Important Informaon
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
WARNING: Read all instructions
• Do NOT touch the fence with the head, mouth, neck or torso. Do not climb over, through or under a
mul-wire electric fence. Use a gate or a specially designed crossing point.
• Do NOT become entangled in the fence. Avoid electric fence construcons that are likely to lead to the
entanglement of animals or persons.
• Do not mount in places exposed to heat sources (e.g. a sun heated metal wall.)
• Ensure the Energizer has adequate venlaon.
• Electric animal fences shall be installed and operated so that they cause no electrical hazard to persons,
animals or their surroundings.
• It is recommended that, in all areas where there is a likely presence of unsupervised children who will
be unaware of the dangers of electric fencing, that a suitably rated current liming device having a
resistance of not less than 500 ohms be connected between the energizer and the electric fence in this
area.
• The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision.
• Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
• Disconnect the baery from the energizer before charging baery.
• Do not place combusble materials near the fence or energizer connecons. In mes of extreme fire
risk, disconnect energizer.
• Regularly inspect the supply cord and energizer for any damage. If found damaged in any way,
immediately cease use of the energizer and return it to a Gallagher Authorised Service Centre for repair
in order to avoid a hazard.
• Refer servicing to a Gallagher Authorised Service Centre.
• Check your local council for specific regulaons.
• An electric animal fence shall not be supplied from two separate energizers or from independent fence
circuits of the same energizer.
• For any two separate electric animal fences, each supplied from a separate energizer independently
med, the distance between the wires of the two electric animal fences shall be at least 8 (2.5m). If this
gap is to be closed, this shall be effected by means of electrically non-conducve material or an isolated
metal barrier.
• Barbed wire or razor wire shall not be electrified by an energizer.
• A non-electrified fence incorporang barbed wire or razor wire may be used to support one or more
off-set electrified wires of an electric animal fence. The supporng devices for the electrified wires
shall be constructed so as to ensure that these wires are posioned at a minimum distance of 6 inches
(150mm) from the vercal plane of the non-electrified wires. The barbed wire and razor wire shall be
earthed at regular intervals.
• Follow the energizer manufacturer’s recommendaons regarding earthing.
• Do not install an earth (ground) system for your electric fence within 33(10m) of any power,
telecommunicaons or other system.
• Except for low output baery operated energizers, the energizer earth electrode should penetrate the
ground to a depth of at least 3(1m).
• Use high voltage lead-out cable in buildings to effecvely insulate from the earthed structural parts of
the building and where soil could corrode exposed galvanised wire. Do not use household electrical
cable.
• Connecng leads that are run underground shall be run in conduit of insulang material or else insulated
high voltage lead-out cable shall be used. Care must be taken to avoid damage to the connecng leads
due to the effects of animal hooves or tractor wheels sinking into the ground.
• Connecng leads shall not be installed in the same conduit as the mains supply wiring, communicaon
cables or data cables.
• Connecng leads and electric animal fence wires shall not cross above overhead power or
communicaon lines.
• If connected to a mains power circuit that doesn’t have a Residual Current Device (RCD), then a plug-in
RCD should always be used.
• Crossings with overhead power lines shall be avoided wherever possible. If such a crossing cannot be
avoided it shall be made underneath the power line and as nearly as possible at right angles to it.
• If connecng leads and electric animal fence wires are installed near an overhead power line, the

clearances shall not be less than those shown in the table below.

• If connecng leads and electric animal fence wires are installed near an overhead power line, their height
above the ground shall not exceed 10 (3m)
This height applies either side of the orthogonal projecon of the outermost conductors of the power
line on the ground surface, for a distance of
-6 (2m) for power lines operang at a nominal voltage not exceeding 1000V;
-49 (15m) for power lines operang at a nominal voltage exceeding 1000V.
• Electric animal fences intended for deterring birds, household pet containment or training animals such
as cows need only be supplied from low output energizers to obtain sasfactory and safe performance.
• In electric animal fences intended for deterring birds from roosng on buildings, no electric fence wire
shall be connected to the energizer earth electrode. A warning sign (G6020) shall be fied to every point
where persons may gain ready access to the conductors.
• Fence wiring should be installed well away from any telephone or telegraph line or radio aerial.
• Where an electric animal fence crosses a public pathway, a non-electrified gate shall be incorporated
in the electric animal fence at that point or a crossing by means of sles shall be provided. At any such
crossing, the adjacent electrified wires shall carry warning signs (G6020).
• Any part of an electric animal fence that is installed along a public road or pathway shall be idenfied by
electric fence warning signs (G6020) at regular intervals that are securely fastened to the fence posts or
firmly clamped to the fence wires.
• The size of the warning sign shall be at least 4 inches x 8 inches (100mm x 200mm).
• The background colour of both sides of the warning sign shall be yellow.
The inscripon on the sign shall be black and shall be either:
-the substance of “CAUTION: Electric Animal Fence” or,
-the symbol shown:
• The inscripon shall be indelible, inscribed on both sides of the warning
sign and have a height of at least 1 inch (25mm).
• Ensure that all mains operated, ancillary equipment connected to the
electric animal fence circuit provides a degree of isolaon between the
fence circuit and the supply mains equivalent to that provided by the energizer.
• Protecon from the weather shall be provided for the ancillary equipment unless this equipment is
cerfied by the manufacturer as being suitable for use outdoors, and is of a type with a minimum degree
of protecon IPX4.
WARNING: Risk of Electric Shock. Do not connect the Energizer simultaneously to a fence and to
any other device such as a cale trainer or a poultry trainer. Otherwise, lightning striking your fence
will be conducted to all other devices.
This Energizer complies with internaonal safety regulaons and is manufactured to internaonal
standards.

