1. General information
Read this document before you install the
product. Installation and operation must
comply with local regulations and accepted
codes of good practice.
Read the installation and operating
instructions for the relevant CIM module.
1.1 Hazard statements
The symbols and hazard statements below may
appear in Grundfos installation and operating
instructions, safety instructions and service
instructions.
DANGER
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, will result in death or serious
personal injury.
WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, could result in death or
serious personal injury.
CAUTION
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, could result in minor or
moderate personal injury.
The hazard statements are structured in the following
way:
SIGNAL WORD

• Action to avoid the hazard.
1.2 Notes
The symbols and notes below may appear in
Grundfos installation and operating instructions,
safety instructions and service instructions.
Observe these instructions for explosion-
proof products.
A blue or grey circle with a white graphical
symbol indicates that an action must be
taken.
A red or grey circle with a diagonal bar,
possibly with a black graphical symbol,
indicates that an action must not be taken
or must be stopped.
If these instructions are not observed, it
may result in malfunction or damage to the
equipment.

2. Product introduction
2.1 Product description
SMART Digital CHEMPAIRING Suite 3.0 (SDCS) is a Grundfos cloud-based solution used to control and
monitor a Grundfos SMART Digital DDA dosing pump and the related dosing process. It can monitor chemical
container tank level without a level sensor. See section Intended use for more information.
The SDCS CIU (Communication Interface Unit) gateway serves as an interface for cellular (3G/4G)
communication between the Grundfos SMART Digital CHEMPAIRING Suite 3.0 cloud solution and the installed
SMART Digital dosing pump. The monthly SDCS 3.0 subscription price already includes the cost of data
transfer.

2.2 Intended use
If the equipment is used in a manner not
specified by the manufacturer, the
protection provided by the equipment may
be impaired.

‐Do not use the SDCS CIU gateway
and the dosing pump in areas with
explosive risks, such as explosive
gases or dust.
The SDCS CIU gateway is designed for use with a
Grundfos DDA-AR-C or DDA-FCM-C (production
date 04/2023 or later) dosing pump up to 30 l/h in all
material variants.
Due to the preinstalled eSIM card, the SDCS CIU
Gateway can be operated in the following countries:

2.3 Applications
SMART Digital CHEMPAIRING Suite 3.0 and the
SDCS CIU gateway can be used in the
following stationary dosing applications:
• manual dosing
• proportional dosing (pulse)
• proportional dosing (analog 0/4-20 mA).
One SMART Digital DDA dosing pump per SDCS CIU
gateway can be used in the above listed dosing
applications in non-explosive areas.
Typical applications are dosing of biocides in drinking
water, dosing of corrosion inhibitors or cooling tower
applications.
Due to the occupancy of the GENIbus port at the
DDA, no other CIU/eBox (e.g. fieldbus) can be
connected.

3. Receiving the product
3.1 Inspecting the product
Before installing the product, do the following:
1. Check that the product is as ordered.
2. Check that no visible parts have been damaged.
3. If parts are damaged or missing, contact your
local Grundfos sales company.

3.2 Scope of delivery
The packaging contains the following items:
• Grundfos SDCS CIU gateway with integrated CIM
280 cellular communication module (3G/4G) with
preinstalled eSIM card, see section Intended use
for more info
• fixation bracket
• preinstalled 5 m (16.4 ft) M12 communication
cable to the DDA dosing pump
• preinstalled 3 m (9.8 ft) antenna cable with
magnetic foot antenna
• preinstalled 3 m (9.8 ft) power cable with Schuko
(CEE 7/7) for SDCS CIU EU or Type B (NEMA
5-15P) plug for SDCS CIU US
• 1 QR code sticker on top of the SDCS CIU
gateway cover to identify the complete dosing

2.2 Intended use
4. Installation requirements
4.1 Location
Install the product at a location that meets the
following requirements:
• The SDCS CIU gateway is designed for a
stationary installation place.
• The SDCS CIU gateway is designed for flexible
mounting on a suitable suspension point. This
must have sufficient load-bearing strength.
• The product must be easily accessible but the
connected cables must not pose a trip hazard.
• Install the product at a location safe from flooding.
• Make sure that the ambient temperature and
humidity are within the limit.
• Make sure that the voltage supply is within the
limit and there is a suitable wall power plug.
• Install the SDCS CIU gateway as close as
possible to the dosing pump.
• Neither of the already connected cables must be
extended or shortened.
• There must be no chemically aggressive vapors,
explosive gases or dust (non ATEX) where the
product is installed.
• Constant and stable 3G/4G coverage is required
in the installation room.
• Before installation, confirm whether medical
devices in the installation environment permit the
use of cellular equipment.

4.2 Mounting requirements
Install the product in a way that meets the following
requirements:
• We recommend to mount the product on a
drywall. Other wall types are also applicable,
providing they have sufficient load-bearing
strength.
• Assess the suitability of the wall to ensure that it
withstands the forces generated.
• Use a screw or a nail suitable for your wall and
intended load.
• The recommended minimum parameters of the
screw are the following:
Screw head diameter 7.6 mm (0.3")
Nominal length 40 mm (1.6")
Shank diameter 4 mm (0.16")
• Make sure that there is at least 4 mm distance
between the wall and the screw head.
The screw for the wall is not included.

to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a residential installation. This
equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio
frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. However, there
is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a
particular installation. If this equipment does cause
harmful interference to radio or television reception,
which can be determined by turning the equipment off
and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the
interference by one or more of the following
measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separation between the equipment
and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit

5. Mechanical installation
5.1 Mounting on the wall

fit into the unit and support its weight.

‐Do not unscrew or loosen the blind
plugs, the cable glands, or the lids. The
ingress protection may be lost.

1. Mount the SDCS CIU gateway with the bracket
keyhole on a suitable suspension point.

The SDCS CIU gateway is designed to be
mounted on a wall with its bracket by hand.
Mount the unit in a way that the cable glands face
downwards.
Install the SDCS CIU gateway in a way that no
loads are or can be applied to the preinstalled
cables.
