Control Feature Operations
EngineStopSwitch
Thestopswitchisaredcoloredrockerswitchlocated
ontheleft‐handhandlebar.
Tostartandruntheengine,thisswitchmustbe
placedintheon,position.
Thevehicleisalsoequippedwithasafetybrake
switchwhichwillpreventtheenginefromstarting
untiltheparkingbrakeisengaged.
Tostopyourengine,placetheswitchtothestop,
Position
Inthestop,Positiontheignitionsystemis
groundedpreventingthesparkplugfromfiring.
Thisswitchcanalsobeusedasasafetyoremergency
stopswitch.
TurnSignalSwitch
Theturningsignalswitchisathreepositionswitch
locatedontheleft‐handhandlebar.Slidingtheswitch
inthedirectionoftheintendedturnwillilluminate
thefrontandrearturnsignallampsinablinking
mode.Pressingthewhitebutton,onthecenterof
theswitch,willreturntheswitchtotheneutral
positionandcanceltheilluminationoftheturning
lamps.
HornButton
Thehornbuttonisayellowpushswitch,located
belowtheturningsignallampswitchontheleft‐hand
handlebar.Pressinginonthebuttonwillsoundthe
audiblehornsignal.Releasingthebuttonwillsilence
thehorn.
HeadLightControlSwitch
Forsafety,theheadlightsystemofthisunitwas
designedtobeilluminatedatalltimeswhiletheunit
isrunning.Theintensityofthelightischangedby
usingtheheadlightcontrolswitchlocatedonthe
right‐handhandlebar.Itisathreepositionslide
switch.Farrightpositionsetsbeamintensityto20%
(DayTimeRunning),middlepositionsetsbeam
intensityto80%(LowBeam),andfarleftposition
setsbeamintensityto100%(HighBeam).
ThevehicleisequippedwithaPTCcontrollerthatwill
dimthelightstothe20%positionautomaticallyifthe
engineRPMfallsbelowthepre‐setthresholdfor
morethanaminute.IncreasingtheengineRPMwill
returnthelighttothenormallevelforthecontrol
switchselection.

IgnitionSwitch
Theignitionswitchislocatedonthecontrolcolumn's
rightsidebelowthehandlebars.Akeyisrequiredto
worktheswitch.Thisswitchhasthreepositions,
On,Offand" “Locked.
Theswitchmustbeintheonpositionforthe
enginetostartandrun.The offposition
disconnectspowertotheignitionandlightcircuitsand
stopstheengine.The“”lockedposition,locksthe
steeringcolumnandallowsthekeytoberemoved.In
ordertoturnthekeytothe""lockedpositionyou
mustpressdownonthekeywiththesteeringcolumn
turnedslightlytotheleft.
NOTE:Alwayslockyourvehiclewhenleavingit
unattendedandtakeyourkeysforadditionalsecurity
againsttheftofyourvehicle.
Theignitionkeyalsounlocksyourfuelcapandunder
seatstoragecompartments.
InstrumentPanel
Theinstrumentpanelprovidesyouwithoperating
conditionsofyourvehicle.Totheleftisthefuelgauge
whichindicatesthefuellevelinthefueltank.When
theneedlereachestheredzoneonthegauge,youare
runninglowonfuelandthetankshouldberefilled.
Thisgaugeiscontrolledbyafuellevelsendingunit
locatedinsidethefueltank.
Thecenterspeedometerindicatesthecurrentspeedof
yourvehicle.Thespeedometeriscalibratedinboth
MPH,(Milesperhour)andKPH,(Kilometersperhour).
Thisgaugeiscontrolledbyacableattachedtothe
frontwheelofthevehicle.
Therightsideisaseriesofthreeindicatorlamps.The
topmostlampsinthepanelwillindicatethattheturn
signalhavebeenactivatedandalsoindicateswhich
signallampsareilluminated.
Therightindicatorlampindicatestheheadlight
controllerisintheHi‐Beam,100%,positionwhen
illuminated.
Theleftlampindicatesthe2cycleoillevelintheoil
tank.Whenilluminatedyouroiltankislowandneeds
toberefilled.Continuedoperationsoftheenginewith
alowoilconditionwillcauseseveredamagetothe
engineandpotentiallyunsafeoperatingcondition.
RefillyouroiltankwithHighgradeJASOFC2cycle
injectoroil.

