Taking the boat out with your friends or family for the day? Gemlux® Shade has got you covered,
literally. Add shade easily to your outriggers in just a few simple clicks. In minutes you can go from
fishing to lounging at the sandbar, covered by shade both in and out of water. Our Shade can be
attached to cover the aft of your boat, or even the bow by rotating your outriggers forward. And since
there are no straps or poles to get in your way, you retain full 360-degree fish-ability. In order to use
Gemlux Shade, you will need to purchase Outrigger Bases, a set of our outriggers with shade rings,
as the shade will attach to your outriggers.
On the following pages is a guide to help with shade deployment. Every boat has its own unique
challenges associated with each t-top and shade deployment. You can also view our instructional
video at gemlux.com/shade to see the shade deployed in an easy to follow step by step format.

STEP 1
Start with your outriggers collapsed
and in the straight back position.
Attach the straps to your attachment points
at the t-top and to your poles. In this case a
Velcro strap was attached to a hand rail
located on the outside edge of the t-top.

Attach the other two straps to guide 1 and 2
on each pole, as shown in the illustration to
the right.

Once the end tube of each pole has
been fully extended, sweep the
outrigger bases out one notch. This
begins the process of tensioning
the shade.

Start attaching your canvas to the straps using
the provided buckles. Widest portion of the
shade attaches to guide 1, middle strap to
guide 2 and the narrowest part to the t-top. We
recommend leaving all of the straps long as
this aids in the ease of deployment.

Fully extend the smallest pole out
first. Do this on both the port and
starboard poles.

Take one of the remaining clamps and extend the pole. The amount extended will be dierent per
application. We find it best to only extend one pole per side at a time, otherwise you may put the system
in a bind. Extend poles as much as necessary to eliminate slack from front to back.
You may have to extend all of
tubes to take out the slack in
the canvas.

Once most of the slack is out of the canvas, you can
start tightening up the straps. We recommend
snugging up the t-top strap first to evaluate the
position of the shade. If the gap between the shade
and t-top is too large, collapse the poles and
retighten. If the shade overlaps the t-top too much,
extend the poles and retighten.

Once you have snug both straps on the t-top and verified the location front and back of the shade, start to
snug up the rest of the straps. The goal is now to eliminate the slack port to starboard.
If shade is not taut between guides 1 on each pole, loosen straps attached to guide 2.
Once you snug all the straps, raise the poles to your
desired height. If raising the shade is too diicult,
release some of the tension on the t-top straps.
To eliminate any additional slack,
snug up each strap. If unable to safely
reach the straps, start by collapsing
each side then extend back out.
