California Safe Drinking Water and To ic Enforcement Act
T is act requires t e governor of California to publis a list of substances known to t e state to cause cancer,
birt defects or ot er reproductive arm and requires businesses to warn customers of potential exposure to
suc substances.
Gas appliances can cause minor exposure to four of t ese substances, namely benzene, carbon monoxide,
formalde yde and soot, caused primarily by t e incomplete combustion of natural gas or LP fuels.
Properly adjusted dryers will minimize incomplete combustion. Exposure to t ese substances can be minimized
furt er by properly venting t e dryer to t e outdoors.
WARNING!
For your safety, the information in this manual must be followed to minimize the risk
of fire or explosion, electric shock, or to prevent property damage, personal injury, or
death.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS:
Do not try to light a match, or cigarette,
or turn on any gas or electrical
appliance.
Do not touch any electrical switch;
do not use any phone in your building.
Clear the room, building or area of all
occupants.
Immediately call your gas supplier
from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the
gas supplier’s instructions carefully.
If you cannot reach your gas supplier,
call the fire department.

■Properly ground dryer to conform wit all
governing codes and ordinances. Follow details
in Installation Instructions.
■Install or store w ere it will not be exposed to
temperatures below freezing or exposed to
t e weat er.
■Connect to a properly rated, protected and sized
power supply circuit to avoid electrical overload.
■Remove t e colored protective film from bot t e
control panel and t e door.
■Remove all s arp packing items and dispose of all
s ipping materials properly.
■Do not remove t e vent protector from t e back of
t e dryer (on some models).
■Pull t e protector out and down to its lowest
position and connect t e ex aust duct to t e dryer.
T e lowered protector will prevent t e duct from
getting crus ed (on some models).
E haust/Ducting:
Dryers MUST be ex austed to t e outside to
prevent large amounts of moisture and lint from
being blown into t e room.
Use only rigid metal or flexible metal 4″
diameter ductwork inside t e dryer cabinet or for
ex austing to t e outside. USE OF LASTIC OR
OTHER COMBUSTIBLE DUCTWORK CAN CAUSE
A FIRE. UNCTURED DUCTWORK CAN CAUSE A
FIRE IF IT COLLA SES OR BECOMES OTHERWISE
RESTRICTED IN USE OR DURING INSTALLATION.

YOUR LAUNDRY AREA

and dry to reduce t e possibility of slipping.
■Close supervision is necessary if t is appliance
is used by or near c ildren. Do not allow c ildren to
play on, wit or inside t is or any ot er appliance.
■Keep all laundry aids (suc as detergents, bleac es,
etc.) out of t e reac of c ildren, preferably in a
locked cabinet. Observe all warnings on container
labels to avoid injury.
■Never climb on or stand on t e dryer top.
WHEN USING YOUR DRYER
■Never reac into t e dryer w ile t e drum is
moving. Before loading, unloading or adding
clot es, wait until t e drum as completely
stopped.
■Clean t e lint filter before eac load to prevent lint
accumulation inside t e dryer or in t e room. DO
NOT O ERATE THE DRYER WITHOUT THE LINT
FILTER IN LACE.
■Do not was or dry articles t at ave been
cleaned in, was ed in, soaked in or spotted wit
combustible or explosive substances (suc as wax,
oil, paint, gasoline, degreasers, dry-cleaning
solvents, kerosene, etc.) w ic may ignite or
explode. Do not add t ese substances to t e
was water. Do not use or place t ese substances
around your was er or dryer during operation.
■Do not place items exposed to cooking oils in your
dryer. Items contaminated wit cooking oils may
contribute to a c emical reaction t at could cause
a clot es load to catc fire
.
■Any article on w ic you ave used a cleaning
solvent or t at contains flammable materials (suc
as cleaning clot s, mops, towels used in beauty
salons, restaurants or barber s ops, etc.) must not
be placed in or near t e dryer until solvents or
flammable materials ave been removed. T ere
are many ig ly flammable items used in omes
suc as acetone, denatured alco ol, gasoline,
kerosene, some ouse old cleaners, some spot
removers, turpentines, waxes, wax removers and
products containing petroleum distillates.
■T e laundry process can reduce t e flame
retardancy of fabrics. To avoid suc a result,
carefully follow t e garment manufacturer’s
care instructions.
■Do not dry articles containing rubber, plastic, foam
or similar materials suc as padded bras, tennis
s oes, galos es, bat mats, rugs, bibs, baby pants,
plastic bags, pillows, etc., t at may melt or burn.
Some rubber materials, w en eated, can under
certain circumstances produce fire by spontaneous
combustion.
■Do not store plastic, paper or clot ing t at may
burn or melt on top of t e dryer during operation.
■Garments labeled Dry Away from Heat or Do Not
Tumble Dry (suc as life jackets containing kapok)
must not be put in your dryer.
■Do not dry fiberglass articles in your dryer.
Skin irritation could result from t e remaining
particles t at may be picked up by clot ing
during subsequent dryer uses.
■To minimize t e possibility of electric s ock, unplug
t is appliance from t e power supply or disconnect
t e dryer at t e building’s distribution panel by
removing t e fuse or switc ing off t e circuit
breaker before attempting any maintenance or
cleaning (except t e removal and cleaning of t e
lint filter). NOTE: Pressing START, AUSE or OWER
does NOT disconnect t e appliance from t e power
supply.

