COOL Mode
Use the COOLmode widl HIGH(F3),MED (F2)or
LOW (F1)fan for cooling. Use the INCREASE •/
DECREASEV pads to set the desired temperature
between 64°F and 86°F in 1°F increments.
A thermostat is used to maintain the room
temperature. 'i11e compressor will cycle on and off
to keep the room at the set level of comfort. Set the
thermostat at a lower number and the indoor air
will become cooler. Set the thermostat at a higher
number and tim indoor air will bccome w-armen
NOTE:If theair conditioneris off andis thentumed on
whileset to COOL,ff will take approximately3 minutes
for the compressortostart and coolingtobegin.

Vent Control (on some models)

How to Insert the Batteries
[] Remove the battery" cover by sliding it
according to the arrow direction.
] Insert new batteries making sure that the (+)
and (-) of battery are installed correctly.
[] Reattach the cover by sliding it back
into position.
NOTES:
_ Use 2 _ (1.5 volt) batteries. Do not use
rechargeable batteries.
_ Remove the bat*eries from the remote, control if
the system is not going to Ix- used for a long time.
Grille and Case
_ml the air conditioner off and remove _e
plug from the wall outlet before cleaning. To clean, use water and a mild detergent.
Do not use bleach or abrasives.
OutdoorCoils
_12qecoils on the outdoor side of the air conditioner
should be checked regularly. If they" are clogged
with dirt or soot they may" IX- professionally
steam-deaned, a service available through your
GE service outlet.
AirFilter
The air filter behind the front grille should be
checked and cleaned at least every"30 days or
more ofRm if necessary.
Clean the filter with warm, soapy watm: Rinse and
let tim filter dry before replacing it.
CAUTION:DONOToperatetheairconditionerwithout
a filterbecausedirtandlintwill clogitandreduce
performance.

the bottom of the inlet grille.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
For personal safety, this air conditioner must be
properly grounded.
It is important to have the wall outlet and circuit
checked by a qualified electrician if there is any
doubt as to whether a proper ground exists.
Follow National Electric Codes (NEC)and/or local
codes and ordinances.
_CAUTION:
_DOnot, under any circumstances, cut or
i_ remove the third (ground) prong from the
power cord.
Do not change the plug on the power cord
of this air conditioner.
Aluminum house wiring may present
special problems--consult a qualified
electrician.

Storm Window Requirements
A storm window frame will not allow the air
conditioner to tilt towards the outside and will
keep it from draining properly. To adjust for this,
attach a piece of wood to the stool.

(if present) that holds the grille in place.

[Remove the 2 screws on each side of the case.
Keep these for later use. []Slide the air conditioner fi'om the case by gripping the base pan handle and pulling
fbrward while bracing the case.

Remove packing cardboard and tape if present.
Prepare the Case
[]Remove the backing from the top mounting
rail seal strip and attach it to the bottom of
the top mounting rail.
] Install the top mounting rail with 4 type A
or 5 type A screws (as the installation requires)
fi'om the outside of the case.

] Insert the frames for the accordion panels into
the top and bottom mounting rails. Attach the
accordion panels to the side of the case using
6 type A screws.

Install the Case in the Window
[]Cut the window sashsealm the window width
and stick the adhesive side to the bottom of
the sash.
[]Locate the 3 screw holes along the bottom
front edge of the case. Center the case, side-
to-side, in the window and mount it to the
window sill using 3 type B scre,a_.

[Thread two Woe C bolts into the support
brackets.
Slide the case into the window and lower the
window behind the top mounting rail.
Position the brackets Oil the ease bottom so
they"will be near the outermost point on the
window sill. Attach the support brackets m
each side of the case bottom using 4 type A
screws on each side. _i11ecase should be
slightly tilted to the outside. Use a level;
about a 1/2 bubble will be the correct case
slant to the outside.

