Proper lubrication
Oil will dissolve the grease inside of important components.
Do not put oil on your hubs, bottom bracket, pedals or
headset.
Basic Bicycle
Maintenance Guide
Your bicycle is made to carry tough loads on
rough roads. It will last a long time if you take
care of it often. This guide is here to help you
look after your bicycle.
Avoid mud and water
Mud and water spoil your
bearings and cause corrosion.
Keep your bike dry whenever
possible. If you must wash your
bike, use a rag. Never place your
bike in water.
Chain maintenance
When the chain is making
noise, clean it with a dry
rag.
Slowly drip machine oil on
the chain while rotating
the cranks (never use
grease).
Rotate the cranks 50 times
so the oil works into the
chain.
Wipe all oil o the outside
of the chain.

Maintain adjustment
If something feels loose or is making a noise, x it
immediately before it gets worse and more expensive to
x.
Maintain proper tire pressure

Keep your tires rm but not
too hard.
To add pressure to your tire,
push the pump on to the valve
stem and close the lever then
begin pumping.
To remove the pump, open
the lever rst.

Puncture repair
Remove the wheel from the
bicycle.
Remove the tire while being
careful not to damage the
tube.
Remove the object that
caused the puncture.
Add air to the tube, then hold
underwater to nd the hole.
Scratch the area around the
hole with sandpaper or a
hacksaw blade.
Add patching glue.
Add the patch and press it
rmly on to the tube and wait
ve minutes.
Reinstall the tire and tube on
to the wheel.
Install the wheel back on to
the bicycle.

Handlebar adjustment

Loosen the seatpost bolt.
Adjust the seat to the proper
height.
Retighten the bolt but don’t
overtighten it.
Loosen the bolt at the top of
the stem.
Adjust the handlebars up and
down.
Retighten the bolt but don’t
overtighten it.
Loosen the bolt at the front of
the stem.
Rotate the handlebars to the
preferred position.
Retighten the bolt but don’t
overtighten it.