ManualChokeLever
Thisscooterisequippedwithamanuallyoperated
carburetionchokesystem.Theenginechokeleveris
usedtoenrichthefuelmixturewhenstartingthe
enginefromacoldstart.
Whenfirststartingtheengine,(coldstart),placethe
leverinthefullleftposition,(Chokeclosedoron)After
allowingtheenginetowarmupfor15‐20seconds,
slowlymovetheleverbacktotherightuntiltheengine
idlesdownrunssmooth.
Thelevertothefullrightisthenormaloperation
position.(Chokeopenoroff).
ThrottleControl
Thethrottlecontrolistheright‐handhandlegrip.
Throttleiscontrolledbytwistingthegrip.Thethrottle
controlisspringloadedandsetatthefactorytoreturn
totheidlepositionwhenpressureisreleased.
Toincreasethethrottle,twistthehandlegripina
counterclockwiserotation.Todecreasethrottle,twist
thehandgripinaclockwiserotationorreleaseyour
pressureandallowthethrottletoreturnonitsown.
Thethrottlecableshouldbeadjustedsothereis
5‐10mm,(¼"),freetravelofthethrottlehandgrip
beforethethrottlestartstoopen.
Keepthethrottlecablelubricatedandoperating
smoothly.Ifthecablesticksorishardtooperate,
lubricatethecablebydisconnectingthecablefromthe
throttlehandgripandlubricatingwithacommercial
cablelubricantavailableatyourdealer.
Replacethecableifitshowssignsoffrayingor
corrosionoriskinkedorbent.
Toadjustthethrottlecable'sfreeplay,slidethe
protectivecoverdownthecabletoexposethecable
adjustingsystem.Loosenthelockingnutandadjust
thecablelengthbyturningtheadjustingcollar.Check
thefreetravelinthethrottlehandgripuntilyouhave
5‐10mm,(1/4")freetravel.Tightenthelockingnut
againsttheadjustingcollarandslidetheprotective
coverovertheadjustingsystem.
Replacethecableifthereisnoadjustmentremaining
ortheproperfreetravelcannotbeobtainedwiththe
adjustmentsystem.
BrakeSystems
FrontandRearBrakes
Thisvehicleisequippedwithfronthydraulicdiscbrake
andarearhydraulicdiscbrake.
Thefrontbrakeiscontrolledbythelongbrakeleveron
theright‐handlebar.Therearbrakeiscontrolledbythe
longleverontheleft‐Handlebar.

Therearbrakeistheprimarystoppingbrakeonyour
vehicle.Usingtherearbraketostopyourvehiclewill
preventsteeringcontrolloss.
Useyourfrontandrearbrakesincombinationto
controlyourspeedwhiledescendingagrade.Use
cautionnottoapplytoomuchpressuretoyourfront
brakesothatthewheelslockup,stopturning,and
causealossofsteeringcontrol.Ifthefrontwheelslock
up,stopturning,lightlyreducethepressureonthe
frontbrakeleveruntilitunlocksandthewheelstartto
turn.
BrakeSystemInspection
Visuallyinspectthebrakelinesforanysignsofwear.
Inspectthelinesforleaksatallconnectionsandlook
forwearalongtheentireline.Replacethelineifany
wornareasarefound.Thebrakeisundergreat
pressurewhenthebrakesareappliedandanyworn
spotcouldcausearuptureoftheline.
Inspectthebrakearm,spring,rodandfastenerfor
signsofwearordamage.Operatethebrakelever
whilewatchingthebrakemechanismforproper
operation.Tighten,repairorreplacespartsasneeded
toinsuresafeandproperoperationofthebrake
system.Cleananybuild‐upofmudordebrisfromthe
brakemechanism.
Thebrakesareequippedwithawearindicatortoalert
youwhenyourbrakepadsneedreplacing.Applylight
pressuretothebrakeleverandslowlypushtheunit
forward.Ifyouhearahighpitchedmetallicscraping
sound,youneedtoreplaceyourbrakepads.The
minimumpadthicknessis3.0mm.
DONOTRIDEAVEHICLEWITHWORNBRAKEPADS.
Checktherotordiscforcracks,warpingorcolor
distortion.Replacerotordiscatfirstsignofproblem.
Checkrotordiscthickness.Minimumthicknessis
3.1mm.Replacethediscifbelowminimumthickness.
Checkthefluidlevelinthefluidreservoirbychecking
thesiteglassforthelevel.
Thefluidlevelshouldfillatleast¾ofsiteglasswhen
theunitissettingonalevelsurface.
Testthebrakesbyapplyingpressuretothebrakelever
andtryingtopushtheunitforward.Ifthewheel
rotateswhilethebrakesareapplied,checkyourfluid
levelandbrakepads.Ifthebrakeleverfeelsspongyor
doesnotstopwhensqueezed,youmayhaveairinthe
lines.Allairmustbepurgedfromthebrakelinesfor
thediscbraketooperateproperly.(Seepurgingbrake
lines).