Install the Air Conditioner in the Case

Reinstall the 2 _rews removed earlier on each
side of the case.
] Place the bottom inner case gasket between the
bottom of the air conditioner and the inside
bottom of the case. Fold up the. ends on both
sides and push them ill.
]Attach the front gTille to the case by inserting
the tabs on the grille into the slots on the front
of the case. Push the grille in until it snaps into
place.

close to the hole location or make
arrangements to install a receptacle.
[]Place the case in the wall opening and
secure with 12 1" long #10 wood screws.
NOTE:Drill pilot holes, if necessary,for proper
installation. If the frame is oversized, useshims
toprevent case distortion.
Finish the Wall Opening
Caulk all four sides on the outdoor side of the case to prevent moisture from getting through to the
interior wall. Use of flashing (drip rail) will further prevent water fl'om dripping inside the wall and
down the outside of the building.

Troubleshooting tips: Save time and money! Review the chart below first and you may not need to call for service.
Possible Causes What ToDo
The air conditioner • Make sure dm air conditioner plug is pushed
is unplugged, completely into the outlet.
The fuse is blown/clrcuit • Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace
breaker is tripped, tim fuse or reset the breaker.
Power failure. • If power failure occurs, turn the air conditioner OFF.
When power is restored, wait 3 minutes to restart the
air conditioner to prevent tripping of the compressor
overload.
Airflow is restricted. • Make sure there are no curtains, blinds or flu'nimre
blocking the fi'ont of tim air conditioner.
The temp control may • On models with much pads: In COOLmode, press the

• On models with control knobs, turn tim temperature

The air filter is dirty. • Clean the filter at least ew-ry 30 days.

The room may have been hot. • When the air conditioner is first mlamd on, you need

Cold air is escaping. • Check for open furnace registeL's and cold air returns.
• Set the air conditioner's vent to the closed position.
Cooling coils have iced up. • See "Air conditioner freezing up" below.
Ice blocks the air flow • On models with control knobs, set the mode control
and stops the air conditioner at HIGH FAN or HIGH COOLwith the remp at Ior 2
from cooling the room. • On models with touch pads, set the controls at
HIGH FANor HIGH COOLand set the thermostat to
a higher temperature.
The batterles are inset ted • Check the position of the batteries. 'l]aey should Ix-
incorrectly, inserted in the opposite (+) and (-) direction.
The batterles may be dead. • Replace the batteries.
Hot, humid weather. • This is normal.
The air conditioner is not • For proper water disposal, make sure the air conditioner
tilted to the outside, slants slightly fi'om tim case front to the rear.
Moisture removed from air • 'l]fis is normal fbr a short period in areas with little
and dra_s into base pan. humidity; normN for a longer period in very humid areas.
Function error code. • Unplug the air condifionel: Wait 3 minutes and plug it
back in. If tim error code reappears, call for service.
Normal Operating Sounds

N You may hear a pinging noise cruised hy water
being picked up and du'own agMnst the
condenser on rainy days or when tim humidity
is high. This design feature helps remove
moisture and improve efficiency.
/}55You may hear the thermostat click when the
compressor cycles on and off.
_NWater will collect in the base pan during
high humidity or on rainy days. 'I11e water
may overflow and drip from the outdoor side
of tim unit.
_ The Pan may run even when the compressor
does not.

We Will Replace:
Anypartof the air conditioner which fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship.
During this fullone-year warranty, we will also provide, free of charge, all labor and in-home
service to replace the defective part.

all connecting tobing) which fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship. During this

_ Service trips to your home to teach you how to

_ Improper installation. If you have an installation problem,
or if the air conditioner is of improper cooling capacity
for the intended use, contact your dealer or installer.
You are responsible for providing adequate electrical
connecting facilities.
_Failure of the product resulthtg from modifications to
the product or due to unreasonable use induding failure
to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance.
_In commercial locations labor necessary to move the
unit to a location where it is accessible for service
by an individual technician.
_Replacement of house fuses or resetting of cirofit
breakexs.
_Failure due to corrosion on models not corrosion-
protected.
_ Damage to the product caused by improper power supply
voltage, accident, Fire, floods or acts of God.
_ Incidental or consequential damage caused by possible
defects with this air conditioner.
This warranty is extended to the original purchaser and any succeeding owner for products purchased for home
use within the USA. In Alaska, the warranty excludes the cost of shipping or service calls to your home.
Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages. This warranty gives
