1. Generaluse


1.1 Navigating

TheCult'sLCDscreenisnotatouchscreen,howeverateachoperationitwilltellyouwhichtouch
keysyoucanuseintheright‐handpart.
Inthisway,theoperationoftheCultisveryeasy.Intheexampleabove,youseethatthereisa
conversationinprogresswiththedoorphone'Frontdoor',andthatthebutton'Surgery'waspressed.
Atthesametime,thereisasecondcallfromXavier.
Whenyoupress'2',thedoorwillopen.Xavier'scallcanberefusedbypressing.Youcan
adjustthevolumeoftheconversationbypressingand.Youcanimmediatelyconsult
theotherconnectedcamerasbyselectinginthisexample.Byselecting,youcanend
thedoorcallandimmediatelytakethecallwithXavier.
Andinthisway,ateachsteptheCultwillshowyouwhatpossibleactionsthereareatthatparticular
moment.
Alsointhesameway,whenyouarebusyonanoutsideline,andsomeonecallsatthedoorphone.
Youwillseethatthereare3possibleactionsthen:
1. bypressing'refuse',yourefusethedoorcall.
2. Bypressing'redirect',youwillseeaselectionmenusoase.g.totakeonthedoorcall
ore.g.toredirectthedoorcalltoanansweringmachine.
3. Bypressing'Endandchangeover',youterminatetheoutsidecall,andthedoorphone
isimmediatelycalledbackautomatically.




1.2 Missed calls and door calls
WhenallLEDsoftheCultflashcontinuously,ittellsyouthatyoumissedacall.Youcanimmediately
seehowmanymissedphonecallsanddoorcallsthereare.Youcanimmediatelycallbackthese
numbersorcontactsand/orsavethem.Youcanalsoplayimmediatelytheimagesofthedoorcall.

1.3 Activation of the relays

AttheCult'sright‐handtopcorner,yousee2relaysymbols(and).Bypressingthesefor
2seconds,theCultcanswitch2independentrelaysoftheoptionalswitchingmoduleFT8SW.With
these,youcanopene.g.agateand/ordoor.Oractivatealightingfixtureoralarm.Incaseyougate
controldeviceoralarmisequippedwithafeedbackfunctionwhenthegateisopenorwhenthe
alarmisoff,theserelaysiconswillflashcontinuously.Forexample,beforegoingtobedyoucan
alwayscheckwhetheryourgateissurelyclosedorthatthealarmisswitchedon.
Bytheway,throughthemenuitem'Controlactions',youcanswitchmorerelaysthanonlythese2.

1.4 Micro SD Card

OntheleftpartoftheCultbelowtheloudspeaker,thereisaslotprovidedforthemicroSDmemory
card.Withoutthiscard,youcanonlyusetheCultasatelephone.Hence,thecardmustalwaysbe
inserted.Onthecard,thereareanumberofdirectorieswhichmustalwaysbepresent,andtherefore
itcannotberemoved.Below,youwillbeinformedaboutwhatyoustoreinthedirectoriesandwhat
theyareusedfor.
ThebestwaytotakeoutthemicroSDcardispressingitgentlywithyournail.Thenthecardwillbe
ejectedfromitsholderautomatically.Becarefulandneveruseforce.Youinsertthecardbackintoits
holderwiththetextontop.

1.5 Reset

You can reset the Cult by switching off the current for a few seconds or by pressing on the small
rubber at the left of the micro SD card with a corner of the same SD card. Because underneath it, there
is a microswitch which will unterrupt the electric tension. Becareful to avoid damaging the glass! 






1.6 Cleaning the Cult

TheglassoftheCultcaneasilybecleanedwhenthebuttonsaretemporarilynotactive.Youdosoby
pressingduring3seconds.Next,youwillseeabar.Now,youhave1minuteforcleaningthe
Cult.Useasoftclothandalimitedquantityofwindowcleaningagent.
2. Contacts
2.1 Creating contacts using the Cult
IntheCult'sstartscreen,youcanconsultyourcontactsusing .Youcreateacontactby
enteringafulltelephonenumberfirst.Next,youselect'Add'using ,andyouenteraname.
Onceacontacthasbeencreated,youcansettheonesusedmostfrequentlyasspeeddial.Thesewill
beatthetopofthecontactlistnumberedfrom0uptoandincluding9.Bypressingthekeys0upto
andincluding9inthestartscreen,youcanimmediatelycallthespeeddialthatisprogrammedunder
thatkey.
Youwillnoticethatwhenyoustarttypinganameornumber,theCulthastheintelligencetosearch
foruniquestrings.Itdoessobothaccordingtonameandtonumber.Forthelatter,hedoesnotonly
dosoforthebeginningofthenumberbutalsointhenumberitself.ThestringstheCultfindsare
highlightedinyellow.Usingyoucanimmediatelyselectthecontactandcallhim/her.