HydraulicFluidReservoir
Removethereservoircoverbyremovingthetwocover
bolts.
Fillthereservoirto1/8"fromtopwithDot‐3SAEJ1703
gradebrakefluid.
Refoldthecovergasketasshowninpictureand
replacecoverandbolts.
Caution:
DONOTallowdirttofallintothereservoir.

PurgingtheBrakeLines
Forthehydraulicbrakesystemtooperatesafely,the
brakesystemmustbepurgedofairinthelinesand
reservoir.
Tobleedtheairwillrequiretwopeopletoperformthe
followingprocedure.
Placeadrainpanunderthebrakecalipertocatchthe
fluid.
1. Openthebleedervalve1/2turncounter
2. Squeezethebrakelevertoexpelairfromthe
system.
3. Whileholdingthebrakelever,closethebleeder
valve.
4. Repeatsteps2through4untilthebrakefluid
comingfromthebleedervalveisasolidstream
withoutanyair,thenclosethevalveand
replacerubberprotectioncap.
5. Testthebrakesystembysqueezingthelever.
6. Thelevershouldfeelfirmandstopwithout
fading.
FuelSystem
FuelTank
Thefueltankfillcapislocatedattherearofthe
vehiclejustbehindtheseat.Yourvehicleisequipped
withalockingfueltankcapthatisopenedwiththe
samekeythatisusedintheignitionswitch.
Tounlockyourcapsimplyinserttheignitionkeyinto
thelockandturnclockwiseuntilthecapreleases.Lift
thecapfromthetankandrefuelyourvehiclewith
unleadedautomotivegradegasolineof89octaneor
higher.
FuelCap
Toreplacethecap,aligntheLocatorlugonthecap
withthenotchinthetankneckandpressthecap
downuntilyouhearthelockinglugsclick.
Everytimeyourefuelyourunit,checktherubberseal
insidethecapforcuts,tearsanddirt.Cleanorreplace
thesealifitbecomeswornortorn.
Thesealmustbeingoodconditiontoensureaproper
sealofthecaptothetanktopreventfuelspills.DO
NOTallowdirtorotherdebristoenterthetankwhen
refueling.

