How should I clean/disinfect the non-optical surfaces
of my HRT3 / HRT3 RCM?
Important Note:
Clean and disinfect the non-optical surfaces of the device with a moist, not wet, cloth.
Do not use products containing acetone or hydrogen peroxide.
When the device is not in use, protect the objective with the objective cover, and protect
the device with the dust cover.
Cleaning:
For cleaning, any standard cleaning product appropriate for plastic and metal
surfaces which does not contain acetone or hydrogen peroxide may be used.
Disinfection:
In the USA, Heidelberg Engineering recommends Metrex CaviWipes®or other EPA registered
disinfectants with comparable active substances. Outside the USA, Heidelberg Engineering
recommends Descosept AF wipes, mikrozid® AF wipes, or comparable wipes with antibacterial,
antiviral, and antifungal effects. Follow the instructions of the disinfectant wipes manufacturer.
Do not use products containing acetone or hydrogen peroxide.
Cleaning the microscope lens of the HRT3 RCM:
The microscope lens of the RCM is a water-immersion objective. It only needs to be cleaned with
distilled water as it has only contact with water-soluble eye gel
and never touches the patient‘s eye.
Heidelberg Engineering recommends cleaning the microscope
lens of the RCM after each use:
Remove the TomoCap after each examination and dispose it.
Clean the microscope lens of the RCM with a cotton swab
moistened with distilled water.
TomoCaps for use on HRT3 RCM:
HRT3 RCM uses sterile, single-use TomoCaps for rotation-free contact between the patient’s cornea
and the microscope lens. The TomoCaps are delivered in a sealed package. For the use of Tomo-
Caps, we recommend the following:
Do not use TomoCaps with damaged packaging because the TomoCap is no longer sterile and
may carry the risk of infections.
Do not re-use TomoCaps to avoid the risk of infection of the cornea. Put a new TomoCap on the
microscope lens when examining the patient’s eyes, using one TomoCap for each examined
eye. Remove the TomoCap after each examination and dispose it.
Do not touch the anterior surface of the TomoCap that has contact with the patient’s eyes.
Use sterile gloves while putting the TomoCap on the lens.
Do not dispose the TomoCaps with regular household garbage. Dispose them with the
infectious waste of your clinic or practice, ensuring local regulations for infectious waste.
You can find more information in the package insert of the TomoCaps.
