Installation in Windows8, 7, Vista or XP
Best performance is achieved with the FRITZ!WLANUSB Stick at a USB2.0 port on a
computer with the latest Windows Service Packs and updates installed.
1. Start your computer.
2. Insert the FRITZ!WLANUSB Stick into a USB port on the computer.
Windows will detect the device automatically.
In the “AutoPlay” window, click “AVM FRITZ!WLANUSB Stickv2 Installation”.
This window does not always appear. In some versions of Windows the device
driver installation is performed automatically without requiring any user interven-
tion.
Confirm any questions asked during installation by clicking “Yes”, “Install” or
“Continue”, for instance, the security prompt by Windows’ user account control.
If you are prompted to do so, insert the FRITZ!WLANUSB Stick CD and follow the
instructions on the screen.
Installation of the device driver is complete when the message “Installation of the
wireless LAN hardware has been completed successfully” appears.
Then follow the directions in the “Establishing a WLAN Connection Manually” or the
“Establishing a WLAN Connection: WPS” section.
Establishing a WLAN Connection Manually
To establish a WLAN connection manually, the FRITZ!WLANUSB Stick must be installed
on your computer. Follow the instructions on page6.
Once the FRITZ!WLANUSB Stick has been installed on your computer, the correspond-
ing FRITZ!WLAN software starts and automatically searches for wireless devices (WLAN
access points) in your vicinity.
1. Make sure that the wireless device to which you would like to connect is switched
on.
2. In the list of available wireless devices, double-click on the device you would like
to connect to.
3. Enter the network key of this wireless device.
Devices from the FRITZ!Box product line have the network key printed on the base
of the device housing.
The WLAN connection is established.
Once the connection is established, the WLAN icon in the notification area
of the Windows taskbar turns green.
The FRITZ!WLAN software now shows you comprehensive information on
the current wireless connection.
For information about using FRITZ!WLAN, see the “Controlling the Wireless Network
with FRITZ!WLAN” section.
