To use he Medical Book Sys em, you
need he Medical Book Sys em pla -
form and one or more Medical Book
Sys em book cards. Simply ins all one
or more book cards in he pla form and
hen selec he book ha you wan o
read. I ’s easy o build a comprehen-
sive, por able medical library.
This user’s guide describes how o use
he Medical Book Sys em pla form
only. To learn how o use an ins alled

The Medical Book Sys em pla form
can use Franklin BOOKMAN® book
cards as well as Medical Book Sys-
em book cards. However, Franklin
BOOKMAN pla forms canno use
Medical Book Sys em book cards.

This pla form is powered by wo AAA,
1.5-vol ba eries. Here is how o in-
s all or replace hem.
CAUTION When he ba eries lose all
heir power or are removed from he
pla form, any informa ion in an in-
s alled book card ha was en ered by a
user may be erased.
1. Turn the platform over.
2. Remove the battery cover by
compressing its tab with your
finger and then lifting.

3. Install the batteries as shown in
the diagram in the battery com-
partment.
4. Replace the battery cover.

CAUTION Never ins all or remove a
book card when he pla form is urned
on. If you do, informa ion en ered in
any ins alled book cards may be erased.
1. Turn the platform off.
2. Turn the platform over.
3. Align the book card tabs with the
notches in a card slot.
4. Press the book card until it
snaps into the slot.

enables you o look up a word from one
ins alled book card in he o her ins alled
book card.
Some book cards are no be able o
ransfer words o or from o her book
cards. To learn if a book card can send
or receive words, read i s user’s guide.

platform.

3. Highlight a word in that book
card.
You can highligh words in menus,
lis s, en ries, and o her ex . To learn

The Medical Book Sys em pla form is
equipped wi h a 3.5-mm serial por ha
can be used o exchange informa ion wi h
a personal compu er or o her ex ernal de-
vice.
To use he serial por , you need (1) a
Franklin serial cable wi h he proper
connec ors, including a 3.5 mm jack,
(2) a compu er or o her device ha can
exchange informa ion, and (3) a book
card ha suppor s he use of he serial
por ins alled in he pla form.
No all book cards are designed o use he
serial por . To learn if a book card can use
he serial por , read i s user’s guide.
CAUTION Franklin’s serial cable is spe-
cifically designed for he Medical Book
Sys em pla form. Using a serial cable o her
han one ob ained from Franklin Elec ronic
Publishers may damage he pla form.

To Protect the Platform

please observe hese precau ions:
• Do no drop, or pu excessive pressure

• Do no expose he Medical Book Sys-

• If possible, keep book cards ins alled
in he card slo s of he pla form o
preven dus buildup in he slo s. The
bes way o remove dus from he card
slo s is o use a camera lens blower or
a small, dry brush.
To Clean the creen or Platform
If he screen or o her par s of he Medi-
cal Book Sys em pla form become
smudged or dus y, apply eyeglass
cleaning fluid or isopropyl alcohol o a
small, clean clo h and gen ly wipe hem
clean. Never apply harsh or abrasive
cleaners o he screen or pla form.