Replacethecapifdamagedorifitwillnotsealtothe
tank.Thefueltankcapacityis5.5liters,1.5gal.
NEVERREFUELYOURVEHICLEwhentheengineis
runningorwithahotexhaustsystem.
SpillingfuelonaHOTengineorexhaustcouldcausea
fire.
Wait30minutesafterturningofftheunitbefore
refueling.Wipeupanyfuelspillsbeforerestarting.
InlineFuelFilter
Yourvehicleisequippedwithaninlinefuelfilterto
preventdirtanddebrisfromenteringthecarburetor
andengine.
Thefiltershouldbereplacedevery10,000milesor
eachyearofoperation.Replacementandfuelline
inspectionshouldbeperformedbyanauthorized
ETONdealeronly.
DONOTstartoroperatetheengineifthefuelfilteror
linesareleaking.Leakingfuelcancauseafire.
AirFilter
Tomaintainthehighestperformancefromyourengine
andtoreduceexcessivewearthatcouldcauseengine
failuretheenginerequiresacontinuousflowofclean
air.Airistakenintotheenginethroughanairfilterto
cleantheairpriortomixingitwithfuelandoilinthe
carburetor.
Duringnormaloperationthefilteraccumulatesdirt
fromtheairandwillneedtobecleanedtomaintain
theproperairflow.Thefiltershouldbecleanedevery
3000miles,moreoftenifyourideinadustyordirty
environment, andtheelementshouldbereplaced
everyyear.
Theairfilterboxislocatedontheleftsideofthe
engineunderthebodycover.Itisablackboxabout6"
squareandisattachedtothecrankcasewithtwobolts
andthecarburetorbyatube.

CleaningtheFilter
1. Removetheairfilterboxcover.
2. Removethefilterelementfromtheairbox.
3. Washtheelementinanon‐flammablesolvent
suchasAir‐Filtercleanerfromyourlocalauto
partsdealer.
4. Drytheelementcompletelybeforecontinuing.
5. Soaktheelementincleanengineoiluntil
completelysaturated.
6. Squeezeouttheexcessoiluntiltheelement
doesnotdripanyoil.
7. Allowtheelementtodrythenreinstallthe
elementandcover.
TiresandWheels
ThetiresandwheelsofyourBeamerhavebeen
engineeredtomatchthesuspensiontogiveyoua
smooth,comfortableride.Theywerealsodesignedto
affordyouwithmileageeconomy,togiveyouthebest
milespergallonpossible.
TirePressures
Recommendedtirepressures(Cold)are:
Front120/70‐1218psi/1.25kg/cm2
Rear130/70‐1225psi/1.75kg/cm2
SparkPlug
Replacethesparkplugevery10,000milesoriftheplug
shouldbecomedamagedorfouled.Werecommend
thatyouuseNGK‐CR7HSA.
Disconnectsparkplugwire.Cleandirtfromaround
sparkplugbasewithbrushorair.(Caution:donot
allowdirtorforeignmaterialtoentertheengine)
Removesparkplugwithsparkplugwrench.Setthe
sparkpluggaponthenewplugto0.023".Installthe
newplugscrewingitinfingertightandthenusethe
plugwrenchtoscrewthepluginanother½ turn.
Inspectthesparkplugwireforcuts,nicksorother
damage.Replaceasneeded.
ElectricalBattery
TheBeamer’sbatteryislocatedunderthefloorboard
matandsupplieselectricalpowertotheelectrical
system.Thebatteryisa12voltgelacidtypethat
containsnoliquidelectrolyte.
Thebatteryshouldberemovedfromthevehiclewhen
storedforextendedperiodsandchargedbeforebeing
replacedintheunit.Useatricklechargersetat12
voltstorechargethebatterytofullchargebefore
replacingitintheunit.

Whenreinstallingthebattery,besuretoconnectthe
redcabletothepositive(+)terminalandtheblack
cabletothenegative(‐)terminal.Thebatteryshould
bereplacedeverythreeyearsorwhenitnolonger
holdsacharge.
Donotexposethebattery,forextendedperiodsof
time,tofreezingtemperatures.Ifthebatteryhasbeen
frozenitwillneedtobereplaced.
Thereisaninlinefuseonthepositiveleadofthe
batterytoprotectthewiringsystemfromoverloads.If
yourstartermotorwillnotturnoverandthebatteryis
fullycharged,checktheinlinefuseontheunit.
Replacethefusewitha7Afuse.
FrontForks
Checkthefrontforksofyourvehicleforsignsof
damageorleakingoil.Ifeitherisnoticed,returnthe
vehicletoyourdealerforservice.
EngineOilCooler
Theengineoiliscooledbypumpingtheoilthroughan
externaloilcoolingradiatorlocatedatthefrontofthe
unit.ItisimportantthattheCoolingfinsoftheradiator
bekeptcleanofdirtBuilduptopreventengine
overheating.Removeanybuildupofmudanddirt
fromthecoolingunitwithapressurizedsprayof
water.
InspecttheOilcoolerlineforleaksanddamage.
Replaceanydamagedlinesandrepairanyleaking
connectionsbeforestartingtheengine.

