Mounting the Controller
Ifyouareinstallingthecontrollerinarack:
1. ReadtheRackInstallationGuideandRackInstallationInstructions
includedwiththerackmountingkit.
2. Installtherailsandthecontrollerintherack.
Ifyouaretablemountingthecontroller,ensureatleast6cmofclearance
onallsidesofthecontrollerforproperventilation.
Connecting to Power
RefertoFigure 1forthelocationofthebackpanelfeatures.
1. ConnectthetwoACpowercordsshippedwiththecontrollerto
powersupplies1and2.Thesetwopowersuppliescombinetocreatea
redundantpowersupply.
2. Optionally,secureandbundlethesystemcableswiththeVelcrostraps
thatshippedwithyoursystem.Loopthepowercableandusethe
Velcrostrapstoattachthecabletothehandle.
3. Plugtheotherendofthecablesintogroundedelectricaloutletsorto
separatepowersourcessuchasanuninterruptiblepowersupply
(UPS)orapowerdistributionunit(PDU).
4. Connectyourlaptopcomputerwithabrowsertothemanagement
port.
5. Poweronthecontroller.Thepowerbuttonisonthefrontpanelas
showninFigure 2.

Attaching the Front Bezel
Thecontrollercomeswithanoptionalfrontpanelbezel,whichcanbe
attachedtothefrontofthechassisbysnappingitonthechassishandles.A
keylockallowsyoutolockthebezelinplacetorestrictaccesstothe
controlsonthefrontpanel.You canmonitorthesystemstatusindicators
withthebezelinplace.

Replacing a Power Supply
Thecontrollerhastwopowersupplies,supplyinghot‐pluggablepower
redundancy.Thesystemdistributesthepowerloadacrossbothpower
suppliestomaximizeefficiency.Whenapowersupplyisremovedwith
thesystempoweredon,thefullpowerloadispickedupbytheremaining
powersupply.
Removing a Power Supply
1. Disconnectthepowercablefromthepowersource.
2. Disconnectthepowercablefromthepowersupplyandremovethe
Velcrostrapsthatbundleandsecurethesystemcables,ifinstalled.
3. Releasethelockingtabontheleftsideofthepowersupplybypressing
intowardtheright,asshowninFigure 4.
4. Pullthepowersupplystraightouttoreleaseitfromthepower
distributionboardandclearthechassis.

Replacing a Power Supply
1. Slidethenewpowersupplystraightintothechassis.SeeFigure 4.
2. Pushthehandleallthewaydownuntlitiscompletelyflushwiththe
powersupplyfaceplateandtheorangelockingtabengages.
3. Connectthepowercabletothepowersupply.
4. Optionally,secureandbundlethesystemcableswiththeVelcrostraps
thatshippedwithyoursystem.Loopthepowercableandusethe
Velcrostrapstoattachthecabletothehandle.
5. Plugtheotherendofthecableintoapowerdistributionunit(PDU)or
poweroutlet.
6. Allowseveralsecondsforthesystemtorecognizethepowersupply
anddeterminewhetheritisworkingproperly.Thepowersupply
statusindicatorwillturngreentosignifyproperfunctioning.See
Table 1.

AconfigurationwizardisnowavailabletohelpconfiguretheHiPath
WirelessControllerfornewdeployments.Thewizardguidesyouthrough
theinitialsystemconfigurationstepsthatarenecessarytodeploythe
HiPathWirelessController.Thewizardisautomaticallylaunchedwhen
anadministratorlogsintotheHiPathWirelessControllerforthefirsttime.
Alternatively,youmaystillelecttoprovisionthesystembymeansof
directelementconfigurationasdescribedbrieflybelowandindetailinthe
HiPathWirelessController,AccessPointsandConvergenceSoftwareGetting

normally. Remove and replace only one power supply at a time in a system
that is powered on.

Configure the Management Interface
YoucanretainthedefaultIPaddressofthecontroller’smanagement
interfaceifyoudonotintendtoconnectthecontrollertoyourenterprise
network.Ifyoudointendtoconnectthecontrollertoyournetwork:
1. Ifnotalreadydone,connectanEthernetcablebetweenthelaptopand
themanagementportofthecontroller.
2. ConfiguretheEthernetportofthelaptopwithastaticallyassigned
unusedIPaddressinthe192.168.10.0/24subnet.
3. LaunchyourWebbrowserandinthebrowseraddressbar,type
https://192.168.10.1:5825.(192.168.10.1isthedefaultIPaddressonthe
controller’smanagementport.)
ThislaunchestheHiPathWirelessAssistantonthecontrollerandthe
logonscreenisdisplayed.
4. IntheUserNamebox,typeadmin,andinthePasswordbox,type
abc123.
5. ClickLogin.
6. Fromthemainmenu,clickWirelessControllerConfiguration.
7. Intheleftpane,clickIPAddresses.TheInterfacestabisdisplayed.
8. ClicktheManagementPorttab.
9. Typethefollowinginformation:
–Hostname–ThenameoftheHiPathWirelessControllerC4110
–Domain–TheIPdomainnameoftheenterprisenetwork
–ManagementIPAddress–ThenewIPaddressforthecontroller’s
managementport.Changethisasappropriatefortheenterprise
network.
–Subnetmask–TheappropriatesubnetmaskfortheIPaddressto
separatethenetworkportionfromthehostportionoftheaddress
(typically255.255.255.0)
–ManagementGateway–Thedefaultgatewayofthenetwork
–PrimaryDNS–TheprimaryDNSserverusedbythenetwork

10. ClickSave.TheIPaddressesarenowsettothenetworkyoudefined.
TheWebconnectionbetweenthelaptopandthecontrollerisended.
11. Disconnectyourlaptopfromthecontroller’smanagementport.
12. Connectthecontroller’smanagementporttotheenterpriseEthernet
LAN.
13. LogontotheHiPathWirelessAssistant.Thesystemisnowvisibleto
theenterprisenetwork.
Configure the System
1. Beforeyoubeginconfiguration:
ResearchthetypeofWLANdeploymentthatisrequired.Forexample,
SSIDs,securityrequirements,andfilterpolicies.
2. Preparethenetwork:
Ensurethatexternalservers(forexample,DHCPandRADIUS
servers)areavailableandappropriatelyconfigured.
3. UsingtheHiPathWirelessAssistant,configuretheIPaddressesofthe
controller’sdataports,port1throughport4.
–ConfigurethedefaultIPaddressestobetherelevantsubnetpointof
attachmenttotheexistingnetwork,andsetuptheroutingprotocol
table.ThedefaultIPaddressis10.0.#.1.
–ConfigurethedataportstobeonseparateVLANs.
–Tomanagethecontrollerthroughtheinterface,selecttheMgmt
checkboxontheInterfacestab.
4. Selectthecountryandtimezone,thenrestartthecontroller.
5. Installthecontrollerlicenseandconfirmthelatestfirmwareversionis
loaded.
6. ConfiguretheVNS.
7. Install,register,andassignWirelessAPstotheVNS.
