Installation
1. Findsuitablemountinglocations
TheMeteringReservoirsmustbelocatedabovethehighestwaterlevelinthesump(oraquariumifyoudon’t
useasump)andthereplacementwaterbin,ataheightwheretheselectedpumpswillbeabletosupplyat
least1gallonofwaterperminute.TheMeteringReservoirsrarelyneedtobeaccessedafterinstallation,so
feelfreetotuckthemawaysomewherethatkeepsyourday‐to‐dayaquariumworkspaceclear.
Remember–waterisheavy!TheMeteringReservoirsmustbesecurelymountedonaverticalsurfacethat
cansupportaminimumof20poundsperbin.WhenmountingtheMeteringReservoirsonawall,ensurethat
themountingscrewswillbedrivenintowallstudsorusewallanchorsthatwillsupporttheweightofthebins.
TheControlModulemustbelocatedinaneasilyaccessible,drylocationprotectedfromaccidentalsplashes.
Thecordsandcontrolcablessuppliedareapproximately6feetinlength,andlevelsensorcablesare
approximately8feetinlength.EnsurethattheywillreachfromtheControlModuletotheirrespective
locationsbeforepermanentlymountingthecomponents.
2. MounttheMeteringReservoirs
Ensurenoelectricalwiresorplumbingresidebehindorwithinthemountingarea.Beverycarefulwhen
drillingordrivingscrewsintoablindmountinglocation!
Usingthesuppliedtemplateasaguide,markanddrilltwopilotholesasindicated.Notethatalinedrawn
betweenthecenterpointsofthetwoholesmustbeperfectlyvertical.
Insertwallanchorsifnecessary,followingalldirectionsprovidedwiththeanchors.
Drivethemountingscrewsintotheholesoranchors,leavingabout1/8”inchbetweenthescrewheadandthe
mountingsurface.
SliptheMeteringReservoirsontothescrewsandgentlypulldownabout1/2"untilfullyseated.Thereshould
beno“play”betweentheReservoirsandthemountingsurfacewhenproperlysecured.
oTip:itisoftenconvenienttoinstalltubing,ballvalves,andReservoirCoverspriortomounting
theMeteringReservoirsonthescrews
RepeatthesestepsforthesecondMeteringReservoir
3. MounttheControlModule
Ensurenoelectricalwiresorplumbingresidebehindorwithinthemountingarea.Beverycarefulwhen
drillingordrivingscrewsintoablindmountinglocation!
Usingthesuppliedtemplateasaguide,markanddrilltwopilotholesasindicated.
Insertwallanchorsifnecessary,followingalldirectionsprovidedwiththeanchors.
Drivethemountingscrewsintotheholesoranchors,leavingjustlessthan3/8”inchbetweenthescrewhead
andthemountingsurface.
SliptheControlModuleontothescrewsandgentlypulldownabout1/2"untilfullyseated.Thereshouldbe
no“play”betweentheControlModuleandthemountingsurfacewhenproperlysecured.
4. MounttheLevelSensors(AdvancedandPromodelsorpurchasedseparately)
TheLevelSensorShroudsaredesignedsuchthattheycanbeusedinmanydifferentconfigurations.
oLevelSensorscanbeinstalledinside,above,orbelowtheshrouds
oTheShroudCovercanbeinsertedontotherearoftheShroudtocreateahangerthatis
adjustablefortanklipwidthsasnarrowas1/2"oraswideas2‐1/4”
oTheshroudscanbeleftopenorcanbeclosedtopreventcrittersorwaterturbulencefrom
affectingthesensors’performance
oTheshroudswillslideontoandsecurethemselvesonanystandard1/2"PVCpipe,allowingthem
tobepositionedatanyheight

