Overview
ThisOperationandSafetyManualhasbeenpreparedtointroduceyoutotheGrangeGRPF10/15/20
PlanetaryMixers.Itexplainstheoperation,cleaningandmaintenanceofthesefoodmixersinsimple,clear
termsandwithanemphasisonyoursafety.Thesemixersarephysicallyandfunctionallyidenticalexcept
forthecapacityofthebowlsizesotheyarereferredtoas“mixer”inthismanual.
ThroughouttheManualproceduresaresupportedbyphotographsshowingthepartsinvolvedandthe
recommendedsafemethodofhandlingthoseparts.
MakesurethatyoureadthisManualcarefullysothatyouarefamiliarwiththefeaturesandprocedures
thatareuniquetothesemachines.
Conventions and Symbols used in this Manual
Toreduceconfusion,andtohighlightimportantpointsandsafetymatters,wehaveestablishedsome
standardtermsandsymbols:

thespeedoftheagitator.
•“bowllift”“bowllifthandle”Thisisthemechanismbywhichyouraiseandlowerthemixer
headintothebowl.
•TheSpecialNoteagThisisanupside-downtrianglewithanexclamationmarkinsideit.Itappears
intheleftmarginofthepage,likethis,wheneverwewanttodrawyourattentiontoanimportantpoint.
•The“NoHands”warningagThisisacirclewiththeoutlineofahandandablackbarthroughthe
hand.Itappearswhereverwewanttowarnyouthateither:youshouldn’tputyourhandsinornearapar-
ticularcomponent;orthatyoumustwearsteelmeshprotectiveglovestocarryoutaparticularprocedure.
•The“Power”warningagsTTherearetwopowerwarningags.Therst,alightningboltinsidean
upside-downtriangle,isusedwheneverwewanttoremindandwarnyouthatthemachineisconnected
tothemainspowersupply.Thesecondwarningagisacirclewiththeoutlineofa
lightningboltandablackbarthroughthebolt.Itappearstoremindyouthataparticular
proceduremustbecarriedoutwiththepowertothemachineturnedoffatthepower
pointandthemachine’spowerplugdisconnectedfromthepowerpoint.

Installingthemixer
Positioningtheslicer
Nomatterwhereyouputthemixer,youmustallowatleastasmuchspaceastheoveralldimensions
indicate.Allowinganadditionalminimumof30cmeithersideofthemixerwillmakeaccessforcleaning
andmaintenanceeasier.
Makesurethatthesurfacethatyouintendplacingthemixeronissolid,at,level,dryandsmooth.
Althoughitispossibletooor-mountthemixer,ideallythemountingsurfaceshouldbebetween40cm
and50cmhighforoperatorcomfort.
Electricalconnections
Themixerconnectstoeitherasinglephase240Voltsorthreephase380vaultspowersupplyusingthe
powercordsupplied.Simplyconnecttheplugontheendofthepowercordtothepowerpoint.
Cleaningandfunctioncheck
Beforeyouusethemixer,werecommendthatyouwipedownallexposedsurfaceswithasoftcloththat
hasbeenplacedincleanwarmwaterandlightdetergentandsqueezeddry.Thiswillremoveanytracesof
machineoil,dirtorgritpickedupduringmanufactureorstorage.
Beforeyouwipedownthemachine,makesurethatthepoweristurnedoffatthewall
socket/powerpoint.
Oncethemixeriscleanyoucancheckthatitisfunctioningcorrectly.
1.Switchonpowertothemachinefromthewallsocket/powerpoint.
2.Makesurethatthemixeristurnedoffatthepowerswitchonthesideofthemachine.
3.Ensurethatthebowlsafetycageiscorrectlyttedandthatthecageisclosed.
4.Checkthatthebowlcarriageandbowllifthandle/wheelmoveseasilyandthatit
doesn’tsticksatanypointalongitstravel.
5.Selectthelowspeed(1)settingonthespeedselector.
6.Turnthemixeronusingthepowerswitchonthesideofthemachine.Immediately
theagitatordrivewillspininananti-clockwisedirection.
7.Turnthemixeroffatthepowerswitch.