Step 1. Mount the Energizer
Permanent Installaon
a) Drill holes using the template on the centre page as
a drilling guide (A and B holes). Use a 4mm (5/32”)
diameter drill for mber walls or a suitable wall plug for
brick and concrete walls (illustraon a).
b) Fix the screws provided into the wall/post leaving the
head of the screw about 3mm (1/8”) out from the wall/
post (illustraon b).
c) Place the Energizer over and slide down on to the
mounng screws (illustraon c).

Portable installaon
Mount the Energizer on a post, out of reach of children and in a place where there
is no risk of the Energizer incurring mechanical damage and where there is no risk of
the leads being chewed by animals. Use the template described in a) - c).
Solar installaon
Mount Energizer to the underside of the Gallagher solar bracket/panel in a place
where there is no risk of mechanical damage. (Complete instrucons come with the
Solar Bracket Kitset G4870).

Step 2
Connect to earth (ground) system
Using Lead-out Cable G6270 remove 5cm (2”) of plasc coang from one end of
the cable and aach to the green terminal on the Energizer. Aach the cable to the
earth system by removing 10cm (4”) of insulaon from the cable at each Earth Stake,
then clamp the exposed wire to each stake using an Earth Clamp G8760. Tighten the
clamp.
For portable fencing – earth lead is provided.
Step 3
Connect the fence
Connect Energizer’s red terminal to the fence
using Lead-out Cable G6270: remove 5cm
(2”) of plasc coang from one end of the
cable and aach to the red terminal on the
Energizer. Aach the other end of the cable to
the fence using a Joint Clamp G6030.
For portable fencing – fence lead is
provided.
Step 4
Connect the baery
Connect the baery leads from the
Energizer to the baery: red lead
to the (+) terminal of baery,
black lead to the (-) terminal
of baery. Use external 12V deep cycle lead acid rechargeable baery. Do not
use non-rechargeable baeries. During charging, place lead acid baeries in a
well-venlated area.
Connect to Mains Power Adaptor (oponal accessory G40101)

This symbol indicates that the separate power supply unit (G40101) was used to power
the Fence Energizer during tesng. This symbol is located on the outside of the Fence
Energizer near the DC power entry inlet. Using a different power supply unit may void the
approvals and standards met by the Fence Energizer.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR ENERGIZER
Bar Graph
Use this bar graph for quick indicaon of your Energizer and Fence
performance.
See the following Energizer funcons to understand the bar graph.

Dial Functions
Baery Check
The baery charge level is displayed on the bar graph. The number of LED’s
illuminated provides an indicaon of remaining baery capacity.
Baery voltage will be displayed for approx. 15 seconds only. Aer this, the
energizer will turn offthe bar graph to conserve baery.
To recheck the baery, switch offthen switch back to baery check.
Off
• Energizer is off
• If you are not using the energizer for extended periods, disconnect baery
from the energizer.
Full Power
• Energizer operates at maximum energy and normal pulse rate.
• Bar graph displays the approximate fence terminal voltage by pulsing.
• Aer approx. 15 seconds, only the peak value LED flashes to indicate fence
condion.
Half-Power (B180/280)
The energizer operates at reduced power. This is recommended for shorter
lengths of fencing to preserve baery life.
Night Save (B180/280)
The energizer automacally adjusts to a slower pulse rate as night approaches
using light level detecon. Night save will extend the life of the baery by 50%.
Suitable for animals less acve at night.

Battery Protection Features
Baery Save
• 12V baeries typically have their life permanently reduced if they are
over-discharged. Your PowerPlus energizer includes several automac baery
protecon features to reduce damage from over discharge of the baery.
• The energizer pulse rate will automacally slow to half pulse rate if the baery
voltage falls to less than 12V, to conserve power.
• The energizer will automacally switch offif the baery voltage falls to less than 11V
to protect the baery from permanent damage. The energizer will turn on again
automacally if the baery voltage increases again, (e.g. if a solar panel is connected
and starts recharging the baery). This switch-offfeature can be disabled if required,
contact your dealer for this modificaon.

Note: Baery life is based on a fully charged 60Ah baery.
Over Voltage Warning
The bar graph will display by flashing all LEDs on and offconnuously, on any
switch sengs, if the baery input voltage exceeds 18V. The energizer will
automacally shut down to prevent operaon at voltages that could cause
damage.
