Expansion cardscontainverydelicateIntegrated Circuit(IC)chips.Toprotectthemagainst
damage fromstaticelectricity,you shouldfollowsomeprecautionswheneveryouworkonyour
computer.
1.Turnoffyourcomputerandunplugpowersupply.
2.Useagrounded wriststrap beforehandlingcomputercomponents.If you do nothaveone,
touchbothofyourhandstoasafelygrounded objectortoametalobject, suchasthe power
supplycase.
3.Placecomponentson agrounded antistaticpad oron the bag thatcamewiththe
componentswheneverthecomponentsareseparatedfromthesystem.
Thecardcontainssensitiveelectriccomponents,whichcanbeeasilydamagedbystaticelectricity,
sothecardshouldbeleftinitsoriginalpackinguntilitisinstalled.
Unpackingandinstallationshouldbedoneonagroundedanti-staticmat.Theoperatorshouldbe
wearingananti-staticwristband,groundedatthesamepointastheanti-staticmat.
Inspectthecardcartonforobviousdamage.Shipping andhandlingmaycausedamagetoyour
card.Besuretherearenoshippingandhandlingdamagesonthecardbeforeproceeding.

InstallingYourGraphicscard.
Nowthatyouhavepreparedyourcomputer,youarereadytoinstallyourgraphicsaccelerator
card.
To install yourgraphics acceleratorcard:
1.Poweroff thecomputerand monitor,then
disconnectthedisplaycablefromtheback
ofyourcomputer.
2.Removethecomputercover.Ifnecessary,
consultyourcomputer'smanualforhelpin
removingthe cover.
3.Removeanyexisting graphics cardfrom
yourcomputer.
Or,ifyourcomputerhasanyonboard
graphicscapability,youmayneedtodisable
itonthemotherboard.Formoreinformation,
seeyoucomputerdocumentation.

4.LocatetheAGPslot.Ifnecessary,remove
themetalcoverfromthisslot;thenalignyour
graphicscardwiththeAGPslot,andpressit
infirmlyuntilthecardisfullyseated.
5.Replacethescrewtofastenthecardinplace,
andreplacethecomputercover.
6.Plugthedisplaycableintoyourcard;then
turnon the computerand monitor.If your
graphics cardcamewithaDVIconnector,
youcanconnectaflatpaneldisplaytothe
appropriateconnectorasshownbelow.
Youarenowreadytoproceedwiththeinstallationofthegraphicscarddrivers.Pleaserefer
tothenextchapterfordetailedinstructions.
Afterinstallation,pleaseconnectthepowercabletoyour
GV-R80T256Vgraphicscard,orsystemwillnotboot.

Inthismanual, weassumethatyourCD-ROMDrive lettertobeDrive D:
Theinstallation ofWin®98/98SE/Win®2000/Win®ME/Win®XPdriversisverysimple.
When you insertthe driverCD intoyourCD-ROMdrive,you can see the AUTORUN
window(ifitdoesnotshowup,run"D:\setup.exe").Thenyoucanfollowtheguidestosetup
yourgraphicscarddriver.(Pleasefollowthesubsection3.1.3"Driverinstallation"toinstall
the driverforyourgraphics accelerator.)
3.1.WIN®XP DRIVERAND UTILITIES INSTALLATION
3.1.1.Operating SystemRequirement
•Wheninstallingthegraphicscarddrivers,pleasemakesureyouhaveinstalledDirectX
9orlaterversion foryoursystem.
•Ifyou installthegraphics carddriversforamotherboardbuiltonSISorVIAchipset,
pleaseinstall the appropriatedriverprogramforthe motherboard.Orcontactthe
nearestdealerofthe motherboardforthemotherboarddriver.

automaticallydetectanewhardwareinthesystemanda"NewHardwareFound"message
will popup.Pleaseselect"Donotinstall adriver"andpress OK.
Step2:UpdateDevice DriverWizard:StandardPCIGraphics Adapter(VGA)
Step3:UpdateDevice DriverWizard:Finish
Atthismoment,systemwillaskforyourWindowsCDinordertocompletetheVGAdriver
installation.Ifyoudon'thavetheCD,youcanpressC:\Windows\Systemdirectory.
Step4:SystemSetting Change
1.Click Next.
M Don'tclick Cancel, orthe
systemwill hang.
2.Click Finish.