2.2 Creating contacts manually

Whenyoumustloadseveralcontacts,youcandothisquickerbytypingthecontactinthefile
'Contacts'thatyouwillfindunder'Data'onthemicroSDcard.Youenter:
name<tab>phonenumber<tab>speeddialnumber.Thespeeddialnumbersarefrom0uptoand
including9andcanbeusedonlyonce.Hence,themaximumnumberofcontactsis10.




Forinstance,intheexampleabove,theCultwillputJohnunderspeeddial0andManuandJerry
under1and2respectively.Itwillputtheothersinalphabeticalorder.
2.3 Importing from Outlook

YoucanalsoimportcontactsfromOutlook.

InOutlook,goto'Contacts',andselectatthetopofthe'File'menu'Importandexport'.Thenyou
select'Exporttoafile'and'Valuesseparatedbytabs'(Windows).Next,youlookforthecontact
directoryyouwanttoexport,andyouselect'Next'.Asafilename,youchoose'Contacts',andyou
putthefileinthedatadirectoryofyourmicroSDcard.Overwritetheexisting'Contacts'file.Now,
clickon'Assignmodifiedfields'andthenatthebottom'Deleteassignments'.Fromtheleftbox,now
youdragthefield'Names'firstandthenthefield'Phonenumber'thatyouwanttoexport.Thiscan
beonly1fieldofeach,hence2fieldsintotal.Inmostcases,thisis'Name'ande.g.'Phoneatwork'.
Next,youselect'OK'and'Finish'.

Now,openthefile'Contacts'andremovethefirstline.Enterthemenu'Edit'andthenselect
'Replace'.Inthefield'Find',youtype''andselect'Replaceall'.Repeatthisalsofor,sothat''and,
areremovedfromthefile.Youcanalsomodifythebeginningofthephonenumbers(e.g.replace+32
by0).Ifrequired,youcancreatealreadyherethetenspeeddials(seepoint2.2above).Next,select
'File'and'Saveas'andselectatthebottomatcoding'Unicode'.Save,andyouwillnotethattheCult
displaysallcontactsneatly.
3. Menu

Underthemenu,youfindnearlyallfunctionsoftheCult.Usingandyoucanmoveto
anotherheading,butyoucanalsogodirectlytoe.g.'photoalbum'byselecting'4'.
3.1Visitors

TheCultsavesalldoorcallsinthisdirectory.Whenplaying,youwillseeatthetopwhichFasttel
doorphoneandevenwhichofitspushbuttonswasused.Thisissetbyyourinstallerduringthe
installationoftheappliance.Youwillfindthefilmsinmpeg4formatonthemicroSDcardinthe
directory'Visitors'.

3.1 Cameras
Hereyouwillseethelistofthecamerasinstalledandassignedbyyourinstaller.TheCultcandisplay




bothanalogueandIPcameras.Youcanselectacamerabyusingthearrowsorbydirectlyselecting
thenumberinfrontofthename.Youcanalsooptforslideshowandsettheinterval.
Whenyouhavechosenacamera,youcanselectanextorpreviouscamerasusingthearrows.When
youselect'Record',theredrecordingsymbolappearsatthetop.Fromthatmoment,theimagesare
recordedontheSDcardindirectory'Visitors'.

3.3 Control actions

ThroughyourCultyoucancarryoutallkindsofcontrolactionssuchasopeningofgatesordoors,
operationoflightsandspheres,activationofalarmorgardensprinkling,etc.
Underpoint1.3,youcanreadthatattheright‐handtopcorneroftheCult2hotkeysareprovided
withwhichyoucanstraightawaycarryout2controlactions(and).These2iconsgivea
feedbackmessagewhentheyflashcontinuously.
YoucanactivatetheotherrelaysbyselectingMenuControlactions.
Consultyouinstallerforconnectingtherelayscorrectly,andforgivingthemalogicalname.

