Theheater canbe mounted onany ofthe following sur-
face:
1. Aflat surface(minimum 6mm base).
2. Four(4) cornersupports.
(Example: Four (4) concrete masonry blocks). These
supportsmust be positionedso they contact all four (4)
perimeter edges on the bottom of the unit.
Heaterframing can bebuilt before or after the heater is
set in place. Framing should be positioned to accom-
modate wall covering and heater facing material. The
heaterframing should beconstructed of2 inch X4 inch
(51 x 102mm) lumber or heavier. The framing headers
mayrest on the heater standoffs. Refer toFigure 2 and
Figure3 forheater andframing referencedimensions.

1.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
In planning the installation for the heater it is neces-
saryto determine where the unit is to be installed, the
type of flue system to be used (straight out, corner, or
elevated), and whether optional accessories (wall
switchorremote control)are desired. Gassupply pip-
ingshouldalsobe planned.Refertotheappliance data
plate on the base pan of the heater for all gas pres-
suresand input rateinformation.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
This model is designed to operate with all com-
bustion air being siphoned from the outside of the
building and all exhaust gases expelled to the
outside of the building.
WARNING: THIS UNIT IS NOT FOR USE WITH
SOLID FUEL.
TheseunitsMUSTusetheflueterminationdescribed
in the flueing section of the manual.
The control system for this model is an electronic igni-
tiontype.It consistsof a gascontrol valve/variable regu-
lator, a pilot/sensor/electrode and an ON/OFF switch.
The controls are located behind the access door. Ro-
tate the door down to open. See Figure 1.
Minimuminlet gas supplypressure for purposeof input
adjustment is 4.5 inches w.c. (1.13kPa) for natural gas
and11inchesw.c.(2.75kPa)for propane.Manifold(out-
let) pressures should be set at 3.5 inches w.c. (.8kPa)
fornatural gasmodelsand 9.5inches w.c. (2.36kPa)for
propanemodels.

Thesemodels haveflue starting collarson boththe top
and the back of the unit. Depending upon the installa-
tion, decide which ONE set of starting collars will be
usedto attach theflue system. Thestartingcollarsealing
cap must remain on the starting collar NOT used.
Thesemodels useSL-D-series directflue components
whenusing theTOP flue collarsand DVP-series direct
flue components when usingthe REAR fluecollars.
WARNING: YOU MUST NOT MIX DVP-SERIES
AND SL D-SERIES COMPONENTS IN ANY FLUE
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION.
Approved flue system components are labeled for
identification. NO OTHER FLUEING SYSTEMS OR
COMPONENTS MAY BE USED. Detailed installation
instructions are included with each flue termination kit
andshouldbeusedinconjunctionwiththismanual.Figure
5belowshowsfluesystemcomponentsandterminations.
Identifying Flue Components
The flue systems installed on this gas fireplace may
include one, two, or three 90°elbow assemblies. The
relationships of vertical rise to horizontal run in flue
configurations using 90° elbows MUST BE strictly
adhered to. The rise to run relationships are shown in
theflueing drawingsand tables onthe next fewpages.
WARNING:THIS GASAPPLIANCEAND FLUEAS-
SEMBLY MUST FLUE DIRECTLYTO THE OUTSIDE
AND MUST NEVER BE ATTACHED TO A CHIMNEY
SERVINGA SEPARATE SOLID FUELBURNING AP-
PLIANCE. EACH GAS APPLIANCE MUST USE A
SEPARATE FLUE SYSTEM-COMMON FLUE SYS-
TEMSAREPROHIBITED.
CAUTION: UNDER NO CONDITION SHOULD
COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL BE CLOSER THAN 3
INCHES (2 1/2 INCHES (64MM) AT WALL FIRE-
STOPS) FROM THE TOP OF THE PIPE OR 1-INCH

SECTIONS OF THIS FLUE SYSTEM. VERTICAL
SECTIONS OF THIS SYSTEM REQUIRE A MINI-

Installing Flue Components
Afterdeterminingwhichsetofstartingcollarswillbe
used (top or rear), follow flueing instructions
accordingly.
Flueing Out the Rear Flue
Remove the rear collar seal cap by cutting the
strap at each end (see Figure 17).
Next, remove the insulation from the rear flue, pull
the heat shield out from outside of the heater.
WARNING: THE TOP FLUE COLLAR
SEAL CAP MUST REMAIN ATTACHED
TO THE TOP FLUE COLLAR IF THE FLUE
SYSTEM IS ATTACHED TO THE REAR
STARTING COLLARS. SEE FIGURE 17.
Flueing Out the Top Flue
Remove the top collar cover plate. Remove the
seal cap and both pieces of insulation in the top
collars (see Figure 17). Remove the heat shield
inside the top collars from the outside of the
heater.

