SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Warning! Read all instructions. Failure to follow all instructions listed below
may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. The term “power tool” in
all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Work area safety
a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the
presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks
which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
2. Electrical safety
a. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any
way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes,
radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock
if your body is earthed or grounded.
c. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a
power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or
unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or
moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable
for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric
shock.
3. Personal safety
a. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when
operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or
under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention
while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or
hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position
before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up
or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or
energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in
personal injury.
e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This
enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair,
clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or
AG850 ERB013GRD-M-070609.indd 4 2007-6-13 14:58:11

115mm ANGLE GRINDER
long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and
collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use
of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
4. Power tool use and care
a. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your
application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for
which it was designed.
b. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any
power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be
repaired.
c. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from
the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or
storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting
the power tool accidentally.
d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow
persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate
the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the
power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before
use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with
these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the
work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those
intended could result in a hazardous situation.
5. Service
a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only
identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is
maintained.

your tool for continuous working. To switch off
your tool, depress the rear of the spring loaded
switch (See Fig 1).
2. Hand grip areas
Always hold your angle grinder firmly with both
hands when operating (See Fig 2).
3. Anti-vibration auxiliary handle
This auxiliary handle incorporates a flexible
vibration absorbing mounting between the bolt
and handle grip to reduce vibration and increase
comfort.
Note: The handle fixing to the gear case is flexible
and not a rigid clamp. You have the option of two
working positions to provide the safest and most
comfortable control of your angle grinder (See
Fig 3). The handle is screwed clockwise into either
hole on the sides of the gear case. Always use the
auxiliary handle.
4. Spindle lock button
Must only be used when changing a disc. Never
press when the disc is rotating!
5. Disc fitting
The inner flange (6) is located over the spindle
(7) and on the two spindle flats. Locate the disc
onto the inner flange and then the outer flange (5)
screwed onto the spindle. Press the spindle lock
button (4) and rotate the spindle until it locks, then
firmly tighten the outer flange using your special
spanner to clamp the disc (See Fig 4). The pins on
your special spanner locate in the holes on the

WORKING HINTS FOR YOUR
ANGLE GRINDER
1. Your angle grinder is useful for both cutting
through metals, i.e. for removing screw heads,
and also for cleaning / preparing surfaces, i.e.
before and after welding operations.
2. Different types of wheel/cutter will allow the
grinder to meet various needs. Typically, wheels/
cuttings are available for mild steel, stainless
steel, stone and brick. Diamond impregnated
discs are available for very hard materials.
3. If the grinder is used on soft metals such as
aluminum, the wheel will soon clog and will have
to be changed.
4. At all times, let the grinder do the work, do not
force it or apply excessive pressure to the wheel/
disc.
5 If cutting a slot ensures that the cutter is kept
aligned with the slot, twisting the cutter may
cause the disc to shatter. If cutting through thin
sheet only allow material, excessive penetration
can increase the chance of causing damage.
6. If cutting stone or brick, it is advisable to use a
dust extractor.
MAINTENANCE
Warning: Ensure the grinder is
disconnected from the mains power
supply before attempting any maintenance.
1. Keep the grinder ventilation slots clean and free
from obstructions. If available, blow compressed
air into the vents to clear any internal dust (safety
goggles must be worn when undertaking this
process).
2. Keep the outer case of the grinder clean and
free from grease. Do not wash with water or use
solvents or abrasive. Use only mild soap and
damp cloth to clean the tool. Never let any liquid
get inside the tool. Never immerse any part of the
tool into a liquid.
3. Your angle grinder requires no additional
lubrication. There are no user serviceable parts in
your power tool.
4. Always store your power tool in a dry place.
5. If the supply cord of this power tool is damaged,
AG850 ERB013GRD-M-070609.indd 12 2007-6-13 14:58:13

115mm ANGLE GRINDER
it must be replaced by a specially prepared cord
available through the service organisation.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Although your new angle grinder is really very
simple to operate, if you do experience problems,
please check the following:
1. If your grinder will not operate check the power
at the main plug.
2. If your grinder wheel wobbles or vibrates, check
that outer flange is tight, check that the wheel is
correctly located on the flange plate.
3. If there is any evidence that the wheel is
damaged do not use as the damaged wheel may
disintegrate, remove it and replace with a new
wheel. Dispose of old wheels sensibly.
4. If working on aluminum or a similar soft alloy,
the wheel will soon become clogged and will not
grind effectively.
5. If the supply cord of this power tool is damaged,
it must be replaced by a specially prepared cord
available through the service organisation.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Waste electrical products should not be
disposed of with household waste. Please
recycle where facilities exist. Check with
your local Authority or retailer for recycling
advice.
