*PH15models
*PH15 (M Series) Package Units are designed for outdoor
installationsonlyin either residential orlightcommercial ap-
plications and are available in 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4 & 5 ton sizes.
Theyaredesignedfor208/230 voltsinglephase applications.
The connecting ductwork (Supply and Return) can only be
connectedfor horizontal airflow.

tionwithinthereturnairduct.Theminimumfilterareashould
not be less than those sizes listed in the Specification Sec-
tion. Under no circumstances should the unit be operated
withoutreturnair filters.
A3/4"pipeisprovidedforremovalofcondensatewaterfrom
theindoorcoil.Inorder to provide proper condensate flow, a
drain trap is supplied and shipped loose inside the unit for
field installation. (Do not reduce the drain line size).

The object of the accumulator is to:
1. Providealiquidrefrigerantstoragevesselduringprolonged
system off cycles.
2. Storeexcessliquidrefrigerantnot needed by the system
whilerunning.
3. Return oil and saturated vapor to the compressor at a
controlledrate.
4. Retainstored excess refrigerant during a sudden system
pressure fluctuation such as seen in defrost cycles.
Refrigerant flow control is achieved by use of TXV. These
models use the FasTest Access Fitting System, with a
saddle that is either soldered to the suction and liquid lines
or is fastened with a locking nut to the access fitting box
(core)andthenscrewedintothesaddle.Donotremovethe
core from the saddle until the refrigerant charge has
beenremoved. Failureto doso couldresult in property
damage or personal injury.
Thesingle phase units use permanentsplit capacitor (PSC)
design compressors. Starting components are not required
for these units. A low microfarad run capacitor assists the
compressor to start and remains in the circuit during opera-
tion.

Theoutdoorfan motors are single phase capacitortypemo-
tors.GPH15 M seriesunitshave EEM indoor blower motors
that are energized by a 24V signal from the thermostat and
are constant torque motors with very low power consump-
tion.EEM motors featurean integral control module.
APH15models
Theoutdoorfan motors are single phase capacitortypemo-
tors on the APH15 models. APH15 units have ECM indoor
blowermotors thatareenergizedby alowvoltagesignal from
theinterface board. ECM motors are constant CFM motors
with very low power consumption. APH15 models are
equippedwithcompressor sound blankets.

Air for condensing (cooling cycle) or evaporation (heating
cycle) is drawn through the outdoor coil by a propeller fan,
and is discharged vertically out the top of the unit. The out-
door coil is designed for .0 static. No additional restriction
(ductwork)shallbeapplied.
Conditioned air is drawn through the filter(s), field installed,
across the coil and back into the conditioned space by the
indoorblower.
PackageHeatPumpindoorsectionsaredesigned to accept
optional components such as auxiliary electric heaters and
circuitbreakers. Provisions for thesecomponentshavebeen
madeat time of manufacture.
*PH15 series package units use the Compliant Scroll com-
pressor;there are a number of design characteristicswhich
aredifferentfromthetraditionalreciprocatingcompressor.
-DuetotheirdesignScrollcompressors are inherently more
tolerant of liquid refrigerant. NOTE: Even though the com-
pressor section of a Scroll compressor is more tolerant of
liquidrefrigerant, continued flood back or flooded startcondi-
tionsmay wash oil fromthebearingsurfacescausing prema-
turebearing failure.
-TheseScrollcompressorsuse"POE"orpolyolesteroilwhich
isNOT compatible withmineraloilbasedlubricants like 3GS.
"POE" oil must be used if additional oil is required.
- Compliant scroll compressors perform “quiet” shutdowns
thatallow the compressor to restartimmediately without the
needfor a time delay. This compressor will restart even if the
system has not equalized.
- Operating pressures and amp draws may differ from stan-
dard reciprocating compressors. This information may be
foundinthe“CoolingPerformanceData” section.
*PH15**M41* 42,48, 49 and 60modelpackageunitsuse a 2
stage scroll compressor. The basic scroll design has been
modified with the addition of an internal unloading mecha-
nism that opens a by-pass port in the first compression
pocket, effectively reducing the displacement of the scroll.
Theopening and closing ofthe by-pass port is controlled by
aninternalelectrically operated solenoid.