Installing Flue Components
A. On the REAR of the heater
1. Attachingthe First FlueComponent to the Start-
ing Collars:
Toattachthefirst flue component to thestartingcollars
on the rear of the heater:
• Make sure that the flue gasket supplied with the
heater seals between the first flue component and
theouter heaterwrap.
• Slidethe male end ofthe inner flue of the pipe sec-
tionover the innercollar on theheater.At the same
time,slide theouter flueover the outer collar onthe
heater.Push theflue section into the appliancecol-
laruntilall thelances (seeFigure18) havesnapped
in place. Tug slightly on the flue to confirm that it
has completely locked into place.

2. Assembling Flue Components
Inserttheinner flueofsectionAinto theflaredinner flue
of section B.
Start the outer flue of section A over the outer flue of
section B (see Figure 19). Note: The end of the pipe
sections with the lances/tabs on it will face towards
theappliance.
Onceboth innerand outerflues arestarted, presssec-
tionAonto sectionBfirmlyuntilall lances havesnapped
into place. Check to make sure they have snapped
together(seeFigure 20)andthe seamsare not aligned
(see Figure 21). Tug slightly on sectionAto confirm it
has completely locked into place.

2. Continue Adding Flue Components
To continueaddingfluecomponentsinaccordancewith
thepre-planned flue system configuration:
• Ensurethat eachsucceeding fluecomponent isse-
curely fitted and locked into the preceding compo-
nent in the flue system.
For elbows that are changing the flue direction, two
screws minimum should be put in the outer flue at the
jointto prevent the elbow from rotating.
3. Install Support Brackets
For Horizontal Runs - The flue system must be
supportedevery five (5)feet (1.5m)of horizontalrunby
ahorizontal pipe support.
To install support brackets for horizontal runs:
• Place the pipe supports around the flue pipe.
• Nail the pipe supports to the framing members.
• Whenthe internal beadsof each outerpipe line up,
rotatethe pipe section clockwise aboutone quarter
(1/4) turn. The flue pipe is now locked together.
• Slidethe ceramicfiber pad overthe firstflue section
and place it flush to the fireplace. Continue to add
ventcomponents.

B. On the TOP of the heater
1. Attaching the First Flue Component to the Start-
ing Collars:
Toattachthe firstflue componentto the startingcollars
on the top of the heater:
• Lock the flue components into place by sliding the
concentricpipesections withfour(4)equally spaced
interiorbeads into theheater collar or previously in-
stalledcomponent end with four (4) equally spaced
indentedsections.
NOTE:MakesurethatseamsareNOT alignedtoprevent
unintentionaldisconnection.
For elbows that are changing the flue direction, two
screws minimum should be put in the outer flue at the
jointto prevent the elbow from rotating.

For Vertical Runs
Theflue systemmust be supportedevery eight(8) feet
(2.4 M) above the heater flue outlet by wall brackets.
To install support brackets for vertical runs:
• Attachwall brackets to the fluepipe and securethe
wall bracket to the framing members with nails or
screws.

4. Install Firestops
For Horizontal Runs - Firestops are REQUIRED on
bothsides ofa combustiblewall through whichthe flue
passes.
To installfirestops(heat shield)for horizontalruns that
passthrough either interior or exterior walls:
• Cut a 10-inch by 12-inch (254 mm X 305 mm) hole
throughthe wall.
• Positionthe firestops onboth sides ofthe hole pre-
viously cut and secure the firestops with nails or
screws.
• Thepipe opening of the firestopsMUST BE placed
towards the bottom of the firestop.
• Continuethe flue runthrough the firestop.

For Vertical Runs - One firestop is REQUIRED atthe
hole in each ceiling through which the flue passes.
To install firestops for vertical runs that pass through
ceilings:
• Positiona plumb bobdirectly over thecenter of the
verticalflue component.
• Mark the ceiling to establish the centerpoint of the
flue.
• Drill a hole or drive a nail through this center point.
• Checkthe floorabove forany obstructions, suchas
wiringor plumbingruns.
• Reposition the heater and flue system, if neces-
sary, to accommodate the ceiling joists and/or ob-
structions.
• Cut a 10-inch X 10-inch (254mm X 305mm) hole
throughthe ceiling, usingthe firestop pipe opening
as a guide.
• Frame the hole with framing lumber the same size
as the ceiling joists.
