ability and footplate type fitted to your chair.
When lever is released the footplate will simply swing out and lift
off the two locating pins.
When refitting footrest to chair ensure that it is located on both
locating pins. Damage may result if only one pin is used.

styles.

move to desired position, retighten clamp bolt.
2. Incremental Hole Type - to adjust height simply un - do

otherwise ordered, is an incrementally adjustable support
strut. You will need either a 13mm open - end spanner or
socket spanner. Simply remove bolt, move to nearest hole
to suit desired position, replace and tighten bolt firmly.
5

2. Gas Operated Reclining Back Rest - to adjust angle simply
depress operating lever located on rear push handle, push
down on rear push handle to move to desired position,
release operating lever. This will lock backrest in position.
ADJUSTING THE SEAT ANGLE (TILT)

pedal, push down on rear push handle to move to desired position,
release foot pedal. This will lock seat in position.

brakes. To apply brakes simply press down on foot pedal. To
release, place foot under foot pedal and lift lever upwards. Ensure
brake is fully retracted.
ADJUSTABLE SEAT WIDTH AND DEPTH

growth and condition. It is recommended that a Glide

Note: When changes are made to either seat width or depth, new
upholstery will need to be supplied. Your Glide Rehabilitation

on these changes.
TYRES

COMFORT PLUS HI-CARE
Within the range of the Comfort Plus is the Comfort Plus Hi-Care
chair.
It has all of the same features and operating functions as the
standard Comfort Plus wheelchair as per the operating instructions
in this manual.
Unique to the Hi-Care are the following features:
Removable armrest padding
The armrest pads have a slip on style padded cover. These are
easily removed for cleaning (see Section 5 -Vinyl Care) or
replacement.
Adjustable Lateral Support Wings
The lateral support wings on the Hi-Care have three lateral
adjustments to cater for individual client needs.
To adjust remove top backrest upholstery attachment screw and
move wing to the desired position and replace screw. Note you
may need to loosen bottom attachment screw in order to move
wing.
Removable legrest padding
The Hi Care has two styles of legrest padding - single piece and
split.
In either case they are both held in place by the use of Velcro
straps that secure the padding around the legrest and footplate as
well as Velcro attachment under the seat.
To remove ensure that all straps are undone and that the underseat
attachment has been released - In the case of the split legrest
padding ensure that the central Velcro attachment holding each
side together has been released.
Removable headrest padding
The headrest padding is also removable for ease of cleaning or
replacement. (see Section 5 - Vinyl Care). To remove pull
headrest padding away from back upholstery.

SECTION 4. TRANSPORTING YOUR CHAIR
Transporting your Comfort - Plus Deluxe Chair in motor vehicles
can be easily achieved by the following methods.
STATION WAGON
The backrest folds down onto the seat by pulling out pins A, B,
and C (see Fig 2 below)
Note: Pins A & B are released by first pulling them out and then
twisting. They will then remain out allowing a free hand to release
Pin C. Support weight of backrest, slide Pin C bracket off
mounting spigot, lower backrest forward onto the seat. The
linkage system will allow the back to lie flat on the seat.
Caution: Make sure that Pins A, B & C are located correctly
in their respective holes prior to occupant use.
TRANSPORTING IN A SPECIAL WHEELCHAIR TAXI,
BUS OR PRIVATE VEHICLE WHILE THE USER IS IN
CHAIR.
To date there is no recognized Australian Standard that covers
wheelchairs suitable for vehicle transport while the user is in the
chair. However the Comfort Plus is suitable for transport
provided the appropriate tiedown brackets are fitted to the chair
and a 4 point restraint system (Unwin) is used. Where possible,
wheelchair occupants should be transferred into and use the
proper vehicle seat and restraints. However, if your chair is to be
transported in a vehicle, your vehicle restraint system must
comply with AS2942 –1994.
8

CAUTION : Do not use the Tilt and Brake Operating Pedals
as attachment points for your tie down system
Do not use legrests or footplates as attachment points for your
tie down system.
Do not use armrests as attachment points for your tie down
system.
Unoccupied wheelchairs in vehicles must be safely secured or
stored securely outside the passenger compartment.
Posture Positioning Belts should not be used as vehicle
restraint belts.
NOTE: Ensure that your restraint system complies with AS2942
and you fully understand the manufacturer instructions on how
your tie down system works and whether it is compatible with the
Glide Rehabilitation Products Comfort - Plus Deluxe Chair.

VINYL CARE
General Cleaning Instructions
To clean, wipe with a sponge or cloth, which has been moistened
in warm soapy water. Then dry with a clean cloth. Regular
cleaning (weekly) of headrests, armrests and seat cushions is
important to remove body oils, which can cause hardening of the
vinyl. More stubborn grime may require gentle scrubbing with a
soft brush.
Treatment of Specific Stains
•Prompt attention yields more complete removal
•wipe stain from ‘outside in’ to avoid spreading
•With more difficult stains use a proprietary brand vinyl
cleaner which is available in large supermarkets and
hardware stores.
Warning
Never use furniture polishes, abrasive cleaners, steel wool or non
proprietary cleaners containing solvents as these items can cause
damage to the vinyl surface.
Non colourfast dyestuffs found in some articles of clothing may
transfer dye to the fabric surface. Dye transfer to the surface of the
fabric is not recognized as a manufacturing fault.

SECTION 6. ENVIRONMENT PRECAUTIONS
The Glide Rehabilitation Products Comfort - Plus Deluxe
wheelchair has been designed with the user safety as it's prime
consideration.
Even though the Comfort - Plus Deluxe has been designed with
safety as it's prime consideration, this does not negate the effect or
take into account, circumstances, which put the wheelchair outside
the specified operating conditions for which it was designed.
It is important that the user takes due care and understands the
limitations within the environment that the chair will be operated.
As a guide only, the following is a brief list of scenarios that could
have an impact on occupant safety.
•When attendant is pushing chair, ensure that chair is slightly
tilted, this will help keep occupant positioned in seat.
•When leaving occupant unattended, ensure that Foot Operated
Attendant Brakes are applied.
•When parking chair on an incline, ensure that Foot Operated
Attendant Brakes are applied.
•If there is a concern for the occupant sliding forward out of
chair then a suitable posture-positioning device, may need to
be fitted. Consult your health professional for advice on
posture-positioning devices.
•Take care when accessing door thresholds. Changes in floor
height can stop castors and cause chair to tip.
•Never take your chair onto stairs or escalators
12

SECTION 7. TRANSFERRING TO AND FROM
YOUR WHEELCHAIR
The Glide Rehabilitation Products Comfort - Plus Deluxe Chair is
designed in such a way that transferring in and out can be done
with a minimum of fuss. Please be aware that there is a point
during transfer when the seat will not be underneath you. Please
take the following precautions when transferring
1. Armrests can either be dropped down or flipped back
(depending on type specified when ordering) allowing easy
lateral movement from either side of chair or for the fitting
of a patient hoist sling.
2. If occupant is ambulant, or able to do standing transfers,
removing swing away footplates will allow better
placement of feet when standing or conversely, closer
access to seat when transferring into chair.
3. Where possible have someone assist you during the
transfer.
4. You will need to learn safe transfer techniques from your
health professional.
5. Always have chair as close as possible to chair that you are
transferring to.
6. Ensure that the front castors are facing forward when
transferring.
7. If your chair is fitted with Gas Operated Seat Tilt or
Recline functions, ensure that they are in the down and
upright position before attempting to transfer.
8. Ensure that your wheelchair brakes are applied.
