1 Introduction
With telephone from the EuroPhone Basic f mily, you h ve decided in
f vour of powerful ISDN telephone th t gives you e sy ccess to the
speci l fe tures of digit l telephony.
This user's guide describes two different versions of the EuroPhone Basic:
EuroPhone Basic 10 E sy-to-oper te high-convenience
ISDN telephone
EuroPhone Basic 20 S me s EuroPhone Basic 10, but lso offering
connection of n n log termin l

2 General
2.1 About this user's guide:
The ch pter entitled "General" f mili rises you with the fe tures of your
new telephone. You find out everything you need to know bout keys, the
displ y, tones, connections nd commissioning.
In the ch pter entitled "Telephoning", ll oper tions before nd during
telephone c ll re described nd you find out how to ccept c ll nd
wh t h ppens if you do not ccept it. Here, you will lso find notes on how
to use further functions th t require previous progr mming.
The ch pter entitled "Programming" describes the v il ble possibilities of
setting nd progr mming the telephone.
In the ch pter entitled "Emergency operation", you find out how the tele-
phone re cts to power f ilures nd how to m ke your telephone oper te in
n emergency.
The ch pter entitled "The analog port" cont ins both det ils of configur -
tion nd oper tion of the n log termin l. This n log connection port is
only provided on the EuroPhone Basic 20.
Operator control steps
Oper tor control steps re shown in the form of t bles. Beginning with
cert in initi l st te, the sequence is numbered consecutively.
If ltern tive selection possibilities re v il ble in individu l steps, these re
indented nd re preceded by dotted line, nd begin with "or" or "if
necessary".
In words, the text column describes the ctivity to be c rried out, nd

oper tor control step described in the line concerned.

Example configuration
To improve underst nding, this user's guide refers to telephone th t
h s n ex mple configur tion. You should not find it difficult to rel te n
"im gin ry MSN" from this user's guide to your ctu l MSN.
Definition:
MSN is the common bbrevi tion for "Multiple Subscriber Number". For
your ISDN connection, your network c rrier h s given you sever l of these
numbers, nd you c n ssign them to your telephone s follows:
EuroPhone Basic 10 – MSN 1 – 8
EuroPhone Basic 20 – MSN 1 – 4 for the ISDN telephone
MSN 5 – 8 for the n log port

2.4 Start up
The EuroPhone Basic is connected to n ISDN S0DSS1 point-to-multipoint
connection or to corresponding telecommunic tions system.
Note: Ple se note th t the S0bus must be termin ted on both ends with
2 x 100 Ohm.
Location
Avoid pl cing the telephone in the direct proximity of other electronic devi-
ces such s HiFi units, office m chines or microw ve units, thus ruling out
mutu l influences. Do not pl ce the telephone close to he t sources such
s r di tors.
Tod y's furniture is co ted with v stly diverse mount of l cquers nd
pl stics nd is tre ted with diverse c re gents. Therefore, it c nnot be
ruled out th t some of these subst nces m y cont in components th t will
be ggressive to the telephone's pl stic feet nd will soften them with the
result th t they le ve behind unple s nt tr ces.
Connecting
Connect the h ndset to the housing with the coiled h ndset cord. Insert the
end with the shorter uncoiled portion in the socket on the h ndset. Then
connect the telephone to the telephone network by me ns of the telephone
connecting le d. The telephone st rts with displ y test, during which time
ll pixels nd pictogr ms re displ yed for bout 10 seconds. You c n now
m ke telephone c lls.

Establishing and undoing a plugged connection
Insert the plug into the socket so th t the locking
c tch points in the direction of the corresponding
cut-out in the socket. Push the plug into the socket
until it udibly locks.
To undo plug-in connection, press the locking
c tch in the direction of the plug nd pull out the
plug t the s me time.
Initial programming
Although your telephone is immedi tely oper ble fter connection to the
telephone network, you should first d pt it to your specific needs by pro-
gr mming.

2.5 Digit and character input, editing
The digit keys h ve du l function. If the telephone expects you to enter
telephone number, then the digits printed on the keys pply. When you
enter n mes in the telephone book, the keyp d switches over utom tic lly,
with the result th t the letters/ch r cters on the keys lso pply. The let-
ters/ch r cters printed on the keys re rec lled by pressing the ppropri te
key sever l times. To displ y the letter "C", for ex mple, you must press the
key 2thrice. If the next letter you wish to enter is on key other th n the
l st one, the cursor utom tic lly moves forw rd by one position. If it is on the
s me key, you c n either move the cursor one position to the right by pres-
sing the #key or you c n w it until it moves utom tic lly fter bout 1.5
seconds.
For ex mple, you must press the following keys to enter the n me OTTO:

In the editing mode, you c n move the cursor to the left with the id of ±

2.6 Tones
Acoustic signals when telephoning:
• You he r the di l tone when you lift the h ndset when the telephone is
idle or when you press the h nds free key.
• The ringing tone sounds when the c lled connection is v il ble.
• The busy tone sounds when the connection you re ringing is busy.
• The c mp-on busy tone dvises you of nother pending c ll during
convers tion.
• Tone ringing sign ls c lls with the preset melody nd volume.
Acoustic signals during operation and programming:
• The positive cknowledgement tone confirms correct input.

3.1 Outgoing call
A c ll c n be est blished with or without on-hook di lling. On-hook di lling is
understood to consist of entering digits without seizing line (the h ndset is
on-hook nd no di l tone c n be he rd). Here, you h ve possibility of
ch nging the telephone number bec use you h ve not yet sent the di lling
inform tion.
It is lso possible to define the MSN to be used before di lling nd to switch
identific tion on or off. The l tter is only possible, however, if this fe ture is
v il ble t the loc l connection.
Besides m nu l di lling, it goes without s ying th t stored telephone numbers
from the c ll list, the telephone book or the redi l memory c n lso be used,
nd these c n lso be combined (ch ined) nd edited.
3.1.1 Di
lling (with line seizure)
When you seize line (Aor ö), you c n initi te di lling by m nu lly ente-
ring digits or by retrieving stored telephone number. In this c se, it is not
possible to modify entered digits. Incorrect di lling s the result of n incor-
rectly entered digit c n only be corrected by Bor t, i.e. the connection is
c ncelled.
It is only possible to ch nge the MSN to be used (see 3.1.3) or to switch
over the identific tion (see 3.1.4) before di lling the first digit.

In m ny c ses, it is better if you enter or put together the telephone number
before you seize line. In ddition to the di lling methods mentioned bove,
you then lso h ve opportunity to edit or correct the telephone number. The
di lling inform tion is not sent until you either lift the h ndset (A) or press

Before you di l the telephone number, you h ve possibility of selecting
your own multiple subscriber number (MSN) for the connection, e.g.
"Priv te" or "Business". The MSN you use c n then be displ yed on the
destin tion subscriber's displ y. Incurred c ll ch rges re lso ssigned
to this MSN.