WHEN NOT USING YOUR DRYER
■Grasp t e plug firmly w en disconnecting t is
appliance to avoid damage to t e cord w ile
pulling. Place t e cord away from traffic areas
so it will not be stepped on, tripped over or
subjected to damage.

Do not attempt to repair or replace any part
of t is appliance or attempt any servicing unless
specifically recommended in t is Owner’s Manual
or in publis ed user-repair instructions t at you
understand and ave t e skills to carry out.
■Before discarding a dryer, or removing it from
service, remove t e dryer door to prevent c ildren

damaged, malfunctioning, partially disassembled,
or as missing or broken parts, including a
damaged cord or plug.

■If yours is a gas dryer, it is equipped wit an
automatic electric ignition and does not ave

MATCH. Burns may result from aving your and
in t e vicinity of t e burner w en t e automatic
ignition turns on.
■You may wis to soften your laundered fabrics
or reduce t e static electricity in t em by using
a dryer-applied fabric softener or an anti-static
conditioner. We recommend you use eit er a fabric
softener in t e was cycle, according to t e
manufacturer’s instructions for t ose products,
or try a dryer-added product for w ic t e
manufacturer gives written assurance on t e
package t at t eir product can be safely used
in your dryer. Service or performance problems
caused by use of t ese products are t e
responsibility of t e manufacturers of t ose
products and are not covered under t e
warranty to t is appliance.

COTTONS For cottons and most linens.
MIXED LOAD For loads consisting of cottons and poly-blends.
WRINKLE FREE For wrinkle-free and permanent press items.
ACTIVE WEAR Clot ing worn for active sports exercise and some casual wear. Fabrics include new
tec nology finis es and stretc fibers suc as Spandex.
DELICATES For lingerie and special-care fabrics.

Manual Dry Cycles
SPEED DRY For small loads t at are needed in a urry, suc as sports or sc ool uniforms. Can also be
used if t e previous cycle left some items damp, suc as collars or waistbands.
DEWRINKLE For removing wrinkles from items t at are dry or slig tly damp. T is cycle is not
recommended for delicate fabrics.
AIR DRY Use t is feature to tumble items wit out eat.
My Cycles (on some models)
MY CYCLES Press to use, create or modify custom dry cycles.
Time Dry
Use to set your own dry time. TIME DRY is also recommended for small loads.
To use TIME DRY:
1. Press t e TIME DRY button until t e amount of time you want is selected.
2. Select t e temperature by pressing t e TEM button.
3. Close t e door.
4. Press t e START/ AUSE button.
Dry Level
T e sensor continuously monitors t e amount of moisture in t e load. W en t e moisture in your
clot es reac es your selected dry level, t e dryer will stop.
VERY DRY Use for eavy fabrics.
MORE DRY Use for eavy or mixed type of fabrics.
NORMAL Use for normal dryness level suitable for most loads. T is is t e preferred cycle
for energy saving.
LESS DRY Use for lig ter fabric (ideal for ironing).
DAMP DRY For leaving items partially damp.

LOW For delicates, synt etics and items labeled Tumble Dry Low.
EXTRA LOW For lingerie and special-care fabrics.
My Cycles
Set up your favorite combination of settings and save t em ere for one touc recall.
T ese custom settings can be set w ile a cycle is in progress.
To store a MY CYCLES combination of settings:
1. Select your drying cycle.
2. C ange TEM and DRY LEVEL settings to fit your needs.
3. Select any drying O TIONS you want.
4. Press and old t e pad for t ree seconds to store your selection. A beep will sound
and t e pad will lig t up.
To recall your stored MY CYCLES combination:
Press t e MY CYCLES button before drying a load.
To change your stored MY CYCLES combination:
Follow steps 1–4 in “To store a MY CYCLES combination of settings”.
START
Press to start a dry cycle. If t e dryer is running, press it once and it will pause t e dryer. Press it again
to restart t e dryer cycle.

