SET-UP
Attach the plexiglass guard t the fr nt f the unit,
using the tw thumbscrews installed n the h us-
ing.
The M del R1S is shipped with f ur m unting
pads l cated n the base. It is rec mmended that
the unit be b lted t the w rk surface. Rem ve the
f ur m unting pads bef re attaching unit t the
w rk surface. Failure t rem ve the pads may
cause the h using t crack. A 6" (152mm) wide
b lt pattern using tw 5/16" diameter b lts may be
used t m unt the unit.
There is n further set-up required. C nnect the
unit t the pr per p wer supply. The US plug is f r
use n 115V, 60Hz mains supply. The Eur pean
plug is f r use n 220/240V 50Hz mains supply.
The UK plug is f r use n 220/240V, 50Hz mains
supply. The p wer c rd sh uld be plugged int
the IEC receptacle at the rear f the R1S. Be sure
t use a pr perly gr unded mains supply.
CAUTION: Envir nmental c nditi ns f r pr per
perati n sh uld be 50° F t 104° F (10° C t
40° C), and 30-75% relative humidity. The unit
sh uld be perated in an pen, well-ventilated
w rk area. This unit may be affected by utside
envir nmental disturbances. Sh uld p wer t the
unit be interrupted, the unit will n t restart until the
I/O ( n/ ff) switch is reset and turned n. The R1S
is rated f r c ntinu us use and is pr tected with a
circuit breaker in the I/O switch.
OPERATION
CAUTION: Safet glasses or other suitable e e
protection should be worn when using this
unit.
Turn unit n by pressing the I n the I/O ( n/ ff)
switch. Set up f r different wire sizes is by trial and
err r. Open the stripping wheels by use f the
space adjusting kn b l cated n t p f the R1S.
Insert the wire between the sl t in the guard and
the wheels and cl se the wheel spacing sl wly
until a slight pull n the wire is felt. Adjust the
pressure n the wire by use f the pressure
regulating kn b n t p f the unit, until the wire
may be easily pulled thr ugh the wheels and
stripped with ut breakage. Insert the wire int the
wheels fr m the side f the guard and at the
furthest p int back in the desired strip length n
the wire. Pull the wire sm thly thr ugh the
wheels and ut. Make wheel adjustments as
necessary until wire strips cleanly and with ut
undue pressure.
CAUTION: Never allow the wheels on the R1S
to grind against each other for an length of
time, as this can put strain on the n lon gears
in the head and ma cause stripping of the
gears. Refer to wheel dressing instructions in
Maintenance to learn how to avoid this oc-
curring.
MAINTENANCE
Wheel Dressing
Fybrglass wheels require frequent dressing t
ensure maximum stripping perf rmance and pre-
vent wire breakage. This is especially critical when
stripping fine gauge wires. Dressing sands the
wheels sm th and rem ves any insulati n em-
bedded in the wheels, as well as rem ving any
gr ves caused by stripping in the same sp t n
the wheels c ntinually. Wheels sh uld be dressed
whenever the perf rmance f the wheels deteri -
rates. Regular dressing will increase wheel life
and pr ducti n. Wheels may be used t within 1/
8" (3.2mm) f their arb r h le. A wheel dresser is
included with the R1S.
T dress the wheels, with the unit running, pen
the wheels slightly and insert the wheel dresser
pr vided, between the wheels. Cl se the wheels

Installing/changing wheels
Stripping wheels f r the R1S must be rdered
separately. See wheel selecti n guide in the r-
dering inf rmati n secti n.
T change wheels rem ve the guard and the nuts
n the ends f the upper and l wer shafts. N te:
The l wer shaft has a left hand thread and the
upper shaft has a right hand thread. Slide the ld
wheels ff the shaft and replace with the new
wheels and secure the nuts back n the shafts.
If replacing standard wheels with any f the bev-
eled (BEV) wheels, the BEV wheels are a press fit
n the shafts as they are l nger than the standard
wheels. The nuts are n t used with BEV wheels.

to reduce the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped
with an electric cord having an equipment-grounding
conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be
plugged into a matching outlet that is properly installed
and grounded in accordance with all local codes and
ordinances.
Do not modify the plug provided if it will not fit the
outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified
electrician.
Improper connection of the equipment-grounding con-
ductor can result in a risk of electric shock. The green
conductor with or without yellow stripes is the equip-
ment-grounding conductor. If repair or replacement of
the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect
the equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal.
Check with a qualified electrician or service personnel
if the grounding instructions are not completely under-
stood, or if in doubt as to whether the tool is properly
grounded.
Use only 3-wire extension cords that have 3-prong
grounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles that accept the
tools plug. Repair or replace damaged or worn cord
