NOTE: The fire is fitted with a safety device.
The information in Section 1 must be observed.
4.1 Lighting and Testing
Remove the pressure test nipple screw and fit a suitable
pressure gauge, see diagram 4.1.
Turn the gas supply on at the mains supply and at the gas
service cock.
To check for gas soundness, apply leak detection fluid to
all joints.
Switch on electrical supply.
Lighting the Fire
Air may be present in the supply to the fire so that the
initial lighting operation may need to be repeated.
Check all three methods of lighting the fire:
1. Remote Handset
2. Control Box
3. Manual Control
WARNING! Take care when doing the following
checks, as the burner has a naked flame.
WARNING! The hand control must be kept in your
possession whilst doing the following checks.
IMPORTANT NOTE
"Remote or Control Box" lighting method. If a flame is
not detected during the ignition period the control will
go to lock out. Press the OFF button to reset.
Method 1. - Remote Handset.
Fit the two batteries supplied in the fittings pack
into the remote handset.
Set switch to Auto, see diagram 4.1.
Point hand control towards the control box.
Press either the Low, Med or High button to light the
fire, then, wait for 20 seconds before selecting the
desired setting. Check all settings Low, Med and High.

IMPORTANT. IF DURING THE LIGHTING
PROCEDURE THE BURNER IS EXTINGUISHED OR
GOES OUT FOR ANY OTHER REASON, WAIT AT
LEAST 3 MINUTES BEFORE RELIGHTING.
REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO RELIGHT WITHOUT
THIS DELAY MUST NOT BE CARRIED OUT.
Method 2. - Control Box.
Press either the Low, Med or High button to light the fire,
then, wait for 20 seconds before selecting the desired
setting. Check all settings Low, Med and High.
IMPORTANT. IF DURING THE LIGHTING
PROCEDURE THE BURNER IS EXTINGUISHED OR
GOES OUT FOR ANY OTHER REASON, WAIT AT
LEAST 3 MINUTES BEFORE RELIGHTING.
REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO RELIGHT WITHOUT
THIS DELAY MUST NOT BE CARRIED OUT.
Method 3. - Manual Control
Set switch on control box to manual, see diagram 4.1.
Push in and keep in manual override spindle on gas
control, see diagram 4.1. Light the burner with a match or
spill, keep the control knob pushed in for about fifteen
seconds.
Using this method the fire will only work on Low setting.
IMPORTANT. If the burner goes out for any reason
wait at least three minutes before attempting to
relight.
Coal or Coke Lever
The aeration to the burner can be adjusted to give a
yellow Coal flame or a bluer Coke appearance.
To achieve these effects push the lever up for Coal effect
and down for Coke, see diagram 4.1.
Testing - Gas Soundness and Rate
With the burner lit, check all joints for gas soundness, at
all control positions, in accordance with the current issue
of BS6891.
Check that the gas pressure is as stated in the Data
Section or on the Data Label.
If there is any doubt about the gas rate, check at the meter,
having first turned off all other gas appliances and pilot
lights.