Engine&TransmissionOil
CheckingEngineOilLevel
YourScooterusesautomotivetypeengineoilto
lubricatetheengine.Theengineoildipstickislocated
ontherighthandsideofyourenginebelowthe
transmissionshiftinglever.
Tocheckyouroillevel,removethedipstickbyturning
thethumbholdcounterclockwiseuntilthestickhas
beencompletelydisengagedfromthethreads.Pullthe
dipstickoutofthecrankcaseandcheckthelevelof
theoilasindicatedonthedipstick.Theengineoilis
fullwhentheoilreachesthelevelonthestickas
indicatedinthephotoabove.
Alwayscheckyourengineoillevelwiththeengineoff
andcold.Removingthedipstickwiththeengine
runningcouldcausehotoiltosplashfromthe
crankcasecausingsevereburns.
Checkingyourengineoilwhiletheengineishotcan
giveyouafalsereading;alwayschecktheoillevelwith
acoldengine.
YourenginerequiresSAE20W‐40engineoilandthe
crankcasecapacityis1.0Liters/1quart.Theengineoil
shouldbechangedbeforethestartofeachriding
seasonorevery1000Kmofoperation.Whenriding
whereconditionsaredustyorhumidityishighthe
engineoilshouldbechangemorefrequently.
ChangingEngineOil
1. Placeanoilcatchpanundertheunitdirectly
belowtheenginecrankcase.
2. Removethecrankcasedrainpluglocatedon
thebottomofthecrankcaseontheunderside
oftheunit.Removetheengineoildipstick
locatedontherighthandsideoftheengine
belowtheshiftershaft.
3. Allowtheoiltodraincompletely(15‐30min).
4. Reinstallthedrainplugandtighten.Torqueto
17‐22Ibf‐ft
5. FillthecrankcasewithofSAE20W‐40engineoil
throughthedipdipstickhole.1liter/1quart.
6. Reinstalltheengineoildipstickandfinger
tighten.
7. Disposeofusedoilataproperrecycling
stationasrequiredbylaw

YourScooterusesSAE80W‐90gearoiltolubricatethe
driveandtransmissiongears.Thegearoilshouldbe
changedbeforeeachridingseasonorevery5000Km
operation.
1. Placeanoilcatchpanundertheunitdirectly
belowthetransmissionbox.
2. Removethetransmissionboxdrainbolt.
3. Removethetransmissionboxfillholebolt.
4. Allowtheoiltodraincompletely(15‐30min).
5. Reinstallthedrainboltandtighten.Torqueto
9‐12lbf‐ft
6. FillthetransmissionboxwithSAE80W‐90
gearoil150ccengine=180cc/6.1oz
7. Reinstallthefillholeboltandtorqueto9‐
12lbf‐ft.
8. Disposeofusedoilataproperrecycling
stationasrequiredbylaw.
BeamerBreakInprocedures
YourBeamerrequiresabreak‐Inperiodjustaswithall
otherinternalcombustionengines.Thisperiodallows

