Enter a world of fun as you play a range of educational activities.
Laugh along with Mr. Pencil®and his pals as you explore letter
and number names. You can also follow step-by-step instructions
to write letters and numbers. Finally, join Mr. Pencil®to practice
everything from identifying letter sounds and spelling full words
to writing your own name!

counterclockwise.

INSTRUCTIONS
Battery Removal and Installation
1. Make sure the unit is turned Off.
2. Find the battery cover located on the back of the unit, use a
screwdriver to loosen the screw and then open the battery
cover.
3. Remove old batteries by pulling up on one end of each
battery.
4. Install 3 new AA (AM-3/LR6) batteries following the diagram
inside the battery box. (For best performance, alkaline
batteries or fully charged Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are
recommended.)
5. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw to secure.
WARNING:
Adult assembly required for battery installation.
Keep batteries out of reach of children.

IMPORTANT: BATTERY INFORMATION
• Insert batteries with the correct polarity (+ and -).
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable
batteries.
• Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as
recommended are to be used.
• Do not short-circuit the supply terminals.
• Remove batteries during long periods of non-use.
• Remove exhausted batteries from the toy.
• Dispose of batteries safely. Do not dispose of batteries in
fire.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
• Remove rechargeable batteries (if removable) from toy
before charging.
• Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult
supervision.
• Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries.
Low Battery Indicator
When the batteries run low, this icon
will appear on the screen and the unit will
power off. Remove the old batteries and
replace with a new set.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Occasionally, the LCD touch screen may
need to be recalibrated. If this happens,
go to Settings Mode to adjust it before
resuming play.

PRODUCT FEATURES
1. Off/Low/High Volume Selector
Slide the Off/Low/High/Volume
Selector to turn the toy on and to adjust
the volume.
2. Touch-Sensitive LCD Screen
Touch the LCD screen to play.
3. Mr. Pencil®Stylus
Use the stylus to tap and write on the
screen.
4. Activity Buttons
Press one of the six activity buttons to
select an activity.
An X will appear in each corner of the screen and you will hear
a voice say, “Tap it!”. Use the stylus to touch each X exactly.
Another X will appear after the previous one is touched
correctly. The screen will show OK if the screen has been
calibrated correctly. If an X isn’t touched correctly, you will
hear a voice say, “Oops, tap this again.”, and the calibration
will restart. You may have to tap an X many times before it is
properly calibrated.

5. Settings Button
Press this button to change the contrast
of the LCD screen, turn the background
music on or off and to calibrate the LCD
touch screen.
6. Repeat Button
Press this button to repeat an instruction
or question.
7. Letter Buttons
Press these buttons to hear letter names
and sounds.
8. Number Buttons
Press these buttons to hear number
names.
9. Automatic Shut Off
To save power, Mr. Pencil’s®Scribble, Write & Read™ will
shut down after about 1 minute without input. The unit can
be turned on again by pressing any button.

ACTIVITIES
1. Letter Writing
Use the stylus to choose uppercase or lowercase letters.
After making your choice, press a letter button to learn how
to write the uppercase or lowercase version of it. Follow the
dotted lines. They will show you exactly how to draw perfect
letters using the correct stroke order.
2. Numbers
Same as the activity above but with numbers. Correctly
tracing a number transforms it into objects that equal the
number’s value. Tap them to count.
3. Name Writing
Tap an empty name slot to enter a name. A name can hold
up to 12 characters. Tap the name to practice spelling it. Tap
the edit button to change an existing name.
4. Reading
Use the stylus to rub away sand to find letters. Find three
letters to spell a word. Then, drag the stylus across the letters
to sound out the word. Spell and sound out three words to
complete the game.
5. Spelling
Use the stylus to choose your level.
Level 1: Letterrific!
Tap the letters as they are announced.
Level 2: Complete the Word
Drag letters into the words to complete them. Then drag the
stylus across the letters to sound out the words.

Level 3: Slide and Spell
Slide letters into a word to spell it. Then drag the stylus
across the letters to sound out the word. When you think
you know what the word is, tap the star. Two pictures will
appear. Tap the one that shows the word you sounded out.
6. Drawing
Use the stylus to choose Free Draw or Tracing.
Free Draw
Get creative! Tap or drag anywhere on the screen to draw.
The following icons can help:
Eraser - Tap to turn the tip of your stylus into an eraser.
Only what you touch will be erased.
Pencil - Tap to draw. Tap again to change colors.
“X” - Tap this to erase your entire drawing.
Music Note - Tap this to add your drawing into the Mr.
Pencil®Song.
Tracing
Select a drawing. Then, connect the dots in any order to
complete it. Once completed, drawings will animate in
silly ways. To automatically complete a drawing, press the
check mark.

Environmental Phenomena
The unit may malfunction if subjected to radio-frequency
interference. It should revert to normal operation when the
interference stops. If not, it may become necessary to turn the
power Off and back On, or remove and reinstall the batteries.
In the unlikely event of an electrostatic discharge, the unit may
malfunction and lose memory, requiring the user to reset the
device by removing and reinstalling the batteries.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth.
2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away from any direct
heat sources.
3. Remove the batteries if the unit will not be in use for an
extended period of time.
4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose
the unit to moisture or water.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If for some reason the unit stops working or malfunctions, please
follow these steps:
1. Please turn the unit Off.
2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries.
3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the
batteries.
4. Turn the unit back On. The unit should now be ready to use
again.
5. If the unit is still not working properly, install a brand new
set of batteries.
