Prohibition symbol
Failure to observe instructions marked with a prohibition symbol may result

Warnings:
Never remove a panel unless the power supply has been disconnected by
the repair switch.
Both panels at the same time, as the cabinet becomes unstable.
Unsuitable
areas The handling unit must not be used to transport solid particles, nor in
areas where there is a risk of explosive gases.
No duct
connection
If one or more of the spigots is not connected to a duct:
Fit the protective net to the spigots with a maximum mesh width of
20 mm (in accordance with EN 294).

These instructions apply to EXHAUSTO air handling units. Please refer to the product
instructions for accessories and extra equipment.
These instructions must be fully observed to ensure personal safety, to protect the
equipment and to ensure correct operation of the air handling unit. EXHAUSTO A/S
accepts no liability for personal injury or material damage caused by failure to follow the
guidelines and instructions in this manual when installing and/or using the product.
Accessories The checklist on the front of this instruction lists which accessories have been delivered
with the air handling unit.
NB When retro-fitting accessories from EXHAUSTO, please update the list on the front
cover.

1.Product information
Comfort ventilation EXHAUSTO air handling units are used for comfort ventilation. The unit’s operating
temperature range is -20°C to +40°C for outdoor air temperature. However, for optimum
operation at low outdoor air temperatures a pre-heating coil should be installed.
Unsuitable The air handling unit is not to be used to transport solid particles, nor in areas where
there is a risk of explosive gases.
Positioning The unit is designed for indoor fitting. The unit may be fitted outdoors if it is fitted with a
cover (accessory VEX300HOD).
1.2.1 Spatial requirements
The cabinet has a removeable panel on each side. The drawing below indicates how
much space is needed for servicing the unit, i.e. changing filters, cleaning, servicing,
etc. See section 1.4 "Principle dimensions VEX330H", page 8 for further dimensions.

1.2.2 Requirements for underlying surface
When fitting the unit directly to an existing surface - i.e. without using the mounting base
(accessory) - the surface must be:
• even
• level (+/- 3 mm per metre)
•hard
• resistant to vibration
1.2.3 Outlet A condensation outlet must be installed in the immediate vicinity of the unit.
See also “Mechanical fitting” section.
1.2.4 Duct system requirements
Connecting to duct
system
To achieve maximum performance and minimal energy consumption, the unit should be
connected to a straight duct at least 750 mm long, before and after the unit.
Silencers The duct system must be fitted with silencers specified by the person responsible for the
project, in accordance with the requirements for the area of use.
Insulation The duct system must be insulated against:
• condensation
•noise
• heat/cooling loss

If one or more of the spigots is not connected to a duct:
Fit the protective net to the spigots with a maximum mesh width of
20 mm (in accordance with EN 294).
1.3.1 The function of the air handling unit
The air handling unit is variably adjustable and consumes little energy.

1.3.2 The design of the air handling unit
Layout drawing The drawing below shows the unit’s design (with doors open) :
Cabinet The interior and exterior of the cabinet are made of sheet aluminium-zinc. The cabinet
is insulated with 50 mm mineral wool.
Fans The unit contains two centrifugal fans for extract air and supply air.

Counter flow heat
exchanger
The unit’s counter flow heat exchanger is made of aluminium and is highly efficient. The
counter flow heat exchanger can be removed and cleaned.
Filters The unit includes panel filters for both extract air and outdoor air.
Bypass design The unit has a built-in, variably regulated, bypass function, to ensure that the
combination of outdoor air and heat exchange is correct.

2.Handling
Delivery The delivered items are:
• Air handling unit
• Supplied with accessories (as indicated in the checklist on the front page of the
instructions)
•
Packaging The unit is delivered attached to a disposable pallet and packed in clear plastic.
NB Once the plastic has been removed, the unit must be protected against
dirt and dust.
• The covers on the spigots must not be removed until the spigots are
connected to the ventilation ducts
• Whenever possible, keep the unit closed during assembly

2.2.1 Passage through openings
Unit dimensions The list (below) shows the unit’s dimensions, and is intended to indicate how large an
opening has to be for the unit to pass through:
Using lifting truck or fork-lift truck Using a crane
Transport the air handling unit on the
disposable pallet.
IMPORTANT: If the disposable pallet is not used,
the forks on the lifting gear must be long enough
to support the entire length of the unit, to avoid
damaging the base. Do not lift the unit by its
spigots or connection box
Never use a crane to lift the air handling
unit by the lifting handles.

