Please read and observe this Instruction Manual before each
use! In the event that the wheelchair changes owners, please
supply this Instruction Manual to the new owner!
Harvest Healthcare Ltd recommends that this
manual is kept with the chair at all times.
Please observe the following advisory notices.
Please check all fixings on chair at least once a month.
Before using the wheel chair we recommend that you adjust the
footplates to suit the occupant. It is very important that you se-
curely tighten the lock nut after this adjustment and before use.
The maximum user weight or mass for the HMS300B Self Pro-
pel Wheelchair is 120Kg (18 3/4 Stone).
Do not exceed this limit!
Under no circumstances should the footplates be used as a
step to get in or out of the wheelchair. The footplates should be
folded away to allow the service user to enter or exit the wheel-
chair.
The wheelchair must not be used without the footrests and foot-
rest strap being in place
Using the wheel rims to propel or steer the chair could result in
injury to the user.

USER GUIDE FOLDING WHEELCHAIR
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU READ
AND
UNDERSTAND THEINSTRUCTIONS BEFORE
ATTEMPTING ASSEMBLY OR USE OF THIS
WHEELCHAIR.
BEFORE USING THE WHEELCHAIR EN-
SURE THAT YOU DO NOT EXCEED THE 120KG
WEIGHT CAPACITY.
INTRODUCTION
The HMS300B Wheelchair is quality checked
and tested before leaving the factory. However
it is important you check that all parts are in-
cluded in the package, and that no damage has
occurred to the wheelchair whilst in transit.
Check that all nuts and screws are correctly
fastened before use.
The package contains:
• HMS300B Wheelchair
•RH Footrest
• LH Footrest
•Heel strap
• Spanner and hexagon key
Remove all packaging from the chair, and dispose
of it in accordance with local waste regulations.
ASSEMBLY
Open the chair by pulling the armrests apart until
the seat section is horizontal and fully extended.
In this position, and with all wheels in contact
with the ground, fit the RH and LH footrests. As
fig. 1 line the footrest bracket up with the pins on
the wheelchair leg bracket, place footrest bracket
over the pins using the holes in the bracket. The
footrest will now swivel on the pins, see fig. 2,
swivel it towards the back of the wheelchair until it
locks in to place, see fig. 3. Whilst locating the
footrest take care to keep your fingers clear of
the wire spring, which holds the lock bracket in
place.
Fold the footplates down until they are horizontal.
Before using the wheel chair we recommend
that you adjust the footplates to suit the occupant.
Do this by loosening the lock nut and sliding the
footrest up or down. It is important to allow
enough clearance between the footrest and the
ground to avoid colliding with obstructions, kerbs,
etc. It is very important that you securely tigh-
ten the lock nut before use.

Fig 5.
Fit the foot rest strap as shown in fig. 4, by unfas-
tening the hook/loop then placing the band
around the footrest vertical leg tube and re-
fastening the hook/loop fastener. This strap stops
the wheelchair user’s feet from going under-
neath the chair seat when in movement. It is im-
portant that the wheelchair is not used
without the footrest strap being in place, see
fig. 4.
The HMS300B Wheelchair is now ready for use.
USE OF THE WHEELCHAIR
The occupant of the wheelchair can use the hand
rails fitted to the wheels to propel the chair,
using either wheel to steer in the desired direc-
tion. It is important that only the hand rails are
used to propel the chair. Using the wheel rims
to propel or steer the chair could result in in-
jury to the user.
Alternatively the handles on the backrest of the
chair can be used to push the chair along. In the
backrest there is a pocket for medical or other
documents that may accompany the occupant.
There are stepper tubes, with foot grips to allow
the person pushing the chair to raise the front of
the chair to negotiate kerbs etc.
If the wheelchair is stationary the wheelchair
parking brakes should applied to stop the wheel-
chair moving. To apply the brake, move the
lever towards the front of the wheelchair until it
locks into place against the wheel. Repeat on the
other side of the wheelchair so both wheels are
braked. Release the parking brakes on both
wheels before attempting to move the chair .
They can be released by pulling the brake lever
towards the rear of the wheelchair, see fig.5.
The brake movement or pressure can be
adjusted by loosening the lock nut fixing the
brake to the wheelchair frame, then moving it to
the required position. It is important to check the
effectiveness of the brake whilst the wheel-
chair is unoccupied and before use.

USER GUIDE continued FOLDINGWHEELCHAIR
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Wheelchair users, both occupants and attendants,
should be instructed in the safe use of the product
before first use.
We recommend that the parking brakes be applied
before the occupant sits in the chair to prevent chair
movement.
The footrests should be in the upright position when
the chair is unoccupied and whilst the occupant is get-
ting in or out of the chair. This will make it easier for
the occupant to have a stable foothold before trans-
ferring their weight forwards. Under no circums-
tances should the footplates be used as a step to
get in or out of the wheelchair.
It may be a dangerous to attempt to pick things up from
the ground when occupying the wheelchair. Users
should ask for assistance or use a proprietary tool or
handling device.
When maneuvering the wheelchair on slopes, care
must be taken to assess the steepness and to eva-
luate whether the wheelchair will become difficult to con-
trol when moving.
Care must be taken when an operator tips the
wheelchair to negotiate a kerb or step, the chair must
not be tipped back beyond its point of balance, as this
will mean the "pusher" having to bear the weight of the
wheelchair and its occupant.
Always ensure that either the occupant or the op-
erator has sufficient strength to control and op-
erate the wheelchair.
Never use the parking brake to reduce or control the
rolling speed of the wheelchair as this will endanger
the occupant.
Never use the wheelchair unless the footrests are in the
correct, horizontal position, to support the occupant's
feet whilst the chair is in motion or use.
The maximum user weight or mass for the HMS300B
Self PropelWheelchair is 120Kg (18 3/4 Stone).
Do not exceed this limit!
CARE OF THE WHEELCHAIR
Always ensure that the wheelchair is dried after use to
prevent corrosion.
The wheelchair should be regularly washed using warm
water and a mild detergent Dry thoroughly after
washing.
Before use always inspect the wheelchair to ensure:
• There is no evidence of cracks/ damage.
• There are no splits in the seat /back support material
•There are no loose fixings, screws or nuts.
. The foot plates and brakes operate correctly
The wheel nuts must be regularly checked to make sure
they are secure, a spanner and hexagon key are pro-
vided for this purpose.
Between uses the wheelchair can be folded for storage.
By pushing upwards with the hand under the seat panel
and applying pressure to the arms or wheels, the chair
will fold to approximately half its width. Make sure the
footrests are in the upright position before attempting
this.
A seat belt can be fitted to the wheelchair if required
(not supplied).
The Self Propel Wheelchair has been tested and certi-
fied in accordance with CE requirements and
ISO EN 12183.
