You should find everything you need here to get your child riding as soon as possible.
This manual is intended as a “Quick Start” guide. While this guide will ensure that your
Frog bike is set up safely and successfully,we do have several other helpful resources
available online:

your bike received before it shipped out to you. If it looks like your new Frog bike has
been opened, that’s because it has! Our experienced bike technicians work on all Frog
bikes when they arrive to our shop. This work includes some basic assembly and
maintenance as well as a thorough inspection.

There are just a few things you will need to do to get your Frog ready to ride.
Follow these
5 simple steps and in a few minutes your child will be ready to pedal!
To begin, carefully remove all plastic wrapping, zip ties and cardboard wraps. We recommend saving
all packing material (for the time being) in case this bike is not the proper fit for your child.
STEP 1 : Install Handlebar
Remove the handlebar clamp plate by unscrewing the 4bolts (using the 4mm Allen Wrench)
at the front of the stem.
Center the handlebar with even distance to each end on either side. The handlebar should be
oriented so that the brake lever on the rider’s right controls the rear brake.
Rotate the handlebar so that the angle of the brake levers are comfortable for your child. We
recommend angling the brake levers about 15-30 degrees down from the horizontal, but this can
always be adjusted.
Reinstall the handlebar clamp plate with the 4bolts. When tight, there should still be a gap
between the handlebar clamp plate and the stem base. Try to make this gap roughly the same on
all 4sides (top and bottom; left and right).
NOW LET’S GET STARTED!
When reinstalling the handlebar clamp plate, alternate tightening the bolts in an “X”
pattern for equal spacing around the clamp.

STEP 2 : Install Front Wheel
Disconnect the front brake arms (“calipers”). First, slide the black rubber housing to the side so
that it is out of the way. With your fingers squeeze the left and right brake calipers together, and
then slide the cable “noodle” out of the cut-out cradle. Once complete, the brake pads should
be easily sitting open with no pressure.
Remove the hard plastic fork protector from the dropouts of the front fork.
Ensure the tire is properly oriented in the forward direction before installing the front wheel.
Look for the “ ” on the tire wall indicating the forward rotational direction.
Place the front wheel axle into the dropouts of the front fork. Keep the safety washers on the
outside of each fork dropout and insert the safety tabs into the small holes on the fork.
Tighten the axle bolts (using the 4mm Allen Wrench). Be sure the bolts are secure but not
overtightened, as overtightening could damage the fork. A firm hand tightening is perfect.
Reconnect the front brake calipers. With your fingers squeeze the left and right brake calipers
together above the wheel until the brake pads are touching the wheel rims. Then slide the cable
“noodle” back into cut-out cradle so that it seats securely. Slide the black rubber housing back
into place so that it covers the end of the “noodle.”
STEP 3 : Install Pedals
Frog pedals are stamped with Right (R) and Left (L) on the end cap of each spindle. Installing the
correct pedal into the correct side is very important as the pedals are each threaded oppositely
(Left pedals are reverse threaded).
Insert the Right pedal into the rider’s Right crank arm (on the drivetrain side). Turn the pedal
CLOCKWISE until it is firmly secured.
Insert the Left pedal into the rider’s Left crank arm. Turn the pedal COUNTERCLOCKWISE
until it is firmly secured.
Using a 15mm Spanner or Adjustable Wrench can be very helpful in installing
your pedals. Please see our video online for a demonstration of this installation method.

STEP 4 : Install & Adjust Saddle
If your seat post is not installed in the seat tube, you’ll first need to install it. Loosen the seat
post collar clamp using the 5mm Allen Wrench until the seat post easily slides into the frame.
Ensure that the seat is facing the correct forward direction.
Raise the saddle so that it is approximately the same height as your child’s current inseam. If your
child’s inseam is shorter than the lowest seat height, begin with the seat as low as possible.
Tighten the seat post into place with the seat post collar clamp using the 5mm Allen
Wrench. A firm hand tightening is perfect.
The seat post has a MIN INSERT line marked on it. This line marks the farthest the seat post
can be extended. Ensure that the seat post is not extended beyond this line.
For the proper saddle height, your child should just be able to put the ball of their foot on the
ground when seated on the saddle. As your child becomes more proficient, the saddle height can
be raised until they are standing on tip toes.
The saddle can also slide forward and backward along the seat rails to find the most comfortable
riding position. To make this adjustment, loosen the bolt underneath the saddle with the 5mm
Allen Wrench. If your child is reaching too far for the handlebar, slide the saddle forward.
STEP 5 : Install Reflectors & Bell
The front reflector is the clear reflector. Remove the screw holding the mounting collar closed.
Fit the mounting collar around the handlebar, positioning this reflector near the center of the
handlebar. Clamp the mounting collar into place by tightening the screw. To adjust the
orientation of the reflector, loosen the 2nd screw that allows you to rotate the reflector forward.
Once the reflector is facing directly forward, tighten the 2nd screw.
The rear reflector is the red reflector. Clip the reflector’s mounting bracket to the rails on the
underside of the saddle. It clips on toward the rear of the saddle and should be facing backwards.
To install the black bike bell, remove the screw holding the mounting collar closed. Fit the
mounting collar around the handlebar, positioning the bell near the brake lever so the rider’s
thumb can easily reach the bell. Clamp the mounting collar into place by tightening the screw.
QUICK START ASSEMBLY
When tightening the seat into place, tighten the seat post collar clamp only partially so
that the saddle height remains in place. Adjust the direction of the seat from side to side
to ensure it is facing directly forward before tightening all the way.

