Gunbox SK-1 Initial Set-up

4
Remove the nuts on the bottom of the Gunbox SK-1, (these should only be hand tight). You may need to use the
large Hex Key provided to hold the bolts on the inside from turning while removing the nuts.
The base plate should be tightly wrapped and secured in the bottom of the shipping box. Unwrap the base plate.
With the help of another person, carefully lift the baseplate to the bottom of the Gunbox SK-1. Align the base
plate so that the rubber bumpers are away from the Gunbox SK-1 body and the holes in the base plate are aligned
with the bolts coming from the bottom of the Gunbox SK-1. Make sure that the hole in the middle of the base
plate lines up with the bolt coming from the back of the Gunbox SK-1.
Using the large Hex Key provided, screw the 2 large bolts into the base plate and tighten (Note: if the bolts are not
tightened down properly, the Gunbox SK-1 may wobble from side to side). Stand the Gunbox SK-1 onto the base
plate.
Remove the plastic inserts around the latch screws so that it can latch correctly.

5
Opening the SK-1 with RFiD
Press the front white emblem on the Gunbox SK-1, and a blue LED will begin to flash.
With the blue LED flashing, place one of the preprogrammed RFiD tags that came with the Gunbox SK-1 up close to
the front white emblem and the Gunbox SK-1 should open.
Closing the SK-1
The Gunbox SK-1 has a dual latching system for added security. To be completely secure, both latches need to
lock. In order to consistently close the Gunbox SK-1, it is important that it is closed from the middle of the Gunbox
SK-1 using 2 hands as shown below.

6
Press firmly on the Gunbox SK-1 until you feel both top and bottom latches close. Warning: If the Gunbox
SK-1 is latched with only the top or bottom latch, it will not be as secure.

7
Downloading the App
There is a free App provided for configuration of your Gunbox SK-1 with a version for both iOS and Android
phones. To download the App, go to the iTunes Store or the Google Play store, depending on your device, search
for SafeTech (no spaces) and download the SafeTech App.
When you first open the App, you will need to accept all permissions (if asked), accept the End-User Agreement
and choose a name before you can connect to the Gunbox SK-1.
App Install and Use

8
Connecting with Bluetooth
To connect the Gunbox SK-1 to the App, press “Add Device” on the App and then press the front white emblem on
the Gunbox SK-1. The blue LED will begin to flash on the Gunbox SK-1 and then turn solid when the phone
connects to the Gunbox SK-1. Within 15 seconds, a dialog box will pop up asking for a password. The default
password for the Gunbox SK-1 is 12345678. It is recommended that you change the password immediately.
(Warning: the password is only stored on the Gunbox SK-1 and on the App. If the App is removed or replaced, the
password will be deleted from your phone and must be reentered. If you forget your password, the SafeTech
support team will not be able to recover it for you. To recover your password, you will need to send in your
Gunbox SK-1 to be reprogrammed. This service is not covered under warranty). If the App gets stuck verifying the
password, refer to the next section about pairing the Gunbox SK-1 to your phone.
Pairing the Gunbox SK-1 to a Phone
For many phones the pairing step is completed by the phone automatically. If you are having trouble getting the
App to verify your password the first time you are using the App, it may because the Gunbox SK-1 is not properly
paired to your phone. To pair manually, open the App, press the front white emblem on the Gunbox SK-1 and
press “Add Device” on the App. Once the password dialog box pops up, pull down your phones Notification screen
by swiping from the top of the screen down. Look for a pairing request in the notifications. To pair, you will need
to select the notification and then press “Pair.”You should now be able to type in the password and continue to
the App Unlock screen.

9
Reconnecting with the App
Once you have connected the Gunbox SK-1 to the App, it should connect automatically every time. To reconnect,
open the App to the Home screen, ensure that Bluetooth is on and press the front white emblem on the Gunbox
SK-1. The Gunbox SK-1 will then connect automatically and take you to the Unlock screen. You will not need to
press “Add Device”again or reenter your password.
Unlock Password
There is an additional password option on the App that further secures the Gunbox SK-1 with an additional 4-digit
code. To enable this feature, press the slide below Password Enabled. A dialog box will pop up instructing you to
enter a password. Enter a 4-digit password and press “Save.”The slide under Password Enabled will show orange,
and now after you press “Unlock,”the App will now require that you enter the 4-digit code before the Gunbox SK-1
opens up. To turn off this feature, press the slide under Password Enabled again and enter the 4-digit password.

10
Adjusting Settings through the SafeTech App
There are a number of settings that can be adjusted on the SafeTech App. To access these settings, connect the
Gunbox SK-1 to the App. Once connected, press the settings cog in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and
you will be taken to the Settings screen.
User Name
The User Name is the name the Gunbox SK-1 uses to identify that your phone has opened the Gunbox SK-1. This is
identified in the History Log, see History Log below. To make a change, press “User Name,”type in a different
name and press “Save.”