3.4 Music

TheCultisalsoatrueMP3player.InsertyourMP3sinthedirectory'Music'ontheSDcard.Use
subdirectoriesfororganizingyourmusic.Whenatrackisplaying,youcanadjustthevolumeusing
thearrows,andchooseapreviousornexttrackwith*and#respectively.Whenyouselect
'Previous',youcanscrollthetrackswiththearrowswhilethecurrenttrackkeepsonplaying.
WhensomeoneringsatyourFastteldoorphone,yourinstallercanchooseasaringtoneanyMP3and
thisforeachindividualcallbutton!Hence,ifrequired,youcanplayyourownspokenmessagewhen
someoneringsatthedoor,sothatyouknowimmediatelywhichdoorphoneandwhichpushbutton
wasused.

3.5 Photo album
YoucanturnyourCultintoanicepictureframebysavingyourphotosontheSDcardinthedirectory
'Pictures'.Inthisdirectory,youcancreatesubdirectoriessoastoorganizethepicturesaccordingto
dateorevent.TheCultwillalsodisplaythesesubdirectories.



ThefreeprogrammeIrfanviewissuppliedwiththesoftwareoftheCult.Withit,youcanconvertall
yourpicturesinonegototheformatthatisidealfortheCult,thatisJPG320*240pixels.Thisformat
isrequiredforasmoothdisplay.
OpenIrfanviewandselectattheleftatthetop'File''Batchconversion'.



Inthescreenattheright,youseeatthetop'Lookin'.
Selectherethepicturesyouwishtoconvert.Useforthisthebuttons'Add'and/or'Add
all'.Thepictureswillalwaysbelistedinthescreenatthebottomright.
Intheleftpart:
i. Select'Batchconversion'(or'Batchconversion‐Renameresultfiles'incaseyou
wanttorenamethepicturesorgivethemamorelogicalname).
ii. Selectanoutputformat(asJPG).
iii. Tick'Useadvancedoptions',andclickonthebutton'Advanced'.Completeas
thescreenbelow,andclickon'OK'.





Chooseanoutputdirectory.Thiscanbestraightawaythedirectory'Pictures'onthe
microSDcardoftheCult.
Clickon'StartBatch'andtheconversionbegins.

3.6 Film

Youputfilmsinthedirectory'Movies'ontheSDcard.Hereyoucanalsocreatesubdirectories.Inthe
directory'SoftwareonthemicroSDcardoftheCult,thefreeprogrammeWinffissupplied.Withit,



youcaneasilyconvertallyourfilmsintotheformatthatisidealfortheCult,thatisMPG320x240
pixels.Thisformatisrequiredforasmoothdisplay.InstallWinffbycarryingoutWinff‐1.1.setup.
Afterhavingstartedop,youselectatthetop'FileImportpreview'.YouaddCult500tothesame
directoryWinff.
Usingthebutton'Add',youcanaddseveralfilmssimultaneously.
At'Convertto',youchooseFasttel,andat'Presetting',youchooseFastteldevice(320x240500k).For
cartoonfilms,youpreferablychoosetheother200ksetting.Attheitem'Targetdirectory',youselect
thedirectory'Movie'(andanysubdirectoryinit)thatyouwillfindonthemicroSDcard.

37. Contacts

Hereyoucanmodifyyourcontacts.Hereyoucanalsocreatethe10speeddialsavailable.Aspeed
dialcanonlybecreatedbyupgradinganalreadyexistingcontacttoaspeeddial.Pleasealsoreferto
sub2'Contacts'inthismanual.

3.8 Phone calls

TheCultsavesyourphonecallsinthisdirectory.You'llfindthecallsinMP3formatinthedirectory
'Calls'onthemicroSDcard.Bydefault,thisrecordingfunctionisnotactivated.Youcanactivateitby
selecting8.Options1.Audio7.Savecall2.Yes.

3.9 Options

3.9.1 Audio

1. Volume:setheretheloudspeakervolumeofyourCultforyourcallsandforplayingmusic.
2. Ringtones:setheretheringtoneforyourusualincomingphonecalls.Youcanchoosefroma
numberofstandardringtonesorfromyourpersonalMP3fileswhichyoucanaddinthe
directory'Music'ontheSDcard.YourinstallercanassignadifferentMP3foreachoutpost
andforeachpushbuttonforyourdoorcalls.
3. Alarm/Ringtonevolume:setthevolumeofthealarmandringtoneselectedabove.
4. Alarm:setheretheringtoneforthealarm.YoucanalsochoosefromMP3filesinthe
directory'Music'.
5. Keysound:everytimeyoutouchtheCult,itwillplaythesoundchosenhere.
6. Keyvolume:setthevolumeofthekeysoundchosenabove.
7. Doorbell:whensomeoneringsatyourFastteldoorphone,yourinstallercandeterminehow
manytimesthephone,andhencealsotheCult,willringbeforethecallsstops.However,
withthisfunctionyoucanchoosethattheCultwillonlyringthreetimes(select4)andthen