1. CheckingyourScootertakesonlyafew
minutesandmaysaveyoufromserious
injuriesandcostlyrepairs.
2. Checkengineoillevel.
3. Checkenginefuellevel.
4. Checkbrakeoperationsandbrakefluidlevel.
5. Checktireconditionandpressure.
6. Checkthrottleoperationandfreeplay
adjustment.
7. Checkenginestopswitchforproperoperation.
8. Checksteeringsystem.Lookforfreeand
smoothoperation.Checkallfastening
hardware.
9. Checkallnuts,boltsandotherfastenersfor
looseconditions.
10. Inspectunitforanybrokenordamagedparts.
11. Checkallindicatorlightsandswitchesfor
properoperation.
12. Ensureyouarewearingproperclothingand
protectivegear,suchashelmetandhardsoled
shoes.
StartingProcedures
Thefollowingproceduremustbefollowedeachtime
youstartyourBeamer.
Parktheunitonalevelsurface.
Insertthekeyintotheignitionswitchandturntothe
"ON"position.
Turntheenginestopswitchtothe"ON"position.
Applyslightpressuretothethrottlegrip.
Holdinbothbrakeleverswhilepressingthestarter
buttonontherighthandlebarswitch.

startingwithoutthebrakesbeingapplied.
Yourunitshouldstartwithin10secondsofpushingthe
starterbutton.Iftheunitfailstostartcheckthe
following:
1.Enginestopswitchis"ON”position.
2.Brakeleversappliedfully.
Ifyourbatterydoesnothaveenoughchargetoturn
thestartermotoryoucanusethealternatekickstarter
tocranktheengine.
Swingthekickstarterfoot‐pedaltotheoutboard
positionandwhileholdingbothbrakelevers,applya
quickdownwardpushtoturntheengineover.
DrivingyourBeamer
YourBeamerwasmanufacturedtomeetallFederal
D.O.T.regulations.Stateandlocalregulationsgovern
theuseofthisclassofvehicle.Checkwithyourlocal
DMVofficebeforeridingthisvehicleonthehighway.
Setyourselfinacomfortablepositionontheseatwith
bothhandsonthehandlebars.Ensurethatyouhavean
unobstructedoperatingareafromwhichtocontrol
yourBeamer.Whencarryingapassenger,always
ensurethattheyplacetheirfeetonthepassenger
pedals.Alwayskeepyourfeetonthefootrestsand
yourhandsonthehandlebargripswhileoperating
yourBeamer.Doingsowillgiveyouthebestcontrolof
theunit.
BesurethatyouandyourpassengerareNOTwearing
loosefittingclothingthatcouldbecomeentangledin
themovingpartsofthevehicle.Startthevehicleina
forwardmotionbyslowlyincreasingthethrottle
pressure.Neverplacemorethan12lbs/5kgloadon
therearrack.Doingsomaycausethevehicleto
becomeunbalancedandcauseanunsafedriving
condition.
Nevercarryanythingonthehandlebarsoryourlap
whiledrivingyourvehicle.Doingsocancausealossof
controloverthevehicle.
Learntosteeryourscooterbyshiftingyourweightin
thedirectionoftheturn.(Leanintotheturn)
Useyourfront&rearbrakestocontrolyourspeedand
tostop.Suddenbrakingforcecancausethevehicleto
startsliding.Toregaincontrol,releasethebraking
pressureuntilyouhaveregainedcontrolofthevehicle.
Whentheroadsurfaceiswet,thebrakingdistanceis
doublethatofwhentheroadsurfaceisdry.
Keepasafedistancebetweenyourselfandthevehicle
infrontofyou.
Itisnotrecommendedtooperatethisvehiclein
slipperyconditionssuchasonsnoworicecovered
roads.
Whengoingdownhill,releasethethrottlegripanduse
yourbrakestocontrolyourspeed.Afterwashingyour
vehicleyourbrakeshoeandpadmayhavebecome
wetandwillreducethebrakingforceuntiltheyhave
hadachancetodry.
ParkingyourBeamer
1. Alwaysparkyourvehicleonalevelsurface.
2. Turntheignitionkeytothe"OFF"position
tostoptheengine.
3. Settheenginestopswitchto"OFF”
position.
4. Turnyourfrontwheelslightlytotheleftand
turntheignitionkeytothelockpositionto
lockthesteeringcolumn.
5. Removetheignitionkeytoprevent
unauthorizeduseortheftofyourvehicle.
6. Parkthevehiclebyusingeitherthemain
parkingstandorthesidekickstand.Thestands
arelocatedontheleft‐handsideofthe
vehicle.
