PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
When he ba ery is connec ed o he ool, opera ion is con rolled by a ac ua or o he mo or. The GB108A incorpora es an elec ronic
ac ua or assembly o send a signal o he mo or. When he ac ua or assembly is depressed, he gear on he mo or spins he gear on
he gear box assy re rac ing he nose assembly colle . This ac ion causes he jaws o clamp on he fas ener pin ail and pull he shee s
oge her. Fur her force breaks he pin ail off. When he ac ua or is released, he ool moves back o i s s ar ing posi ion. The spen
pin ail is released and drops ou he back of he ool.

HOW TO SET-UP THE GB108A

● Be sure there is adequate clearance for tool and operator's hands before proceeding. Keep fingers clear of
any moving parts. Keep fingers clear from fasteners and installed materials. Severe personal injury may result.
● Ensure that there are no electrical cables, gas pipes, etc., hich can cause a hazard if damaged by the
tool.
WARNING: Do no pull fas ener in he air. Personal injury from fas ener ejec ing may occur.
WARNING: Do no use as a hammer. If improperly used or damaged, liquid can escape from he ba ery causing skin
irri a ions or burns. Wash wi h wa er or seek medical a en ion immedia ely if liquid ge s in o eyes or
burns occur.
WARNING: Do no use in explosive a mosphere.
WARNING: Charge he ba eries only in chargers recommended by he manufac urer. Risk of fire or explosion if ba eries
used on non manufac urer chargers.

WARNING: Ensure he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) / cover cap (VP1321) are properly connec ed and used correc ly.
WARNING: Avoid inadver en s ar ing of he ins alla ion ool.
WARNING: Having your finger on he ac ua or assy (VP1316) while carrying he ins alla ion ool can lead o acciden s.
CAUTION: Check ha he hanger clip (VP1322) is securely fi ed before using he ool. Ensure he clip is no s re ched oo
far apar and loses i s ension.
CAUTION: Do no use beyond he design in en .
CAUTION: Remove he ba ery (VP1086) before making adjus men s o he ool, changing accessories, or pu ing ool away.
This precau ionary measure preven s any unin en ional s ar ing of he ins alla ion ool.
Universal Quick Charger (VP1087):
Connec he universal quick charger (VP1087) in o a wall socke using he cable supplied.
Push he ba ery (VP1086) carefully and wi hou force in o he holder. Remove he ba ery (VP1086) he same way.
The universal quick charger (VP1087) charges he ba ery (VP1086) in 30 minu es; he ba ery is 90% charged af er
approxima ely 22 minu es. Observe he corresponding indica ors on he universal quick charger (VP1087).
The op imum charging and discharging empera ure for he Li-Ion cells is 77°F (25°C). No comple e
charging or discharging capaci y can be reached above and below 77°F (25°C).
Use only he connec ing cable supplied (wi h IEC power connec or).
Use universal quick charger (VP1087) o charge only he ba eries (or new ones) supplied wi h ool.
7. Charge only in a empera ure range be ween 32°F - 104°F (0°C - 40°C).
Charging he Ba ery (VP1086):
No e: The ba ery (VP1086) is par ially charged on delivery.
In order o ensure he full performance of he ba ery (VP1086), charge he ba ery (VP1086) comple ely
before he firs use. Observe he no es on he s a e of charge on he universal quick charger (VP1087).
2. The Li-Ion ba ery (VP1086) can be recharged a any ime wi hou shor ening i s service life.
In errup ions of he charging cycle does no damage he ba ery (VP1086).
The charger (VP1087) is equipped wi h a empera ure moni oring device ha permi s charging only in
he empera ure range be ween 32°F - 104°F (0°C - 40°C).

Ba ery (VP1086):
Always make removing he ba ery (VP1086) from he ins alla ion ool your first s ep before making adjus men s, changing par s or
overhauling and ins alling he ba ery (VP1086) in o he ool your last s ep before using o preven acciden al s ar ing of he ool.
2. The ba ery (VP1086) has a la ch on he fron side. To inser or remove he ba ery, press he la ch downwards and push he
ba ery (VP1086) in o he ins alla ion ool foo or pull i ou .
3. Use he ba ery (VP1086) in he ins alla ion ool only in he specified empera ure range 23°F - 113°F (-5°C - 45°C).
4. Charge he ba ery (VP1086) only in a empera ure range be ween 32°F - 104°F (0°C - 40°C).
5. Use only an approved charger.
6. Never shor -circui he ba ery (VP1086).
7. If he ba ery (VP1086) shows signs of visible damage, no no use i any longer and dispose of i in a proper manner.
8. Keep he ba ery (VP1086) away from mois ure and liquids.
Preparing he Ins alla ion Tool (GB108A):
A ach he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) by urning o he righ .
No e: Tool will no func ion wi hou mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) or cover cap (VP1321)
a ached. (See safe y swi ch below).
2. Apply blue Loc i e® #242 o hreads of pis on on ool and on male hreads of colle adap er (110749).
Thread colle adap er (110749) on o pis on of ool and igh en. Thread adap er anvil (110750)
o ool and igh en using wrench fla s provided.
Selec proper nose assembly (Con ac Gage Bil for more informa ion). Screw nose assembly
on o adap er (108751). Follow ins ruc ions on nose assy da a shee .
Push he ba ery (VP1086) in o he foo of he ins alla ion ool from he fron and ensure i is properly engaged.
Safe y Swi ch:
This ins alla ion ool is equipped wi h a safe y swi ch in he rear of ins alla ion ool and hus conforms o he Machinery Direc ive.
This preven s he ins alla ion ool from being used wi hou he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) or cover cap (VP1321).
2. Never bypass he safe y swi ch.
3. Never opera e he ool wi hou he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) or cover cap (VP1321).
If you have o work in confined spaces, he cover cap (VP1321) can be used ins ead of he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002).
When working wi h he cover cap (VP1321), hold he ins alla ion ool wi h he anvil inser facing downwards af er each se fas ener
o ensure ha he sheared mandrel drops ou of he ool o he fron .
Do no use cover cap (VP1321) wi h non-self releasing nose assemblies. This would resul in damage o he ins alla ion ool.