stopsplayingtheringtonethroughitsloudspeaker.Yet,theCultstaysonline.Butitonly
doesnotplaytheringtoneanymore.Thisfunctionisparticularlyusefulwhenyouopenyour
dooroftenwithoutansweringthecall.
8. Savephonecall:selecthereifyouwantordonotwanttorecordyournormalphonecallson
theSDcard.Thepersonyouarespeakingtowillnotnoticeanything.Inanycasedoorcalls
willalwaysberecorded.

3.9.2 Date and time
Setherethedateandtime.Usethearrowsandconfirmeverytime.

3.9.3 Alarm

Hereyoucandeterminewhetherthewake‐upfunction(alarm)isactiveornotandatwhattimeof
theday.Forsettingthevolumeandtheringtoneofthealarm,referto3.9.1Audio,sub3and4.
Whenyouhavesetthealarm,inthemainscreenbelowthecurrenttimeyouwillseeatwhattime
thealarmsoundsindicatedinred.

So,heretheCultwillsoundat7.45a.m.WhentheCultsounds,thefollowingscreenisdisplayed:

Thealarmwillsoundfor60minutes.Whenyoupress'Stop',youcancelthealarmuntilthenextday.
Yousetthevolumeusingtheupanddownarrows.PressinganyotherkeywillturntheCultinto
'Snooze'conditionduring5minutes.You'llseeimmediatelythat5minutesaredeductedfromthe60
minutes.Youcankeepondoingsountilthe60minuteshavebeenconsumed.
WhenyouareusingtheCultatthemomentthealarmshouldstart,thealarmwillnotsoundsince
theCultassumesthatyouareawake.Atanincomingphonecall,thealarmwillalsobestopped.


3.9.4 Screen saver

1. Waitingtime:setherethewaitingtimebeforetheCultchangesovertoscreensaverafter
youhavedonethelastaction.TheCultwillnotchangeovertoscreensaverwhenitisplaying
music,picturesorfilms.Neitherwhenitisplayingaslideshowofthecameras.Thisonly
appliestotheshutdowntime.
2. Options:determineherewhattheCultwillshowasascreensaver.Whenchoosing1for
instance,theCultwillimmediatelyenterinsleepingcondition.

3.9.5 Screen setting
Adjustherethebrightnessofthescreen.
3.9.6 Language

3.9.7 Factory settings
DeleteallsettingsasifyourCultiscomingstraightoutofthebox.Contactswillnotbedeleted.

3.9.8 Shutdown time

HereyousetthetimetheCultwillswitchoffitsscreenandLEDs.Bymerelytippinganykey,theCult
wakesupagain.

3.9.9 Version information and updates 

HereyouseewhichsoftwareversiontheCultisusing.E.g.,whenyourCulthaslessmenusthanas
describedinthismanual,youmightrequireanupdate.
Therefore,surfregularlytowww.fasttel.com/cult,whereyouwillfindthelatestsoftware.Updating

isdonebysimplydownloadingthesoftwareintherootdirectoryoftheSDcard.WheneverWindows
askstooverwritecertainfiles,alwaysconfirmwith'Yes'.TheCultwillnotoverwriteuserdata,
contactsorelse.Butcertainlytheoperatingsoftwareforwhichpurposetheupdate.WhentheSD
cardisinsertedagain,theCultwillimmediatelyandautomaticallyupdateitselfwiththenewer
version.

4. Options

TheCult'sbasicmodule(FTCULT)isdesignedforwall‐mounting.
BymeansoftheoptionalkitFTCULTF,youcaninstalltheCultinthewallprovidedyouhaveaflush‐
mountingboxandaterminalsystem.Theassemblyisneatlyfinishedwithatriminblackpiano
varnish.
TheCultisahands‐freemodulebutwiththeFTCULTHyoucanaddabeautifulreceiveringlass
design.Whenduringahands‐freeconversationyoutakeupthereceiver,theCultwillautomatically
switchovertothereceiver.
TheFTCULTDESKisawoodenholdermadeofwengéwood.WithityoucanputtheCultonachestor
desk.Thisholderisadjustablesothatyoucansetthecorrectangleforanidealviewofthedisplay.