Operatingthemixer
Thingstokeepinmind
1.Alwaysdouble-checkthattheagitatorhasfullyengagedthelocatingpinontheagitator
driveshaftBEFOREswitchingonthemachine.
2.Therecommended,andonly,safewayofchangingthespeedofthemixeristostopthemachine
andthenselectthedesiredspeed.DONOTattempttochangespeedwhilethemixerisrunning.
3.Alwaysmatchthemixingspeedtothefoodstuffbeingmixed.Thegeneralrule-of-thumbisthatthe
heavieranddensertheingredients,theslowerthemixingspeed.
4.Whenamixingjobiscompleted,besuretoleavethebowlsafetycageopenandthebowlliftinthe
loweredposition.Thismakesiteasiertostartthenextjobandleavesthemachinewithallitssafety
interlocksengaged.
5.Itisusuallyeasier,andsafer,tollthemixingbowlatthemachine.
Standardoperation
1.Fillthemixingbowlwiththerequiredingredients.
2.Selectandtthecorrectagitatorforthejob.
3.Raisethebowlusingthebowllifthandle.
Turnthebowllifthandleclockwisetoraisethebowlonthebowlcarrieruntilitreachesthecarrierstop.
4.Closeandlockthebowlsafetycage.
Thiswilldisengagethesafetycut-outandallowthemachinetorun.
5.Selecttheappropriatemixingspeedusingthespeedselector.
Tomovethespeedselectorfromonepositiontoanother,graspthehandleoftheselectorand
depressthebuttonontheendofthehandlewithyourthumb.Thisunlockstheselector.
Movetheselectortotherequiredspeedandreleasethebuttontolockthehandleinthatposition.
6.Turnthemachineonusingthepowerswitch.
7.Whenmixingiscompleted,switchoffthepoweratthepowerswitch,unlockthesafetycage,lower
thebowlbyturningthebowllifthandleanti-clockwiseuntilitreachesthelowercarrierstop,and
eitherremovethebowlorremovethemixedcontentsofthebowl.
Changingorttinganagitator
1.Makesurethatthemachineisswitchedoff.
2.Grasptheagitatorrmlyandturnitclockwisetodisengagethetoolfromthelocatingpinonthe
agitatordriveshaft.Drawtheagitatordownthedriveshaft.Ifnoagitatoristted,gotoStep3.
3.Slidetheselectedagitatorontothedriveshaft,liningupthechannelonthetopoftheagitator
shankwiththelocatingpinonthedriveshaft.
4.Continuetoslidetheagitatorupthedriveshaftuntilthelocatorpinreachesthebaseofthe
“L”–shapedslotintheshank.Turntheagitatoranti-clockwisetolockthetoolontotheshaft.

Cleaningthemixer
Thissectiondealswithcleaningyourmixer.
Werecommendthat,beforecleaningormaintenancetasksareundertaken,themachineoperator(s)
receivesometrainingfromtheirsupervisor,preferablyduringtheinstallationphase.
Beforecarryingoutcleaningormaintenancetasks,itisimportantthat
powertothemixerisdisconnectedatthepowerpoint.
GeneralCleaning
Themixerhasbeendesignedandbuiltforefcientandspeedycleaningtoensurehygienicoperation.
Beforeusingthemixer
1.Beforethemixerisswitchedonforthersttimeeachday,quicklywipeoverallexposed
surfaceswithacloththathasbeenplacedinwarmwaterandsqueezeddry.
Thisremovesanydustorothermatterthatmayhavebeendepositedovernight.
2.Beforethestartofeachmixingoperation,andwiththemixerswitchedoffatthepower
switchonthesideofthemachine,wipeouttheinsideofthemixingbowl,theagitator
andtheagitatordrivetoremoveanyresidualmaterialleftfromthelastmixingoperation.
Aftereachmixingjob
1.Removethebowlandagitatorandwashthoroughlyinwarmwaterandmilddetergent.
2.Wipedownexposedportionsofthemachinewithacloththathasbeenplacedinwarm
waterandmilddetergentandsqueezeddry.Besuretocleanoffanyfoodstuffthatis
stucktothemachine
Attheendoftheday
1.Afterthemixerhasbeenusedforthelasttime,turnthemachineoffatthepowerswitchandatthe
powerpoint,anddisconnectthepowercord.
2.Turnthebowllifthandleanti-clockwisetolowerthebowlcarriertoitslowestposition.Ifthebowlis
stillinplace,removeitandsetitasideforcleaning.
3.Openthebowlsafetycageandremovetheagitatorfromtheagitatordrive.Setitasideforcleaning.
4.Withacloththathasbeenplacedinwarmwaterandmilddetergentandsqueezeddry,wipedown
allvisiblesurfaces.
5.Placethebowland agitatorsinwarmwaterandmilddetergentandwashthoroughly.
How frequently the mixer is cleaned will depend on how heavily the machine is used. However, we
recommend that you adopt a cleaning schedule daily as a MINIMUM requirement to maintain hygiene.

Maintenance

Werecommendthat,beforecleaningormaintenancetasksareundertaken,
themachineoperator(s)receivesometrainingfromtheirsupervisor,preferably
duringtheinstallationphase.
Beforecarryingoutcleaningormaintenancetasks,
itisimportantthatpowertothemixerisdisconnected
atthepowerpoint.
RoutineMaintenance
Therobustdesignofthemixermeansthatthereisverylittlerequiredin
thewayofroutinemaintenance.Generally,theonlymaintenancerequired
iscleaning(discussedintheprevioussection).
Cleaning
Normalcleaning,asspeciedintheprevioussectionisallthatis
requiredtomaintaintheexternalsurfacesofthemixer.
Werecommendthatyoucleanthemachinepriortoanyother
maintenanceoperationsothatallsurfacesarefreeofdirtandgrease.
Thismakesthemachineeasierandsafertohandle.