11
Device Name

change, press “Device Name,”type in a different name and press “Save.”
History Log
The History Log shows a log of the last 100 openings of the Gunbox SK-1 using RFID, Fingerprint or the App. You
WILL see a few logs once you receive your Gunbox SK-1. These logs are generated by our Quality department to
ensure functionality. To access the log, press “History Log” (Note, names will only be visible for App openings and
for RFID tag names stored on the phone being used to view the History Log. Fingerprint openings do not show
names in the log. Openings that are not associated with a name will show up blank in the middle column).

12
LED Timeout
There is an LED on the inside of the some of the Gunbox products. The Gunbox SK-1 does not have this feature.
RFID Tag Management
RFID tags can be added to the Gunbox SK-1 using the App. To do this, press “RFID Tag Management”to get to the
RFID Tag Management screen and then press “Add New Tag.” The Gunbox SK-1 will begin to beep twice
repeatedly with a brief pause between each pair of beeps, the blue LED on the Gunbox SK-1 will begin to flash and
the App will display the message, “Place a New RFID Tag on the Lock to Add it.” Within 5 seconds, place an RFID
Tag/Card directly over the white emblem to record that tag. You will hear 6 rapid beeps and the blue LED will flash
rapidly to indicate that the card has been recorded to the Gunbox SK-1. The RFID tag will also appear on the RFID
Tag Management screen. A name can be added next to the Authorized Tag ID each time an RFID tag is added. The
App will indicate “time out” on the bottom of the screen if the tag was not read in time. To remove a tag, press
the “-“ sign in the Delete column next to the tag you wish to remove and press “Yes”when the Warning screen
comes up on the App.

13

password again and press “Save.”The App will display the message, “Your Password has Been Changed
Successfully.” The old password can no longer be used to access the Gunbox SK-1.
Share Code
You can allow another person to open your Gunbox SK-1 at specific times or for a specific number of openings
using a Share Code. To do this, press “Share Code” to open the Share Code screen. To give access a specified
number of times, enter an 8-digit code on the top section and select the number of uses allowed. Once the
Gunbox SK-1 has been opened using the Share Code for the specified number of uses, the Share Code will no
longer work to open the Gunbox SK-1, unless permission has been given again by you. To give access on a specific
date and/or a specific time of day, enter an 8-digit code in the bottom section and enable Dates and/or Time to set
a specific date and/or time that the Share Code will be authorized to open the Gunbox SK-1. To access the Gunbox
SK-1 using a Share Code, a temporary user will need to download the SafeTech App and connect to the Gunbox SK-
1 the same way as the primary user, however, instead of using the password to connect to the Gunbox SK-1, they
will use the Share Code provided.

14
Alarm
The Gunbox SK-1 has both a Silent and an Audible alarm. The Silent Alarm will cause the front white emblem to
blink red with no sound. The Audible Alarm will cause the front white emblem to blink red with a loud beeping
sound. To enable this feature, press “Alarm” from the setting screen. On the Alarm screen, you can select Silent
Alarm or Audible Alarm. You will also need to set the Delay Time. The Delay Time is the number of minutes it will
take for the alarm to set AFTER you have closed the lid. If the Gunbox SK-1 is tampered with during the Delay Time,
the alarm will NOT be set and you will need to WAIT the allotted Delay Time in which you SET before it will arm. Be
sure to press “Save” to set the alarm. Once armed, any tampering or movement of the Gunbox SK-1 will
IMMEDIATELY set off the alarm.

15
Fingerprint
IMPORTANT- The fingerprint reader takes a picture of your fingerprint during programming. As fingerprints
change over time and because of weather changes throughout the year, we recommend you reprogram your
fingerprint every 4 months. This will ensure that your Gunbox SK-1 reads your fingerprint properly each time.
Fingerprints can be programmed to the Gunbox SK-1 from the App. To do this, press “Fingerprint” from the
Settings screen. On the Fingerprint screen you can see how many Fingerprints are stored, Learn New Fingerprints,
Remove All Fingerprints, or adjust the fingerprint reader settings with Sure Set to help it read your fingerprint
more easily. (Note: adjusting the fingerprint reader to read your fingerprints more easily will also slightly increase
the risk that the fingerprint will identify an unauthorized fingerprint as an authorized one, giving unintended
access to the Gunbox SK-1). To learn a new fingerprint, press “Learn new Fingerprint.” The Gunbox SK-1 will start
to beep twice in a row with a brief pause in between each set of beeps and the fingerprint reader will glow blue on
the Gunbox SK-1. Place your finger over the blue Fingerprint Reader LED and the Gunbox SK-1 will rapidly beep 3
times when it has read. Lift your finger and repeat 2 more times. When recorded, the Gunbox SK-1 will make 6
rapid beeps, and the App will indicate that your fingerprint has been stored to the Gunbox SK-1. (Note: since the
fingerprint reader uses a small camera to take a picture of your fingerprint. You will need to hold your finger
steady for 1-3 seconds while the fingerprint reader captures the image).

16
Removing the Gunbox SK-1 from your App
You can remove the Gunbox SK-1 from your App. To do this, press “Remove: (Gunbox SK-1 Name)” on the Settings
screen. Press “Yes”on the warning pop up and the Gunbox SK-1 will be deleted. To add the Gunbox SK-1 again to
the App you will need to press “Add Device” on the Home screen and connect to the Gunbox SK-1 as you did
originally.

There are a few other options available on the side menu. To access these options, press the button in the top left
hand corner of the screen and a menu will slide from the left. From this menu you can view the devices you have
previously connected to the App. These devices can also be removed from the App. There are also links to
purchase more devices and to receive support for your devices.

17
Programming an RFID Tag without the App
The RFID tag can be programmed without the App. To do this, press the front white emblem on the front of the
Gunbox SK-1 and the blue LED will begin to flash (If the Gunbox SK-1 is plugged in, the blue LED will already be
illuminated and you will not need to press the button for this step). Scan a tag that is already programmed to the
Gunbox SK-1. (Note: the Gunbox SK-1 will open after scanning the tag). Immediately press the front white emblem
again. The Gunbox SK-1 will begin to beep twice repeatedly with a brief pause between each pair of beeps, and
the blue LED on the Gunbox SK-1 will begin to flash, Within 3 seconds, place an RFID Tag/Card directly over the
front white emblem to record that tag. You will hear 6 rapid beeps and the blue LED will flash rapidly to indicate
that the card has been recorded to the Gunbox SK-1.
Programming a Fingerprint without the App
IMPORTANT- The fingerprint reader takes a picture of your fingerprint during programming. As fingerprints
change over time and because of weather changes throughout the year, we recommend you reprogram your
fingerprint every 4 months. This will ensure that your Gunbox SK-1 reads your fingerprint properly each time.
A fingerprint can also be programmed without the App. To do this, press the front white emblem on the front of
the Gunbox SK-1 and scan a tag that is already programmed to the Gunbox SK-1 (If the Gunbox SK-1 is plugged in,
the blue LED will already be illuminated and you will not need to press the button for this step). (Note the Gunbox
SK-1 will open after scanning the tag). Immediately press the front white emblem and the Gunbox SK-1 will start
to beep. It will repeatedly beep twice in a row with a brief pause in between each set of beeps. The fingerprint
reader will glow blue on the Gunbox SK-1 and the LED on front white emblem will blink blue again. Place your
finger over the blue Fingerprint Reader LED and push down; the Gunbox SK-1 will rapidly beep 3 times when it has
read. Lift your finger and repeat 2 more times. When recorded, the Gunbox SK-1 will beep rapidly 6 times, to
indicate that your fingerprint has been stored to the Gunbox SK-1. (Note: since the fingerprint reader uses a small
camera to take a picture of your fingerprint. You will need to hold your finger steady for 1-3 seconds while the
fingerprint reader captures the image.)
Using the Bluetooth Speakers
The Bluetooth speakers function separately from the App. You will not be able to access any speaker functionality
from the App. The Bluetooth speakers will also not function if the Gunbox SK-1 is not plugged in, as they require
too much power for the battery to handle.
To use the speakers, plug in the Gunbox SK-1 (if it is not already plugged in). On your phone, go to the Bluetooth
settings. Make sure that your phone has the Bluetooth turned on. On the Bluetooth Settings screen, you will be
able to search for nearby Bluetooth devices. Find the device called “Gunbox SK-1” and connect. Once connected,
the Gunbox SK-1 will chime. You can now go into the music player and begin to play music from your phone. The
volume level of the Gunbox SK-1 is controlled by your phone as well.
Charging the SK-1
The Gunbox SK-1 has a back-up battery for all functions besides the Bluetooth Speakers (for the Bluetooth
Speakers to work, the Gunbox SK-1 needs to be plugged in). The Gunbox SK-1 can work for up to 1 year without
charging. If the Gunbox SK-1 runs low on battery, it will flash blue and red when you press the front white
emblem. To charge the battery, simply plug the charger that came with the Gunbox SK-1 into the back of the
Gunbox SK-1. (Note: using a different charger than the one that came with your Gunbox SK-1 may damage the
Gunbox SK-1 and void your warranty)

Securing the SK-1 to the Floor
The Gunbox SK-1 can be secured to the floor. To maintain cosmetic appearance, there are no predrilled holes in
the base. To secure to the floor, determine where you want the holes located on the Gunbox SK-1 base plate and

loosen the screw in the center of the bracket using a Philips screwdriver. Move the bracket to your desired
location and tighten the screw again.
Applying Leather Accessories
You can purchase a number of accessories for the Gunbox SK-1. These accessories include a 4.5in tall pocket, a
6.0in tall pocket, a shotgun shell holder, and a handgun holster. To apply these accessories to your Gunbox SK-1,
locate where you want the accessories to go on the inside of the Gunbox SK-1. Make sure that you provide room
for your firearm to be removed easily from the holster. After selecting the desired location, remove the backing
strip from the accessories
