Speedlight
• Attach Speedlight to <hot shoe> 10 oftheViperTTL
receiver. Using the slide switch 16 selectoneofthe
groupA,BorCforthisreceiver.Turnon12 the Viper
TTLreceiverwhichwillgiveagreenashinglight 11
to indicate power is on. Turn on the Speedlight. Press
<Test> button 15 onreceivertoconrmSpeedlightis
working
• Using the cable socket 14 a studio light can be
connected to the Viper TTL receiver via a “Hähnel
Studio Light Cable” which is available as a separate
accessory
• UnlimitednumbersofSpeedlights/studiolightswith
ViperTTLreceiverscanbeallocatedtooneordifferent
groups
• For “Nikon” version, set the Nikon Speedlight to <i-TTL>
mode
Camera
• MounttheViperTTLtransmitterontothehot-shoe of
thecameraandlockitintoplace.TurnontheViper
TTLtransmitterandthecamera.Press <Test> 08
buttonontransmittertoconrmSpeedlightistriggered
• Press buttons Aor Bor Cto change the MODE
settingofeachgroupto<M>manual,<TTL> TTL or
<blank> OFF
• Take a test photograph now and the Viper TTL
transmitterwillsendawirelesssignaltoeach
Speedlight connected to a Viper TTL receiver and to
each Modus 600RT. The Speedlights will be set to
themodeselectedforeachgroupontheViperTTL
transmitter
The Viper TTL LCD 5willshowthesettingofeachgroup
• AgroupisturnedOFFiftheLCDisnotshowingthegroup
• AgroupisinManualmodewhen<M> is displayed next
to the group
• A group is in TTLmodewhen<TTL> is displayed next to
the group
Each group Aor Bor Cis set independently and it is
possibletousesimultaneouslydifferentsettingforeachgroup
(e.g. Group Amaybein<M>, Group Bin <TTL> and
Group Cturned OFF)

Group Power Control setting for
Manual and TTL FEC
FromtheViperTTLtransmitteryoucanadjustthepower
levelofeachgroupwhichisin<M>mode
1. Press <SEL> 02 select button and all three icons A,
Band Cwillash
2. Press one button Aor Bor Cto select which group
you want to adjust the power. Now only the selected
group icon Aor Bor Cwillash
3. Turn the red <Adjust Dial> 03 up or down to adjust
the power level
4. Theoutputpowercanbeadjustedfrom1/128to1/1by
turning the red <Adjust Dial> 03 up or down
5. Press <SEL> 02 again to save the new power level
FromtheViperTTLtransmitteryoucanadjusttheFEC
levelofeachgroupwhichisin<TTL>mode
1. Press <SEL> 02 select button and all three icons A,
Band Cwillash
2. Press one button Aor Bor Cto select which
group you want to adjust the FEC level. Now only the
selected group icon Aor Bor Cwillash
3. Turn the red <Adjust Dial> 03 up or down to adjust
the FEC level
4. The icon < >willbeshownwhentheashexposure
compensationamountischanged.Turingthered
<Adjust Dial> 03 upwillincreasetheFECtomax+3.
Turing the dial 03 downwillreducetheFECtomin-3
5. Press <SEL> 02 again to save the new power level
• Thepowerlevelofastudiolightcannotbecontrolled
wirelessbytheViperTTL.Adjustthelevelmanuallyfrom
the studio light controls
• ThesettingofeachgroupintheViperTTLwillremaineven
iftheViperTTListurnedofforneedsbatteriesexchanged
• Manual output power setting < -- >. In this power output
level the Viper TTL will not control the power level this can
beadjustedontheSpeedlight.Itisrecommendedtouse
thissettingfornoncompatibleSpeedlightswhichdonot
allowpowercontrolviatheViperTTLwirelesssystem

FromtheViperTTLtransmitteryoucaneasilyadjustthe
outputpowerlevelandFECsettingforallgroups
1. Press <SEL> 02 buttonformorethan3secondsand
allpowerlevels/FECsettingsofgroupsA,B,Cwillash
2. Turn <Adjust Dial> 03 toadjustsimultaneouslyall
power levels/FEC settings up or down to the new
desired value
3. Then press <SEL> button 02 to save the setting

only available when used with the hahnel Modus 600RT

High Speed Sync
Press and hold button Bto switch on high speed sync -
the icon 20 will switch on. High speed sync applies to all
groupsatthesametime.
• For“Nikon”versionensurealsothatthecamerasettingis
set to 1/320’s (Auto FP) or 1/320’s (Auto FP). Both Viper
transmitterandCameramenumustbesettoHSS.Refer
tocameramanualformoreinfo.

Second Curtain Sync
When the high speed sync icon 20 is switched on, press
and hold button Bagain to switch on second curtain
sync - the icon 21 will switch on. Second curtain sync
appliestoallgroupsatthesametime
Toreturntonormalsync,pressandholdbutton Bagain,
until the icon 21 switchesoff
• For “Nikon” version, the Second Curtain Sync (Rear-
curtainsync)isnotcontrolledfromtheViperTTL.To
enableSecondCurtainSyncsetinthecameramenuto
Rear-curtainsync.Refertocameramanualformoreinfo
Always On
Press and hold the <SEL> 02 button and keep it pressed
whileyouswitchonthetransmitter.Thebatteryindicator
(23 willash.TurnAdjustDial03 until Always ON 22 is
displayed. Now turn OFF and ON 01 again to enable the
AlwaysONfeature.WhenAlwaysONtheViperTTLis
permanentlytransmittingasignal.
Battery Level
• ThetransmitterLCDshowsthelevelofthebatteryfor
thetransmitter23
• To check the receiver battery level, check LED 11
whichashesgreentoindicatenormalpower

in hot shoe 07 .ASpeedlightttedtothishotshowwill
operate as Group AforCanonversionandGroup Mfor
Nikon version.
• For the Nikon version group (M) is controlled by the
settingofthecameraandnotcontrolledbyanyofthe
Viper TTL groups
DCM Digital Channel Matching
• Open channel -WhenyouusetheViperTTLforthe
rsttime,the2.4GHzwirelessconnectionisusinga
default“openchannel”.Thisallowsseveraltransmitters
toindividuallycontrolthesameselectionofreceivers.
The“openchannel”canbeusefulwhenusingseveral
cameraswiththesamelightingsystem.Butitisalso
morepronetootheroutsideinterferences
• DCM -DigitalChannelMatchingisamoresecure
codedwirelesssystemwhichwillavoidanyexternal
interferencebetweenViperTTLtransmitterand
receiver.Carryoutthefollowingsetuptomatchall

• Now hold down receiver <Test> button 15 and turn ON
receiver and continue to hold down button 15 formore
than 5 sec. LED 11 willchangefromrapidashingto
always ON. Receiver is now “open channel”

E-TTLori-TTLcompatible,thensetswitch 16 to Group
“C”whilstperformingtheresetoftheReceiverto“open
channel”. This allows 3rd party Speedlight’s to be triggered