NB It is important that the air handling unit is installed on a horizontal surface.
3.1.1 Installed directly onto the floor.
Requirements for floors must be met. See Section 1.2.2 "Requirements for underlying
surface" . If the floor surface does not meet those requirements, then the VEX300H must
be installed on a suitable base – described below.
NB After installation, make sure that the air handling unit is completely level.

Method of
operation
The filter monitors register falling pressure across the filters. A filter monitor is fitted on
each filter. When the fall in pressure exceeds the set value on the filter monitor, the filter
symbol lights up on the control panel.
Positioning The filter monitors are installed inside the connection box. Using a snap lock, the filter
monitors can easily be removed, e.g. when setting them.
Factory setting From the factory, the filter monitors are set to the lowest value on the scale. The filter
symbol on the control panel will, therefore, initially be illuminated.

EXHAUSTO recommends replacing filters when the drop in pressure has increased by
100 Pa, equivalent to a reduction in airflow of 12–15%. However, the filters must be
inspected every 6 months, and replaced at least once a year. The filter monitors can be
set differently, if another filter-change interval is required.
NB Before setting the filter monitors:
• Initial adjustment of max. airflow in the unit is required
• The filters must be clean
Set the filter monitors as described below:
3.2 Setting the filter monitors

1 Remove the cover from the connection box
2 Set max. air flow on the control panel (level 9)
3 Make sure that any dampers in the duct system are open
4 Turn up both filter monitors until the filter symbol on the control panel
switches off
5 Turn dial until the filter symbol lights up again
NB: The system reacts very slowly, so the adjustment must be carried out
slowly. Repeat the adjustment process if necessary

7 Set pressure level at which the filters must be replaced. (EXHAUSTO
recommends that the filter monitors are set at, the value you read
+ 100 Pa)
8 Set the filter monitor so that the arrow points to the required level of
pressure

The unit is fitted with three temperature sensors (extract air, outdoor air and a sensor for
detecting ice on the counter flow heat exchanger). A fourth sensor measures supply air
temperature. On delivery this sensor is rolled up in the control system box.

The temperature sensor measures supply air and must be fitted to the supply air ducts
(see overview page 7)
• The temperature sensor is fed through one of the rubber sleeves into the
connection box
• Drill a 16 mm hole in the supply air duct for the sensor. The hole must be approx.
1 m from the unit
• The sensor is fitted with four self-tapping screws (not supplied by EXHAUSTO)
• The rubber sleeve on the temperature sensor seals the duct, making it airtight

Connection Before the condensation outlet to a floor-mounted drain or similar.
The condensation outlet must be fitted with a water trap.
Risk of frost When there is a risk of frost:
Insulate the condensation outlet and protect it against frost, if
necessary, using a heating cable.
Positioning The drawing below illustrates the correct positioning of the water trap from the
condensation outlet.
NB When the VEX300 is mounted on a base, there is sufficient free height to accommodate
the water trap.

4.Electrical installation
The work must be performed by an authorised electrician, in
accordance with applicable rules and legislation.
Repair switch In accordance with The Machinery Directive *a repair switch must be
permanently installed in the unit.
The repair switch must
• be lockable or positioned in the immediate vicinity of the unit and easily
visible
• disconnect all poles from the supply voltage
- contact at least min 3 mm contact distance in each pole
• set up as a current isolator in accordance with EN 60 204-1
The repair switch is not supplied by EXHAUSTO.
*Please refer to Machine Directive (98/37/EF/-EEC/-EWG/-CEE) - Appendix 1, item 1.6.3 “Separation of the
sources of energy”. 1.6.3 “Separation of the sources of energy”.
Warning
Do not open the service door unless the supply voltage has been
disconnected by the repair switch

4.2.1 Fuses and supply cable
Fuses The fuses must be suitable for:
• Short-circuit protection of the unit
• Short-circuit protection of supply cable
• Overload protection of supply cable

When dimensioning the supply cable, the conditions at the installation location, including
temperature and cable duct lay-out, must be taken into consideration.
• The unit must be protected against indirect contact
The measures selected for this should be earthing, zero
grounding or installation of an earth leak circuit breaker
• Any current leak circuit breaker fitted in the installation must be
of a type that breaks the circuit when a vagrant current with DC
content (pulsating DC, FI breaker type A, in accordance with
standard IEC 755, Amendment 2).
The circuit breakers must be marked with the following symbol:
