How
to
operate your
320
Stencil
Duplicator
STEP
1
Remove Cover. Lower Feedboard and
Receiving Tray.
Turn
Handle out-
wards. Insert plug into electrical
outlet.
STEP
2
Check
that
Feed Lever is raised and
give Handle one complete
tum
clock-
wise to ensure Feed mechanism is not
operating.
Ensure
that
the Hand Feed
LP.ver
is raised.

Inking Machine
STEP
3
Open Inker Door (ill.
A).
Raise
Tube
Locking Lever
(B).
Hold Ink
Tube
by the shoulder and
remove cap.
NOTE: DO
NOT
SQUEEZE TUBE.
Place crimped end in
'V'
of
Tube
Support and press gently downwards
until
Tube
Nozzle is level with
Tube
Holder.
(C).
Insert
Tube
Nozzle
into
Tube
Holder.
(D).
Push Nozzle fully into Holder.
(E).
Then
push
Tube
Locking Lever fully
downwards until roller
'R'
is
at
extreme
end of slot 'S'. Close Inker Door.
(F).
STEP
4
Turn
Ink Selector
to
full width inking
position-this
is indicated by a full blue
line appearing
on
top of Ink Selector.
Start
machine by raising Switch.
Apply ink by moving Ink Lever fully
backwards and forwards with a slow,
steady action. When ink is evenly
distributed a uniform, thin film of ink
will be visible, giving a slight sheen to
the surface of the Silk Screen.
Then
switch off machine by de-
pressing Switch.
NOTE:
Ink can be applied
to
full
width. left hand side, right hand side
and center of Stencil by means of Ink
Selector.
Ink positions are indicated by four
blue markings on Selector as shown in
illustration.
Fitting Stencil
STEP
5
Turn
Handle clockwise until Stencil
Fixing Bar is
at
top of machine. Lift up
Stencil Fixing Bar Cover until
it
locks
in raised position. Fasten Stencil with
typed side towards Silk Screen, making
sure
that
holes in Stencil Heading fit
securely over Fixing Bar Studs. Close
Fixing Bar Cover.

Place right
hand
lightly on
center
of
Backing Sheet
just
below Stencil Fixing
Bar,
turn
Handle slowly clockwise,
keeping right
hand
steady
to
maintain
continual pressure
over
full length of
Backing Sheet. Stop turning when the
Handle is in its top position.
Raise Backing Sheet, if stencil is
creased re-lay
it
by
hand-See
Page 7
Turn
Handle clockwise
to
its bottom
position.
STEP
7
Depress Proofing Button,
turn
Handle
slowly one complete revolution clock-
wise and release Proofing Button.
Turn
Handle to its top position,
turn
back Backing Sheet
and
check
that
the
copy is uniformly inked. If necessary
repeat
the operation.
When
the
copy is uniformly inked
hold
bottom
edge of Backing Sheet,
raise
it
slightly
outwards
and
turn
the
Handle anti-clockwise
to
its bottom
pos1t1on. Remove Backing Sheet by
tearing
it
off along
perforated
line.
Adjust Receiving
Tray
and
Feedboard
STEP
8
Raise
Back
and
Side
Guides
of
Receiving
Tray
and move
them
fully
outwards.

Pull Back Fence fully
to
rear
of
Feedboard.
Fan
out
paper
and
jog
it
back
to
original state. Place paper
on
Feed-
boardfully forward; use scale
to
position
paper centrally on Feedboard.
NOTE:
Never
place more paper on
Feedboard
than
will fit easily
under
Paper
Height Stop.
Move Side Fences
to
rest
lightly
against paper stack, and secure them
in this position.
Move Back Fence forward until
it
almost touches
rear
edge of paper stack
and lower
Paper
Weight on
to
paper.
NOTE:
For
quick reloading raise
Paper
Weight
to
top position and lay
Back Fence horizontal
to
Feedboar
d.
Setting Feed Unit
STEP

Check position
of
Feed Pressure Lever.
For
normal use
it
should be
at
top of
slot'+'.
If lightweight paperis
to
be fed move
Feed
Pressure
Lever
to
bottom
of
slot'-'.
Printing
First
Copy
STEP
11
Raise Feedboard by turning Feedboard
Raising
Knob
until
paper
contacts
Paper
Height
Stop.
The
Raising
Knob is automatically disengaged when
this position is reached.
Depress Feed Lever, slowly
turn
Handle clockwise and as soon as
Feed
mechanism begins
to
operate raise Feed
Leverwhilst completing clockwise
turn
of Handle.

Examine copy for correct position.
Turn

necessary if instructions on stencil are
observed and Print Height Adjuster

'O'.
Adjust side margins by moving
paper
stack across Feedboard using the scale
as a guide.

Set
Receiving
Tray
by laying edge of
printed copy against
Front
Guides.
Move
Front
and Side Guides to
touch sides of copy.
Move Back Guide to touch top edge
of copy.
Setting
of
Counter
STEP

SetCounter
to
number of copies needed
by turning Hundreds Setter anti-clock-
wise to
100'
s required
on
inner dial,
and
turn
Units Setter anti-clockwise to
units required
on
outer
dial.
Example
-
Illustration
shows
Counter
set
for
1,025
copies.
When required number of copies has
been printed the
Counter
registers
'O'
and
automatically
stops
Feed
mechanism.

Printing Copies
STEP
15
Select speed of machine -RAISE
Speed
Switch
for
FAST
speed
and
LOWER
for
SLOW
speed.
Start
machine by raising Switch.
Depress
Feed
Lever
to
commence
printing.
IMPORTANT: If
it
is desired to
change speed of machine, always raise
Feed Lever before doing so.
TO
STOP
MACHINE
WHILST
PRINTING
FIRST
RAISE
FEED
LEVER
AND
THEN
DEPRESS
SWITCH.
Watch
copies as
they
are
printed
to
ensure machine remains adequately
inked.
When
necessary apply ink
by
operating Ink Lever.
When
paper
on
Feedboard is almost
exhausted
the
Feed mechanism stops
and the Feedboard drops to its bottom
position.
Switch
off
machine
and
remow
copies from Receiving
Tray
.
RE-RUNNING
USED
STENCILS
Ink
machine and
attach
stencil as in
Steps 4 and 5.
Turn
Handle until Stencil Fixing Bar
is in line with Feed mechanism.
Grip
bottom
of Stencil. hold
it
upright and then lay
it
evenly on Silk
Screen
over
its entire length.
Remove any creases by lifting bottom
of
Stencil with
right
hand
and re-laying
Stencil slowly on Silk Screen.
Turn
Handle a little
at
a time and stretch
out
any creases with fingers of left hand.
NOTE:
DO
PROOFING
NOT
DEPRESS
BUTTON.

STEP
1
Disconnect Silk Screen Springs. Lift
up Spring Bar, raise Silk Screenupright,
lift up Stencil Fixing Bar Cover and
with a slightpull disconnect Silk Screen
from Stencil Fixing Bar.
STEP
2
Raise Inking Roller Lever and with-
draw Inking Rollers from machine.
STEP
3
Open
Inker
Door. Raise
Tube
Locking
Lever. Remove Ink
Tube
and replace
its cap.
Depress Pump Catch
and
withdraw
Ink Gun. Close
Inker
Door.

Place a Color Change Strip, wording
uppermost, firmly
on
main
bar
of Color
Changer. Hold the Color Changer by its
Levers and insert
it
between
the
Cylinders
at
the
back of the machine with the pronged
links inwards. Fold Levers fully inwards.
STEP
5
Turn
Handle slowly for one complete
revolution.
Open
Levers
outwards.
Withdraw Color Changer. Discard Color
Change Strip and wipe Cylinders with a
soft cloth.
STEP
6
Insert new Inking Rollers and lower Inking
Roller Lever.
Turn
Handle
to
check
that
both Inking Rollers rotate and oscillate.
Insert new Ink Gun and push inwards
until it is locked in position by the Pump
Catch.
Raise Stencil Fixing Bar Cover.
Unroll Silk Screen. With
your
righthand
hold right hand end of Spring
Bar-in
this
position two studs on Spring Bar will be
facing you; and with
other
hand hold left
hand end of Screen
Tin
.
Stand behind Receiving
Tray
and hold
Silk Screen outstretched and vertically
above slots in Fixing Bar.
Insert hooks of Screen
Tin
in Slots and
slightly lower Screen towards you.
Still holding Spring Bar with right hand,
lower Screen and
turn
Handle slowly with
left hand.
Connect Screen Springs to Fixing Bar.

Catch holds Feed
Unit
in raised position.
Press Feed Finger Clip inwards and
remove Feed Finger by pulling downwards.
Insert studs of small Feed Finger into
slots of Feed Bracket, bridge 'B' uppermost;
and press fully upwards.
Raise right hand Catch and lower Feed
Unit.
Ensure
that
Catches
dip
over
Mainshaft.
NOTE:
The
removed Feed Finger can be
stored
in
a holder behind
Inker
Door.
STEP
2
Fit Small Paper Guides
to
machine with
lugs 'L' nearest
to
Side Frames, by engaging
groove
at
top of Holders with Feed Unit
Support and pressing fully inwards
to
engage Mainshaft.
STEP
3
Place papers
to
be fed in center of Feed-
board fully forward.
NOTE:
Paper
wider
than
9½8
can
be
accommodated by interchanging Guides
as shown in inset.
Press Guide Buttons inwards
to
release
Guide Rods.
Slide Guides towards stack so
that
Guide
Rods lightly contact sides of paper.
Move Back Fence until it almost touches
rear
of stack and lower Paper Weight.
NOTE:
When
not
required
the
Guides can
remain fitted
to
the
machine by raising
the
Rods and pushing the Guides to
the
extreme
L.H. and R.H. ends of
the
support.
