USING THE ETCHING TOOL
Use the foam sheet included to protect your workspace.
Hold the tool as shown in the photo. To turn it on, press the button and
hold it down. When you let go of the button, it will automatically turn off.
For your first time using the etching tool, we have included
a small square of plastic for you to test the tool. Try different
amounts of pressure. When you like how it looks,
you are ready to move on to the accessories.
You do not need to press too hard.
A light touch will create a cleaner etch.
Choose your accessory and decide what you would
like to etch into it. For design ideas refer to the
instructions and pictures on the packaging.

Use the stencils and letter guide,
or create your own designs.
The possibilities are endless!
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
Etching looks rough: Press lightly on the plastic as you etch.
Pressing down hard creates a rougher finish.
Blue dust on the etching tool: As you etch, the foam stencil may create dust.
Stop the tool and remove the dust with your hand or paper towel.
Etching tool tip fell out: Just push it back in place, and continue to use.
On/Off button came off: Just push it back in place.
We have also included an extra button just in case.
Tool isn’t working when I press down on the plastic: Be sure you are using fresh batteries.
Pushing too hard may slow the power of your etching tool.
Use light pressure to maximize battery life.
Read through all instructions before you begin
Whatever you etch
will be permanent.
PLAN YOUR DESIGNS HERE
USING THE STENCILS
Use the next page of your instructions to plan out your design.
However, do not put the stencils on the paper.
When you are ready to etch, peel stencils off the backer and then
position them on top of your accessory. Use the stencil to guide the outline of
your design. Then fill in the middle.
Carefully peel off the stencil when you are done.
Note – When using the tool, normal wear and tear of the stencils is expected.
In most cases, stencils are intended to be used one time.
You can also try using the stencil “middles” and etch
around them. Just place the inside of the stencil
on your accessory, and etch around the outside as shown.
ADDING COLOR
Once you have etched your designs, follow these
instructions to add colorful inserts or photos to
your backpack, clips, frames and room signs
Pro-tip: If adding a photo to your magnet frames
or backpack clips, look for images with darker
backgrounds for your etching to stand out more.
Save your Etch-It Workshop tool and any unused materials for future projects.
Ask your parent’s permission before etching any other materials.
Backpack Clips: Remove the backs from the backpack clips. (Use the
notch on the back and lift with a paperclip). Trace around the frame back
on the paper insert or photo you are using. Cut it out and place it inside
your frame. Snap the back in place.
Pro-tip: For a sophisticated look, try etching both sides of
your backpack clip, and don’t put paper in between; but be
careful what you choose to do, as you will see both sides!
Magnetic Frames: Bend the opposite corners to loosen and remove the
back. Use this as a guide to trace your image onto your paper or photo.
Insert the paper into the frame and replace the magnetic back.
Room Sign: Use the room sign printed backer as shown. Thread the string
through the holes in the backer and room sign. Secure it with a knot.
Now it’s ready to hang.
USING THE LETTER & NUMBER GUIDES
To add words or initials, use the alphabets printed on the back page
of the instructions. Plan out your design first to make sure the words
and letters are centered and they all fit.
Remove the backs from the backpack clips and frames. Place your
backpack clips, frames or room sign over the letters - so they show
through - and carefully trace along the outline with your etching tool.
The lines underneath the letters are there as a guide to help keep
your letters straight if desired.
Reminder: Do not stick the stencils to the paper.
Remove plastic coating
before etching the room sign.
