2.1.UNPACKING
The GV-R9700 package containsthe following:

WARNING!
Expansion cardscontainverydelicateIntegrated Circuit(IC)chips.Toprotectthemagainst
damage fromstaticelectricity,you shouldfollowsomeprecautionswheneveryou workon
yourcomputer.
1.Turnoff yourcomputerand unplug powersupply.
2.Useagrounded wriststrap beforehandling computercomponents.If you do nothaveone,
touchbothofyourhandstoasafelygrounded objectortoametalobject, suchasthe
powersupplycase.
3.Placecomponentson agrounded antistaticpad oron the bag thatcamewiththe
componentswheneverthe componentsareseparated fromthe system.
The cardcontainssensitiveelectriccomponents,whichcan be easilydamaged bystatic
electricity,sothe cardshouldbe left initsoriginalpacking until itisinstalled.
Unpacking and installation shouldbe done on agrounded anti-staticmat. The operatorshould
be wearing an anti-staticwristband,grounded atthe samepointasthe anti-staticmat.
Inspectthe cardcarton forobviousdamage.Shipping and handling maycausedamage to
yourcard.Besurethereareno shipping and handling damageson the cardbeforeproceeding.
MDONOTAPPLYPOWERTOYOUR SYSTEMIFITHASBEENDAMAGEDONTHECARD.
MInordertoensureyourgraphics cardworking correctly,please use officialGigabyte
BIOSonly.Use noneofficialgigabyteBIOSmightcause problemon thegraphics card.

Installing YourGraphics card.
Nowthatyou haveprepared yourcomputer,you arereadytoinstall yourgraphics
acceleratorcard.
To install yourgraphics acceleratorcard:
1.Poweroff the computerand monitor,then
disconnectthe displaycablefromthe back
ofyourcomputer.
2.Removethe computercover.If necessary,
consultyourcomputer'smanualforhelp
inremoving the cover.
3.Removeanyexisting graphics cardfrom
yourcomputer.
Or,ifyourcomputerhasanyon-board
graphics capability,you mayneed to
disableiton the motherboard.Formore
information,see you computer
documentation.

4.Locatethe AGPslot. If necessary,remove
the metalcoverfromthisslot; then align
yourGraphics cardwiththe AGPslot, and
press itinfirmlyuntil the cardisfullyeated.

5.Replacethe screwtofasten the cardin
place,and replacethe computercover.
6.Plug the displaycableintoyourcard;then
turnon the computerand monitor.If your
Graphics cardcamewithaDVIconnector,
you can connectaflatpaneldisplaytothe
appropriateconnector,asshownbelow...
You arenowreadytoproceed withthe installation ofthe Graphics carddriver.Fordetailed
instructions,selectyouroperating systemfromthe listbelow.
Afterinstallation,pleaseconnectthe powercabletoyour
GV-R9700 graphics card,orsystemwill notboot.

Inthismanual, weassumethatyourCD-ROMDrive lettertobeDrive D:
3.1.WINDOWS®98 /98SE /WINDOWS®ME/WINDOWS®XP DRIVER
AND UTILITIES INSTALLATION
The installation ofWin®98/98SE /WINDOWS®2000 /Win®ME/Win®XP driversisvery
simple.When you insertthe driverCD intoyourCD-ROMdrive,you can see the AUTORUN
window(ifitdoesnotshowup,run "D:\setup.exe").Then you can followguidestosetup
yourGV-R9700 driver(Pleasefollowthe subsection 3.1.3"Step ByStep Installation"to
install the driverforyourGV-R9700 graphics accelerator.
3.1.1.Operating systemrequirement
lIf yourOSisMicrosoft Windows,when loading the GV-R9700 driversforthe system,
pleasemakesureyoursystem(Windows98/98SE,Windows2000 orWindows
ME)hasinstalled DirectX8.1orlater.
lIf you install the GV-R9700 driversforthe motherboard,whichconsistofSIS,ALI
orVIAchipsets,pleaseinstall the appropriateDriverprogramforthatmotherboard.
OrpleasecontactyourmotherboardnearestdealerforM/BDriver.

3.1.2.DirectXInstallation
Install Microsoft DirectX8.1(orlaterversion)toenable3Dhardwareacceleration support
forWindows®98/98SE/Windows®2000 orWindows®MEtoachievebetter3D
performence.
MNote:ForsoftwareMPEGsupportinWindows®98/98SE/Windows®2000 or
Windows®ME,you mustinstall DirectX8.1(orlaterversion)first. (If yourOSis
Windows®XP,pleaseskipthissection.)
HereweuseDirectX8.1asinstallation example:
3.Click "Yes"icon.
2.Click "Yes"icon.
1.Install DirectXDriver:
Click "Install DirectX8.1"Item.

3.1.3.DriverInstallation
The following isthe step-by-step installation guide.
Step1:NewHardwareFound
AfterGV-R9700 isinserted intoyourcomputeratthe firsttime,the windowswill
automaticallydetectanewhardwareinthe systemand pop outa"NewHardwareFound"
message.Pleaseselect"Donotinstall adriver"and press OK.
Step2:UpdateDevice DriverWizard:StandardPCIGraphics Adapter(VGA)
Step3:UpdateDevice DriverWizard:Finish
Atthistime,systemwill ask foryourWindowsCD inordertocompletethe VGAdriver
installation.
If you don'thavethe CD,you can press C:\Windows\Systemdirectory.
Step4:SystemSetting Change
2.Click "Finish"icon.
1.Click "Next"icon.
MDon'tclick "Cancel",because the
systemwill hang ifyou press it.

Afterthe systemhasfinished loading,insertthe GV-R9700 driverCD disk intoyour
CD-ROM,and then you can see the AUTORUN window.If itdoesnotshowup,please
run "D:\setup.exe".

composed ofshortcuteofthe graphics card'senhanced and otherfunctions.
You mayclick the "DisplayProperties"item,and then click Settings.Click "Advanced"
afterclickng Settings.Click the appropriatetab tochange yourdisplaysettings.
Rightclick the icon.