seconds every 5 minutes for up to 3 ours.
T e dryer will display a “racetrack” on t e
display during t e Wrinkle Care p ase.
Wrinkle care s uts off automatically w en
t e door is opened.
Signal
Alerts you t at t e cycle is complete.
T e clot es s ould be removed w en t e
beeper goes off so wrinkles don’t set in.
Press SIGNAL to select low or ig volume,
or to turn t e beeper off.
T e beeper will continue to sound every
2 minutes (maximum of 4 times).
MORE TIME
Increases t e dry time in 1-minute
increments, up to 99 minutes.
LESS TIME
Decreases t e dry time in 1-minute
increments, down to 10 minutes.

Lock
You can lock t e controls to prevent any
selections from being made. Or you can lock
t e controls after you ave started a cycle.
Children cannot accidentally start the dryer
by touching pads with this option selected.
To lock t e dryer, press and old t e DRY
LEVEL and TEM buttons at t e same time
for 3 seconds. To unlock t e dryer, press and
old t e DRY LEVEL and TEM buttons for
3 seconds.
W en t e lock function is enabled, CL will
blink in t e display wit t e estimated time
remaining.
My Cycles
To save a favorite cycle, set t e desired
settings and old down t e MY CYCLES
button for 3 seconds. A beep will sound
to indicate t e cycle as been saved.
To use your custom cycle, press t e MY

Estimated Time Remaining
Displays t e approximate time remaining
until t e end of t e cycle.
As t e cycle begins, you will see an initial
approximate total cycle time in t e display.
T en lig ts will “race” in t e display. T is
means t e dryer is continuously monitoring
t e amount of moisture in t e load. T e lig ts
will continue until t e dryer senses a low level
of moisture in t e load. At t at point, t e
dryer will calculate and display t e
approximate time remaining.

Changing the Drum Lamp
Before replacing t e drum lamp, be sure to
unplug t e dryer power cord or disconnect
t e dryer at t e ouse old distribution panel
by removing t e fuse or switc ing off t e
circuit breaker.
T e drum lamp is located at t e top left of
t e door frame.
1Remove t e screw olding t e drum lamp
s ield in place.
2Slide t e s ield up and remove.
3Remove t e bulb and replace wit a
15-watt, 120-volt candelabra-base bulb.
4Replace t e lamp s ield and screw.
Using the Drying Rack
A andy drying rack may be used for drying
delicate items suc as was able sweaters.
Hook t e rack over t e lint filter so t e rack
extends into t e dryer drum.
NOTE:
• T e drying rack s ould only be used wit
t e TIME DRY cycle. It is also strongly
recommended w en drying sneakers.
• Do not use t is drying rack w en t ere are
ot er clot es in t e dryer.

Sorting and Loading Hints
As a general rule, if clot es are sorted
properly for t e was er, t ey are sorted
properly for t e dryer. Try also to sort items
according to size. For example, do not dry a
s eet wit socks or ot er small items.
Do not add fabric softener s eets once
t e load as become warm. T ey may
cause fabric softener stains. Bounce®
Fabric Conditioner Dryer S eets ave
been approved for use in all GE Dryers w en
used in accordance wit t e manufacturer’s
instructions.
Do not overload. T is wastes energy and
causes wrinkling.
Do not dry the following items:
fiberglass items, woolens, rubber-coated
items, plastics, items wit plastic trim and
foam-filled items.

Care and Cleaning of the Dryer
Dryer Interior and Duct: T e interior of
t e appliance and ex aust duct s ould be
cleaned once a year by qualified service
personnel.
The Exterior: Wipe or dust any spills or
was ing compounds wit a damp clot .
Dryer control panel and finis es may be
damaged by some laundry pretreatment
soil and stain remover products. Apply t ese
products away from t e dryer. T e fabric
may t en be was ed and dried normally.
Damage to your dryer caused by t ese
products is not covered by your warranty.
Do not touc t e surface or t e display wit
s arp objects.
The Lint Filter: Clean t e lint filter before eac
use. Remove by pulling straig t up. Run your
fingers across t e filter. A waxy buildup may
form on t e lint filter from using dryer-added
fabric softener s eets. To remove t is buildup,
was t e lint screen in warm, soapy water.
Dry t oroug ly and replace. Do not operate
t e dryer wit out t e lint filter in place.
Vacuum t e lint from t e dryer lint filter area
if you notice a c ange in dryer performance.
Stainless Steel: To clean stainless steel
surfaces, use a damp clot wit a mild,
nonabrasive cleaner suitable for stainless
steel surfaces. Remove t e cleaner residue,
and t en dry wit a clean clot .
T e stainless steel used to make t e
dryer drum provides t e ig est reliability
available in a GE dryer. If t e dryer drum
s ould be scratc ed or dented during normal
use, t e drum will not rust or corrode. T ese
surface blemis es will not affect t e function
or durability of t e drum.
The Exhaust Hood: C eck wit a mirror t at
t e inside flaps of t e ood move freely w en
operating. Make sure t at t ere is no wildlife
(birds, insects, etc.) nesting inside t e duct or
ood.

