components that make up the attraction. The Swing Boats ride is made up of the following:

There are 4 Swing Boats each with the capacity to take one adult and one child seated facing towards each
other. Access to the boats in the static position is by a single step situated to the side of the Swing Boat.

The 4 boats are supported and hung from a metal ‘A’ frame assembly that is securely bolted to the concrete
base of the ride area.
E1.3 surrounding area
The Swing Boat ride is designed to be surrounded by a ‘Pickett’ style fence which is positioned in such a
manner that any person or persons in the vicinity are unable to come into contact with the swing boats in
operation.
The Swing Boat ride has a foot print area of 3M x 4.25M in the static mode and 5M x 4.25M in the full
operational mode.
It is recommended that the ‘Pickett’ style fencing be positioned a minimum distance of 2M at any point from
the Swing Boat operational area. It is essential that the ‘Pickett’ fence is of a substantial design so as to be
able to withstand persons falling against it without collapsing.
E2 Notices & Signs
There should be signs placed in appropriate positions to enable all staff, riders and spectators to observe the
rules and procedures of the safe operation of the Swing Boat attraction.

a) Normal Operational Cycle
The following operational cycle is a step-by-step guide:
1. Users approach the Swing Boat ride and are guided through to the embarkation area.
2. The embarkation area is located through an opening in the Pickett fence and is a
contained area close to the swing boats but sufficiently far removed so as to prevent
person(s) coming into contact with a moving boat.
3. It is recommended that no boat be operated whilst users are embarking or
disembarking from any of the boats.
4. If any boats are unoccupied and boats are in operation then embarkation to the static
boats should only be undertaken at the conclusion of a ride or by causing the
occupied boats to come to a halt.
5. Similarly disembarkation procedure should mirror embarkation procedure.
6. The operator should note that whilst the Swing boat is an old style simplistic
attraction the close proximity of a heavy swinging object to person or persons has to
be addressed with serious safety in mind at all times.
