MAINTENANCE

Periodically inspect the entire product for damaged,
missing, or loose parts such as screws, nuts, bolts, caps,

GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Avoidusing solvents when cleaning plasticparts. Most
plasticsaresusceptibletodamagefromvarioustypesof
commercialsolventsandmaybedamagedbytheiruse.Use
cleanclothstoremovedirt,dust,oil,grease,etc.
WARNING:
Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petro-
leum-basedproducts,penetratingoils,etc.,comeincon-
tactwithplasticparts.Chemicalscandamage,weakenor
destroyplasticwhichcanresultinseriouspersonalinjury.
LINE REPLACEMENT
See Figure 8.
Useoriginalmanufacturer’sreplacementlineforbestper-
formance.
Stop the engine or motor, disconnect the spark plug
wireforgaspowerheads,removethebatterypackfor
cordless power heads, or disconnect the plug from the
powersourceforelectricpowerheads.
Rotatethebumpknobclockwiseasnecessarytoalign
the arrows on the bump knob with the arrows on the
stringheadhousing.
Cutonepieceoftrimmerline10ft.long.Inserttheline
intotheeyeletonthestringheadhousing.Pushuntilthe
endofthelinecomesouttheothersideofthehousing.
Pullthelineuntilequalamountsoflineappearonboth
sidesofthehousing.
NOTE: Linemayjamifmorethan10ft.isloaded.
Rotate the bump knob clockwise to wind the line on the
spooluntilapproximately6in.oflineisshowingoneach
side.
Pushthe bumpknob downwhile pullingon line(s)to
manuallyadvancetheline.
CLEARING LINE JAM AND/OR REPLACING
BUMP KNOB

Stop the engine or motor, disconnect the spark plug
wireforgaspowerheads,removethebatterypackfor
cordless power heads, or disconnect the plug from the
powersourceforelectricpowerheads.
Depress the tabs on the side of the string head housing
toremovethelowerstringheadhousing.
NOTE: Thehousingisspringloadedandwillselfeject
whenthetabsaredepressed.Itisnotnecessarytore-
movetheupperstringheadhousingfromthedriveshaft.
Pushthespoolandbumpknobthroughthestringhead
housingandremovethestringfromthespool.
Ifreplacingthebumpknob,removetheoldknobfrom
thespool.Aligntheknobribswiththespoolslotsand
placethenewbumpknobontothespool.Ifyouarenot
replacingthebumpknob,skipthisstep.
Insertthebumpknobandspoolassemblythroughthe
openinginthestringheadhousing.
Aligntheslotsonthelowerstringheadhousingwiththe
tabsontheupperstringheadhousing.
Pushthehousingtogetheruntilthetabssnapintoplace.
NOTE: Hold the spool by the knob while completing the
installation.

ATTACHING THE STORAGE HANGER
See Figure 12.
Therearetwowaystohangtheattachmentforstorage.
To use the hanger cap, push in the button and place the
hangercapovertheendoftheattachmentshaft.Slightly
rotate the cap from side to side until the button locks into
place.
The secondary hole in the attachment shaft can be used
forhangingpurposesaswell.