HOW TO SET-UP THE GB108A Con .
Addi ional Ac ua or Assy (VP1316) func ions:
No e: The ins alla ion ool has wo addi ional func ions ha are con rolled wi h he ac ua or assy (VP1316).
Service posi ion: Press he ac ua or assy (VP1316) for five seconds (un il he whi e LED on he ool s ar s o flash (1 /sec) and
release again. The ins alla ion ool remains in he rearmos posi ion. The anvil inser can now be easily changed or he clamping
jaws serviced. Press he ac ua or assy (VP1316) briefly and he ool moves o i s s ar ing posi ion again.
Au o and Manual mode:
a. In Manual mode, hold he ac ua or assy (VP1316) depressing during se ing of he fas ener un il he mandrel is
sheared off.
b. In Au o mode, you only have o press he ac ua or assy (VP1316) briefly and he ins alla ion ool con rols he
fas ening process au oma ically.
3. To change from one mode o he o her, hold he ac ua or assy (VP1316) pressed for en seconds (un il he whi e LED on he
ool s ar s o flash (2 sec.) and release again. Press he ac ua or assy (VP1316) briefly and he ool moves o i s s ar ing
posi ion again.
A aching he Bel Clip (VP1322):
No e: Always ensure bel clip (VP1322) is secure o he ins alla ion ool before using.
A ach he bel clip (VP1322) o he foo of he ins alla ion ool using he screw. A corresponding hread and slo s are recessed in he
foo of he housing on bo h sides of he ins alla ion ool.
Check a regular in ervals ha he bel clip (VP1322) is s ill securely a ached. O herwise, re igh en he screw.
Ba ery (VP1086) S orage:
Pro ec he ba ery (VP1086) from mois ure and liquids. Do no leave in car e.g. in he summer.
S ore he ba ery (VP1086) only in op imum empera ure range be ween -22°F (-30°C) and 77°F (25°C). The ba eries can be s ored as
follows wi hou recharging:
S orage period be ween -22°F (-30°C) and 77°F (25°C) = 1.5 years
S orage period be ween -22°F (-30°C) and 113°F (45°C) = 3 mon hs
S orage period be ween -22°F (-30°C) and 140°F (60°C) = 1 mon h

Inser he mandrel of he fas ener in o he nose assembly.
No e: Tool will no func ion wi hou he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) or cover cap (VP1321) a ached.
Now inser he fas ener in o he par s o be fas ened. For a good fas ening resul , ensure ha he par s and head of he fas ener are
res ing on one ano her wi hou a gap.
Press he ac ua or assy (VP1316) un il he mandrel is sheared.
Hold he ins alla ion ool so ha he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) is facing downwards o ensure ha he sheared mandrel
drops in o he mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002).
When working wi h he cover cap (VP1321), hold he ins alla ion ool wi h he nose assy facing downwards af er each se fas ener o
ensure ha he sheared mandrel drops ou of he ins alla ion ool o he fron . DO NOT use cover cap (VP1321) wi h non self
releasing nose assemblies. This would resul in damage o he ool.

*Make sure here is no debris inside he nose assembly. You should be able o see hrough from he fron of he nose assembly o
he back of he ool. Remove any obs ruc ion or sealan before use.
*Make sure all pieces of he adap er and nose assy are igh ened properly while using Vibra- i e® o preven any piece from
un hreading. Failure o do so can cause permanen damage o he ool and will VOID your warran y.
CLEANING AND LUBRICATING THE CLAMPING JAWS

Ba eries/ rechargeable ba eries are collec ed and recycled or disposed of in an eco-friendly manner.

LUBRICATING

CLEANING

solven s. DO NOT le jaws soak. Dry jaws immedia ely.

Providing all main enance condi ions have been me , follow his sys ema ic approach o diagnosis.
1. INSTALLTION TOOL STOPS AND A RED LED COMES ON.
a.) Fas eners are used beyond he specified performance capabili y of he ool. Wai un il he LED goes ou and press he
ac ua or assy (VP1316) briefly again. The ool hen moves o i s s ar ing posi ions.
2. THE INSTALLATION TOOL COMPLETES THE CYCLE THEN STOPS.
a.) The ba ery (VP1086) is dead. The ool is pro ec ed by a pro ec ion circui . The LED ligh s up yellow. Replace he ba ery
wi h a fully charged one. The yellow LED goes ou and you can con inue working.
THE INSTALLATION TOOL DOESN’T WORK WITH A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY.
a.) Ensure mandrel collec ion bo le (VP1002) or cover cap (VP1321) is securely moun ed and fully engaged in he rear of he
ins alla ion ool ac iva ing he safe y swi ch. (See page 9).
