INSTRUCTIONS
These instructions give the procedure for assembling the 5000Series tractor. All reference to right side, left
side, front and rear are given from the operator's position.
The wheel assemblies are not with the tractor. Get wheel assemblies as needed.

HOW TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS
Tighten the bolts used to assemble the 5000
Series
tractor to the torque given in the bolt
torque specifications unless shown differently.

Remove the nut and the bolt that fastens the
instrument panel to the support tube on the
right side of the tractor. See figure 2.0-1.

NOTE: The handlebar that has "FWD" and "REV"
on the decal is the right side handlebar.
The handlebar that has the "GEAR
SHIFT" on the decal is the left side
handlebar.

2.0 HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE TRACTOR
A WARNING: Use caution when removing the
straps that hold the tractor to
the pallet.
INOTE:
If the tractor has an electric starter,
remove
the battery. Give service to the
battery as shown in the Battery Service
instructions included with the battery.

bolt and nut that was removed in step 1. See
figure 2.0-2.

Remove the nut and bolt from the support
tube on the left side. Put the other handlebar
into the support and fasten the handlebar in
position with the bolt and nut.
Install
the control rod that is straight on the
control rod extension on the right side. See
figure 2.0-3.

Tighten the jam nut on the control rod ex-
tension against the control rod.
Install
the control rod that has the bend on
the control rod extension on the left side.

Connect the control rod to the control lever
with the clevis pin. Fasten the clevis pin in
position with the cotter pin. See figure 2.0-4.

10. Fasten
the throttle control lever to the
handlebar on the left side with the 10-24 x
1-1/2" machine screws and the 10-24 lock
nuts. See figure 2.0-7.

AWARNING: Connect the battery cable for
the positive "+" terminal first.
13. Check the level of the lubricant in the engine
and the transmission.
14. Adjust the air pressure in the tires to 18 psi
(1.3
kg/cm
2
).
3.0 HOW TO INSTALL THE REMOTE AIR
CLEANER
NOTE: All tractors are not equipped with a
remote air cleaner.
1. Fasten the air cleaner bracket to the
instrument panel with the three 3/8" x 1"
bolts and the 3/8" lock nuts. See figure 3.0-1.

Install the wheel assemblies on the wheel
hubs.
12. If the tractor has an electric starter, install
the battery.

Fasten the air cleaner housing bracket and
the air cleaner support to the air cleaner
bracket with the 3/8" x 1-1/8" bolts and the
3/8" lock nuts. See figure 3.0-2.

3. Fasten the air cleaner support to the air
cleaner housing with the four washers and
1/4" lock nut.
4. Fasten the hose to the bottom of the air
cleaner
housing with the hose clamp.

NOTE: All tractors are not equipped with aquick
hitch pin.

HOW TO ADJUST THE DIRECTION
CONTROL CLUTCH
1. Loosen the jam nuts on each side of the e
actuating lever. See figure 5.0-1.

Fasten
the quick hitch pin to the attachment
adapter with the four 3/8" x 2-1/4" bolts and the
lock washers. See figure 4.0-1.

2. Use
your hand to push the actuating leverall
the way
toward the rear.

3. Adjust the inside jam nut on the front side of
the lever so that the direction control lever
will be 15 degrees beyond the vertical
position. towards the rear of the tractor.
4. Tighten the outside jam nut against the
inside jam nut. Do not move the inside jam
nut.
5. To adjust the forward clutch, push the
direction control lever all the way forward.
Make sure the direction control lever goes
into a holding position.
6. Adjust the inside jam nut until there is a
clearance of .010" (.254 mm) between the
coils of the large spring.
7. Tighten the outside jam nut against the
inside jam nut. Do not move the inside jam
nut.
6.0 HOW TO ADJUST THE GEAR SHIFT
CLUTCH
1. Loosen the jam nuts on each side of the
actuating lever. See figure 6.0-1.

2. Push the gear shift lever forward to the
"HIGH" position.
3. Adjust the inside jam nut behind the
actuating lever until there is aclearance of
.010" (.254 mm) between the coils of the
spring.
4. Tighten the outside jam nut against the
inside jam nut. Do not move the inside jam
nut.
5. Pull the gear shift lever backward to the
"LOW" position.
6. Adjust the inside jam nut in front of the
actuating lever until there is a clearance of
.010" (.254 mm) between the coils of the
spring.
7. Tighten the outside jam nut against the
inside jam nut. Do not move the inside jam
nut.