5. ConnecttheComponents
NOTE:ALLWIRESSHOULDHAVEADRIPLOOPTOPREVENTWATERFROMENTERINGTHECONTROLMODULE
PlugintotheControlModuletheharnessfromtheMeteringReservoirthatwillreceivewaterfromyour
aquariumsystem(thewastewater).Thisharnessplugsintothe6‐pinreceptacleonthelowerright‐handside
(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
PlugintotheControlModuletheharnessfromtheMeteringReservoirthatwillreceivewaterfromyour
replacementwaterbin.Thisharnessplugsintothe6‐pinreceptacleonthelowerleft‐handside(asyouare
lookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
Ifused,plugtheaquariumorsump’sLevelSensorcableintothe2‐pinreceptacleonthelowerright‐handside
(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
Ifused,plugthereplacementwaterbin’sLevelSensorintothe2‐pinreceptacleonthelowerleft‐handside(as
youarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
IfcouplingyourRENEW™systemwithaSTORMautomatictopoffsystem(seeourwebsiteforwhyyouwant
todothis!),plugthesuppliedcommunicationharnessintothecenter6‐pinreceptacleonthebackofthe
RENEW™ControlModule,andplugtheotherendintothecenter6‐pinreceptacleonthebackoftheSTORM
ControlModule.
6. Attachthe1/2”supplytubingonthereplacementwater’sMeteringReservoirtoapumpandplacethepumpinthe
replacementwaterbin.Cutthetubingtolengthifdesired.
7. Attachthe1/2”supplytubingonthewastewater’sMeteringReservoirtoapumpandplacethepumpintheaquariumor
sump.Cutthetubingtolengthifdesired.
8. Routethe5/8”tubingattachedtothereplacementwater’sMeteringReservoirbacktothereplacementwaterbin.The
tubingshouldbesecuredsuchthattheendofthetubingisjustabovethehighestwaterlevelinthebinandsothatthe
waterwillrundownthesideofthebinasthewaterleveldrops.Doingsowillimprovewaterflowandreducenoisewhen
waterflowsbackintothereplacementwaterbin.Cutthetubingtolengthifnecessary.
9. Routethe5/8”tubingattachedtothewastewater’sMeteringReservoirbacktotheaquariumorsump.Thetubing
shouldbesecuredsuchthattheendofthetubingisjustabovethewaterlevelandsothatthewaterwillrundownthe
side.Doingsowillimprovewaterflowandreducenoisewhenwaterflowsbackintotheaquariumorsump.Cutthe
tubingtolengthifnecessary.
10. Routethe1/2"tubingattachedtothevalveonthereplacementwater’sMeteringReservoirtotheaquariumorsump.
Theendofthetubingshouldbesecuredsuchthattheendofthetubingisjustabovethewaterlevelandsothatthe
waterwillrundowntheside.Doingsowillimprovewaterflowandreducenoisewhenreplacementwaterflowsintothe
aquariumorsump.Cutthetubingtolengthifnecessary.

11. Routethe1/2"tubingattachedtothevalveonthewastewater’sMeteringReservoirtoasuitablereceivingreceptacleor
drain.

GettingtoknowyourRENEW™AutomaticWaterChangeSystem
1. Afterinstallingyoursystem,pluggingitin,andpreparingyourreplacementwater,turnontheRENEW™systembyusing
thepowerswitchonthefrontfaceoftheControlModule.Whenpoweris“ON,”theswitchwillilluminate.SeveralLED
indicatorsandthedisplaywillilluminatewhenthepowerisonaswell.
2. TherearefouruserinputbuttonsontheControlModule.Startingontheleftandmovingtowardtheright,thebuttons
areMODE,START/PAUSE/CANCEL,andthenINCREASEandDECREASEontheright.Allarelabeledaccordingly.
3. DepressingtheMODEbuttonchangeswhetherthesystemwillperformawaterchangeoverthecourseofaday,aweek,
oronegallonafteranotheruntilcomplete.Forexample,ifyouwantperforma24gallonwaterchangeoverthecourseof
24hours,usetheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsuntilthedisplayreads“24”andthenpresstheMODEbuttonuntilthe
indicatornextto“DAY”isilluminated.WhentheSTARTbuttonisdepressedthesystemwillstartasequenceof24one‐
gallonwaterchanges,with1one‐gallonwaterchangeperformedeveryhour(24hrs/daydividedby24gallons).
Changingthemodeto“WEEK”willstretchthe24gallonwaterchangeoverthetimespanofoneweekbyperforminga
one‐gallonwaterchangeevery7hours(168hrs/weekdividedby24gallons).Finally,changingthemodeto
“CONTINUOUS”andpressingtheSTARTbuttonwouldresultinaone‐gallonwaterchangefollowedimmediatelyby
anotherone‐gallonwaterchange,foratotalof24changes.
4. TheSTART/PAUSE/CANCELbuttonistheprimarycontrolbuttonfortheRENEW™system.Momentarilypressingand
releasingthebuttonwillstartasequenceofwaterchanges.Momentarilypressingandreleasingthebuttonduringan
activesequenceofwaterchangespausesthesequenceuntilpressedagain,atwhichtimethesequenceofwaterchanges
willresume.Pressingandholdingthebuttonforbetweenthreeandfivesecondswillpermanentlycancelanactive
sequenceofwaterchanges.Pressingandholdingthebuttonforfivesecondsorlongerwillpermanentlycancelanactive
sequenceofwaterchangesandwillorderthesystemtoemptytheMeteringReservoirs.
TheSTART/PAUSE/CANCELbuttonistheonlybuttonthatisactiveduringasequenceofwaterchanges.Onceawater
changesequencehasbeenstarted,thesystemwillignoreinputfromtheotherthreebuttonsuntilthewaterchangeis
canceledorhascompleted.
5. TheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonssimplychangethenumberofgallonstobechanged.
6. PressingandholdingtheMODEandSTART/PAUSE/CANCELbuttonssimultaneouslyforfivesecondsaccessesthe
OperationSettingsfortheRENEW™system.Thesesettingsallowtheusertosetthetypeofsystemthattheyhave(Basic,
Advanced,orPro),andaregenerallynotneededafterthesystemisinitiallyinstalledunlessthesystemisupgradedto
includeadditionallevelsensors.OnceinOperationSettings,theINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsareusedtoselectthe
operationmode.Basic(“b”)modeisthedefaultandwillneedtobechangedifyouhaveanAdvancedorPromodel.
Basicmodedoesnotmonitorlevelsensorinput.Advanced(“A”)modemonitorsthetwostandalonelevelsensorsthat
areplacedinthesump(oraquarium)andreplacementbin.Promodelscanberunintwodifferentoperatingmodes:
standard(“PS”)orabbreviated(“PA”).ProStandardoperatingmodewillmonitorallsixpossiblelevelsensorsandwill
adjustthecycletimesbasedonthereservoirlevelsensors’inputs,andwillincludetheStandbystageaftereachDispense
stage.ProAbbreviatedoperationwillfunctionsimilarly,butwillskiptheStandbystageandimmediatelystartanother
cyclewheninContinuousmode.SkippingtheStandbystageallowsthesystemtoexchangeavolumeofwatermore
quickly,butdoesnotallowthewaterjustreplacedtomixwiththeentireaquariumvolumeasthoroughly.
7. ThepowerswitchcanbeusedatanytimetoquicklyshutoffyourRENEW™systemandisequippedwithathermalcircuit
breakerthatwillautomaticallyshutdownthesystemifitdrawsmorethan10amps.
ExampleofOperation
Let’sassumethatyouwantyourRENEW™systemtoperforma15percentwaterchangeonyour90gallonaquariumwitha10
gallonsump.Let’salsoassumethatyouwantittoperformthechangeinasshortatimeaspossible.
Sinceyourtotalwatervolumeis100gallons,you’llwanttoperforma15gallonwaterchange:

