Scope This instruction manual is for use with EXHAUSTO VEX-type air handling units.
Pleaserefer tothe productinstructions regardingaccessories andextra equipment.
The instructions must be fully observed to ensure personal safety and to protect the
equipment and ensure its correct operation. EXHAUSTO A/S accepts no liability for
accidents caused by equipment not used in accordance with the manual’s instruc-
tions and recommendations.
Warnings
Opening the unit Do not open the service doors until the supply voltage has been
disconnected at the isolation switch and the fans have stopped.
Prohibited uses The VEX unit is not to be used to transport solid particles or in
areas where there is a risk of explosive gases.
No duct connection If one or more of the spigots is not connected to a duct: fit a pro-
tective net to the spigots with a maximum mesh width of 20 mm.

1.3 Application
Comfort ventilation EXHAUSTO VEX is used for comfort ventilation tasks. The VEX unit is designed
for ceiling mounting and must be used as such.
Operating temperature range for the unit – see section "Technical data".

Prohibited uses The VEX unit is not to be used to transport solid particles or in areas where there
is a risk of explosive gases.
1.4 Location requirements
Positioning The unit is designed for indoor fitting. The unit may be positioned with the side
opposite the connection box up against a rear wall.
NB If the VEX unit has sliding doors, space must be allowed for opening the snap locks
on the rear (75 mm).
1.4.1 Space requirements
VEX320C with
hinged doors The cabinet has two hinged doors. The drawing below indicates how much head- room is needed for opening the doors and servicing the unit, i.e. changing filters,
cleaning, servicing, etc.

Space requirements, width: 1,370 mm. (Width of unit (995 mm.) plus room for
opening connection box (300 mm) and for opening tension fittings on the rear (75
mm)).

1.4.2 Ceiling requirements
When fitting the unit to a ceiling, the ceiling must be:
●flat
●resistant to vibration
●horizontal or sloping towards the condensation outlet
●designed to bear the weight of the unit
1.4.3 Requirements for duct system
Silencers The duct system must be fitted with silencers specified by the Project Manager,
which meet the requirements of the operating area.
Connection to duct
system A duct bend may be fitted immediately after the unit, because the airflow in the spigot has a uniformly low speed profile, resulting in negligible system pressure
drop.
Insulation The duct system must be insulated to prevent
●condensation
●sound leakage
●heating/cooling losses
Prerequisites Adequate insulation of the duct system in the operating area is a prerequisite for
achieving the calculated sound data during operation.
Condensation Condensation in the ducts may occur when the exhaust/outdoor air has high hu-
midity. EXHAUSTO recommends a condensation outlet is also fitted at the lowest
point in the ducts.
No duct connection If one or more of the spigots is not connected to a duct: Fit a
protective net to the spigots with a maximum mesh width of 20
mm.

1.5.2 Parts of the VEX unit
Cabinet The inside and outside of the cabinet is made of Aluzinc® The cabinet is insulated
with 50 mm mineral wool.
Fans The unit contains two centrifugal fans with backward curved blades for extract air
and supply air.
Counter flow heat
exchanger The unit's counterflow heat exchangers are made of aluminium and are highly ef- ficient. The counterflow heat exchangers can be taken out and cleaned.
Filters The unit includes integral compact filters for both extract air and supply air.
Condensation outlet The condensation outlet is located on the VEX unit door (see previous drawing in
this section). The condensation tray is positioned internally in the door.
Bypass damper The unit has an integral variably adjustable bypass, allowing for precise control of
the supply air temperature.

2. Handling
2.1 Unpacking
Supplied compo-
nents The following components are supplied: ●VEX unit
●Supplied accessories (as indicated in the checklist on the front page of the
instructions)
Packaging The unit is delivered upright and firmly fixed to a disposable pallet and packed in
clear plastic.
Remove transport
fittings Before fitting the unit:
●Remove transport bracket (1) and trans-
port stays (2)
●Carefully lower the VEX unit

NB Once the plastic has been removed, the unit must be protected against dirt
and dust:
●The covers on the spigots must not be removed until the spigots are
connected to the ventilation ducts.
●Whenever possible, keep the unit closed during fitting.
The unit should be
cleaned before it is
used.
Once the VEX unit is fitted, it must be checked and thoroughly cleaned. All dust,
debris and metal shavings must be vacuumed up.
2.1.1 Weight The VEX unit weighs 131 kg.
2.2 Transport
Transport Transport the VEX unit on the disposable pallet. Do not lift it with the spigots or
connection box.

2.2.2 Internal transport with reduced weight
Weight reduction The unit's weight can be reduced during transport by removing the doors, fan units
and counter flow heat exchanger. The table below shows the how much weight can
be reduced by removing the various parts.

3. Mechanical assembly
3.1 Positioning of unit
3.1.1 Mounting on ceiling
Dimensioning Ceiling mountings must be dimensioned from the unit's weight.
Mounting must be carried out in accordance with the Project
Manager's instructions.
Suspension The unit is designed for suspension from a ceiling with the doors
facing downwards - as described in the following. The unit must
not be used lying on the ground.
It is important that the VEX unit is suspended horizontally or
sloping towards the condensation tray, which collects conden-
sate and drains it away.

Installation
Step Action
1 Fit the suspension fittings to the unit
2 Fit the unit to the ceiling in accordance with the instructions from the
Project Manager.
3Check that the unit hangs horizontally or slopes towards the condensation
tray.
4 Clean and vacuum clean the VEX-unit to remove metal shavings, etc.

3.1.2 Insulation using self-adhesive foam strip
Applies only to VEX
with hinged doors To ensure that the VEX's doors can be opened, the accompanying self-adhesive foam strip should be mounted on the duct closest to the the VEX. (See drawing).

3.2 Condensation drain
Drain the condensation outlet into a floor gully or similar. The
condensation outlet must be fitted with a water trap. See below.
Risk of frost Where there is a risk of frost: Insulate the condensation outlet
and protect it against frost - if necessary, using a heating cable.
Water trap The following drawing shows an example of how the drain from the condensation
outlet can be established and the correct dimensions for the water trap. Use HC
pipe (HT, DN32, DIN4102)

NB: The condensation outlet must be dismounted before the door can be opened. For
this reason the pipe layout must allow the HC pipe to be pulled out of the conden-
sation outlet.

5. Maintenance, hygiene and servicing
5.1 Operating readings via the HMI panel
HMI panel Refer to the "EXact Basic Instructions for the VEX320/330/340/350/360" for in-
structions on accessing Menu 2 Operating readings via the technician menu (ac-
cess code 1111) to check the unit's operating status.
5.2 Maintenance
The VEX unit doors must be opened to allow servicing and cleaning.
Disconnect the power at the isolation switch before opening the doors.
