ceiling Fan
Unthreaded Downrods)
11. Feed the white wire down through the
motor wireway and pull completely through
the wireway (Figure 7).

2. Separate, untwist and unkink the three 80”
motor leads. Route the motor leads through
the downrod. Remove the downrod from the
motor coupling as follows: loosen setscrew in
motor coupling with the 5/32” setscrew
wrench. Remove hairpin clip from end of
clevis pin. Remove clevis pin, then slide
downrod from motor coupling. Retain all pins
and setscrews (Figure 2).
NOTE: If the downrod you are installing is
longer than 36”, skip to Step 9.
NOTE: If you feel that you do not have
enough electrical wiring knowledge or
experience, have your fan installed by a
licensed electrician.
NOTE: This downrod kit can only be used
with Emerson CF3000, CF4000, CF5000 and
CF700 Series fans with unthreaded
downrods.
If your fan already has a short downrod
attached, follow Steps 1 and 2. If no
downrod is presently attached, skip to
Step 3.
1. Remove the hanger ball from the downrod
(both supplied with your ceiling fan) as
follows: loosen the hanger ball setscrew
(Figure 1) and slide the hanger ball off the
downrod; remove the cross pin. Retain the
hanger ball and cross pin; they will be used in
a later step.
Assembly
To avoid possible electrical shock, be
sure electricity is turned off at the main
fuse or circuit breaker box before wiring.
All wiring must be in accordance with
National and Local Electrical Codes. If
you are not sure the electrical box and
fan are grounded, contact a licensed
electrician for advise. They must be
grounded for safe operation.

8. Once downrod is installed, measure wire
length above hanger ball to insure that lead
length is between 3 and 9 inches. Cut off
excess lead length with wire cutter, and strip
3/8” of insulation from ends of electrical
leads.
Make connections to household power supply
as per the Owner’s Manual that came with the
fan (use wire connectors supplied with fan).
9. Cut and remove the wire tie that is around
the black sleeving extending from the motor
assembly (Figure 5).
NOTE: Steps 9 through 13 are for use when
installing a downrod longer than 36” in
length.
10. Locate the black and blue leads in the
motor connector then pull the black and
blue leads through the motor wireway