Tilt t e dryer sideways and remove t e foam
s ipping pads by pulling at t e sides and breaking
t em away from t e dryer legs. Be sure to remove
all of t e foam pieces around t e legs.
Remove t e bag containing t e drying rack,

FOR YOUR SAFETY:
WARNING
Before beginning t e installation, turn off t e circuit
breaker(s) or remove t e dryer’s circuit fuse(s) at t e
electrical box. Be sure t e dryer cord is unplugged
from t e wall.

GAS REQUIREMENTS
WARNING
•Installation must conform to local codes and
ordinances, or in t eir absence, t e NATIONAL
FUEL GAS CODE, ANSI Z223.
•T is gas dryer is equipped wit a Valve and
Burner Assembly for use only wit natural gas.
Using conversion kit WE25X10014, your local
service organization can convert t is dryer for
use wit propane (LP) gas. ALL CONVERSIONS
MUST BE MADE BY PROPERLY TRAINED AND
QUALIFIED PERSONNEL AND IN ACCORDANCE
WITH LOCAL CODES AND ORDINANCE
REQUIREMENTS.
•T e dryer must be disconnected from t e gas
supply piping system during any pressure testing
of t at system at a test pressure in excess of
0.5 PSI (3.4 KPa).
•T e dryer must be isolated from t e gas supply
piping system by closing t e equipment s ut-off
valve during any pressure testing of t e gas
supply piping of test pressure equal to or less
t an 0.5 PSI (3.4KPa).

GAS SUPPLY
•A 1/8″National Pipe Taper t read plugged
tapping, accessible for test gauge connection,
must be installed immediately upstream of t e
gas supply connection to t e dryer. Contact your
local gas utility s ould you ave questions on t e
installation of t e plugged tapping.
•Supply line is to be 1/2″rigid pipe and equipped
wit an accessible s utoff wit in 6 feet of, and in
t e same room wit , t e dryer.
•Use pipe compound appropriate for natural or LP
gas or use Teflon®tape.
•Connect flexible metal connector to dryer and
gas supply.

Install a female 3/8″NPT elbow at t e end of
t e dryer gas inlet.
Install a 3/8″flare union adapter to t e female
elbow.
IMPORTANT: Use a pipe wrenc to securely old
on to t e end of t e dryer gas inlet to prevent
twisting t e inlet.

t e t reads of t e adapter and dryer gas inlet.

TEST FOR LEAKS
WARNING – Never use an open
flame to test for gas leaks.
C eck all connections for leaks wit soapy solution
or equivalent.
Apply a soap solution. T e leak test solution must
not contain ammonia, w ic could cause damage
to t e brass fittings.
If leaks are found, close t e valve, retig ten t e joint
and repeat t e soap test.

fire, electrical shock and personal injury:
•Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug
wit t is appliance.
•T e dryer must be electrically grounded in
accordance wit local codes and ordinances, or
in t e absence of local codes, in accordance wit
t e NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, ANSI/NFPA
NO. 70.
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
FOR GAS DRYERS
T is appliance must be supplied wit 120V, 60Hz,
and connected to a properly grounded branc
circuit, protected by a 15- or 20-amp circuit breaker
or time-delay fuse.
If electrical supply provided does not meet t e
above specifications, it is recommended t at a
licensed electrician install an approved outlet.
WARNING – T is dryer is
equipped wit a t ree-prong (grounding) plug for
your protection against s ock azard and s ould
be plugged directly into a properly grounded
t ree-prong receptacle. Do not cut or remove
t e grounding terminal from t is plug.
Ensure proper
ground exists
before use.
If local codes permit, an external ground wire (not
provided), w ic meets local codes, may be added
by attac ing to t e green ground screw on t e rear
of t e dryer, and to an alternate establis ed ground.
