OPERATION
•Connect the electrode to the meter
with both writings (meter and elec-
trode) facing upwards and turn the
meter on.
•Dip the probe in the
sample to be measured.
Under no circum-
stances the immersion
shall be above the max.
level indicated above.
Stir gently until the dis-
play shows a stable
reading. PICCOLO will
automatically compen-
sate for the temperature variation.
•When testing a new sample, it is
recommended to rinse the probe
with some of the sample itself prior
to measurement. This prevents like-
lihood of cross-contamination.
•When not in use, switch the PIC-
COLO off.
CALIBRATIONCALIBRATION
CALIBRATIONCALIBRATION
CALIBRATION
•Slide down the probe to access
the calibration trimmers and turn
the meter on.
•Dip the probe in a
pH 7.01 buffer solution
(HI 7007HI 7007
HI 7007HI 7007
HI 7007). Allow the
display to stabilize and
using a small screw-
driver slowly turn the pH
7 Calibration Trimmer to
read “7.01”.
•To perform a two point calibration,
if you are measuring acidic liquids
use a pH 4.01 buffer (HI 7004HI 7004
HI 7004HI 7004
HI 7004),
and for alkaline mea-
surements use a
pH 10.01 buffer
(HI 7010HI 7010
HI 7010HI 7010
HI 7010).
•Rinse the electrode in
water and dip it in the
second buffer. Allow
the reading to stabi-
lize and using a small
screwdriver turn the
pH 4/10 Calibration
Trimmer to read
“4.01” or “10.01” re-
spectively.
•The calibration is now
complete. Return the
probe to its normal
position.

MAINTENANCE
If the probe remains dry for a long
time, it is necessary to reactivate it
by immersing it in a storage solution
(HI 70300HI 70300
HI 70300HI 70300
HI 70300) for 4 hours before use.
The probe should be rinsed with plenty
of water after use.
BATTERY REPLACEMENTBATTERY REPLACEMENT
BATTERY REPLACEMENTBATTERY REPLACEMENT
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
When PICCOLO cannot be switched
on or the display segments fade, it is
necessary to replace all 3 x 1.4V
batteries.
Batteries should only be replaced in
a safe area using the battery type
specified in this instruction manual.
Loosen the upper
screw and slide off the
cover on the back of
the meter. Replace all
three batteries while
paying attention to their
polarity.
Reinsert the cover and tighten the
screw.
It is recommended to recalibrate the
instrument whenever the batteries are
replaced.

Recommendations for Users
Before using this product, ensure that it is entirely
suitable for the environment in which it is used.
Operation of this instrument in residential areas could
cause unacceptable interference to radio and TV
equipment. The glass bulb at the end of the elec-
trode is sensitive to electrostatic discharges. Avoid
touching this glass bulb at all times. During opera-
tion of the instrument, ESD wrist straps should be
worn to avoid possible damage to the pH elec-
trode by electrostatic discharges. Any variation in-
troduced by the user to the supplied equipment
may degrade the instrument’s EMC performance.
To avoid electrical shock, do not use these instru-
ments when voltage at the measurement surface
exceeds 24VAC or 60VDC. To avoid damage or
burns, do not perform any measurement in micro-
wave ovens.