changeandalertyouifitdeterminesthatsomethingisn’tquiteright–offeringtheultimatepeaceofmind!
FeelfreetoexperimentwiththesettingsonyourRENEW™systemtofindoutwhatbestsuitsyourneeds.Ifyouever“getlost,”and
wanttogetbacktothefactorydefaultsettings,simplyturntheunitoff,presstheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonssimultaneously,
andwhilestillholdingthemturntheunitbackon.YourRENEW™systemwillresetitselftothefactorydefaults.
InterruptingandCancelingaWaterChangeSequence
IfyoueverneedtopauseyourRENEW™systemwhileitisinanactivewaterchangesequence,simplypressandreleasethe
START/PAUSE/CANCELbutton.Thecurrentstageindicatorwillblinktoindicatethatthesystemispaused.Toresumethesequence,
simplypressandreleasethebuttonagain,andyourRENEW™systemwillcontinueuntilcompleted.
Ifyoueverneedtopermanentlycancelasequence,pressandholdtheSTART/PAUSE/CANCELbuttonfor3seconds.Thestage
indicatorswillblinktoindicatethatyou’vecanceledthesequence.Youcanalsocancelasequenceanddispensethecontentsofthe
MeteringReservoirsbypressingandholdingtheSTART/PAUSE/CANCELbuttonfor5seconds.Thestageindicatorswillblinkafter
holdingthebuttonforthreesecondstoindicatethatthecyclehasbeencanceled,andwillopentheMeteringReservoirvalvesafter
5secondstodrainanywatercontainedwithinthem.
InteractionwiththeGenesisSTORM™SpecializedTopOffandReplenishmentModule
YourRENEW™canbeconnectedtoaGenesisSTORM™SpecializedTopOffandReplenishmentModuletoallowbothunitstobe
installedinanaquariumsystemandworktogetherwithoutmanuallydisablingtheSTORM™.TheSTORM™willnotattempttotop
offthesumporaquariumanytimetheRENEW™unitisactivelyperformingawaterchangecycle.ThispreventstheSTORM™from
attemptingtoreplacethewastesaltwaterremovedbytheRENEW™systemwithfreshwater.Doingsowouldadverselyaffect
salinityinasaltwateraquariumandcouldeventuallyresultinoverflowingthesumpineitherafreshwaterorsaltwateraquarium.
TheRENEW™willindicatethatitdetectstheSTORM™viatheindicatorsinthelowercenterportionoftheControlModule,andwill
illuminatewhenitisdisablingtheSTORM’s™topofffunctionsaswell.

Limited Warranty Genesis Reef Systems warrants for 6 months from the date of purchase that Genesis Reef Systems products will be free of defects in material and manufacture.
Genesis Reef Systems makes no other warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular
purpose. This limited warranty does not cover damage resulting from use or misuse of a Genesis Reef Systems product, workmanship in application, or application
or storage not in accordance with Genesis Reef Systems recommended procedures. This warranty does not apply to products not directly manufactured by Genesis
Reef Systems or consumable items that may degrade as part of normal use.

If the Genesis Reef Systems product is proved to be defective within the warranty period stated above the exclusive remedy, at Genesis Reef Systems’ option, shall
be to refund the purchase price of or to repair or replace the defective Genesis Reef Systems product. Genesis Reef Systems shall not otherwise be liable for loss or
damages, whether direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential, regardless of legal theory asserted, including negligence, warranty, or strict liability.