Please perform the following Safety Check before riding.
BRAKE CHECK: Raise the front wheel, spin it, and then squeeze the left brake lever to stop
the front wheel. Raise the rear wheel, spin it, and repeat the same process with the right brake
lever for the rear wheel. Ensure that each brake stops each wheel firmly.
SADDLE HEIGHT: Ensure your child is comfortable starting and stopping with the current
saddle height. Check that the seat post collar clamp is firmly secured to hold the saddle height.
Ensure that the seat post is not extended beyond its MIN INSERT line.
SECURELY FASTENED WHEELS: Ensure that each wheel is securely fastened by checking
that the axle bolts are securely tightened.
PEDALS: Ensure that both pedals are securely threaded into the crank arms.
REFLECTORS: Ensure that front and rear reflectors are installed and visible.
TIRES: Ensure that tires are inflated within each tire’s recommended pressure range (as printed
on the sidewall of the tire).

If your child is regularly riding in wet conditions, the Frog Mudguards can be a great addition to
your child's bike. They protect both the rider and the bike from being sprayed with muddy water
while out riding. Installing the mudguards on your Frog is optional. We find that most of our U.S.
customers choose not to install the mudguards, preferring a less cluttered aesthetic and lighter
overall bike to the benefit the mudguards provide.

We have a few tips to ensure that your child has the best riding experience possible.
PROTECT THE HEAD! Be sure your child has a correctly fitted helmet. We have a wide variety
available and would be happy to help you with any sizing or fit questions.
PROTECT THE HANDS! We feel that gloves are the next most important accessory, especially
when first learning to pedal. Skinning your hands can be very painful! We also have a wide
variety of gloves available.
Before letting your child ride down any hills, be sure they can stop consistently on flat ground
using the hand brakes.
Encourage your child to engage the rear brake (right brake lever) first. Teach them “Right is
right” to help them remember which brake to use. If your child does not know right vs. left, you
might want to place a sticker or stripe of colored tape on the right side of the handlebar.
Ensure that your child knows that riding on wet surfaces can be slippery and that their bike may
take longer to stop.
It is best that your child wears sturdy, closed toe shoes while riding.
Keep an eye on your child’s saddle height and adjust it as they grow.
Check tire pressure often.
SETTING YOUR CHILD UP FOR SUCCESS
All Frog bikes have undergone pre-delivery inspections by both Frog and Ready, Set, Pedal. However,
just like cars, bicycles do require regular maintenance.
•Keep your bike as clean as possible. We recommend washing it immediately when dirty. Water
and rags/sponges are adequate (soapy water if needed – we recommend a mild, grease-cutting
soap like Simple Green). Be sure to dry your bike after washing.
•All moving parts on your bike will need lubricating from time to time, although how often
depends on use. The more your child uses their bike and the worse the conditions are, the more
care it will need. The manufacturer recommends to oil the chain and gears every +weeks and to
lightly oil each after washing your bike or riding in rain.
•Tires naturally lose pressure with time and use, so it is good practice to check them regularly.
Recommended tire pressures are printed on the sidewall of each tire.
•It is good practice to have general service and “tune ups” performed by your local bike shop. The
need for this can vary based on the bike’s use, but the manufacturer recommends service every
6-12 months.

Frog offers a 2year standard warranty on all frames, non-suspension forks, parts and paintwork. This
warranty excludes tires and inner tubes. Suspension forks come with a standard 12 month warranty.
The Frog Warranty only applies to the original owner and is non-transferable.
Frog’s Warranty Plus
Frog offers a FREE extended warranty of 5years on frames and forks (excluding suspension forks)
if you complete the Warranty Plus application form within 28 days of purchase.The Warranty Plus

found stamped into the frame below the bottom bracket.
