1 Overview
The purpose of this document is to provide clear instructions on how to install and use
HighPoint NVMe RAID Controller on Linux system.
2 Installing Linux on SSD7103 RAID Controller
If you would like to install Linux onto drives attached to HighPoint NVMe RAID controller,
please perform the following operations:
Step 1 Prepare Your Hardware for Installation
After you attach your NVMe SSD to SSD7103 RAID Controller, you can use HighPoint NVMe
UEFI Utility to configure your NVMe SSD as RAID arrays, or just use them as single disks.
Before installation, you must remove all the disk drives, which are not physically attached to
HighPoint NVMe RAID controller, from your system.
Note
SSD7103 only support UEFI boot .If you have other SCSI adapters installed, you must make sure
the SSD7103 UEFI will be loaded firstly. If not, try to move it to another PCI slot. Otherwise you
may be unable to boot up your system.
Step 2 Check System UEFI Settings
1. Set UEFI setting with SuperMicro X11DAi-N motherboard as an example.
a. Set "Boot Mode Select" to "UEFI";

b. And "Advanced->PCIe/PCI/PnP Configuration->CPU Slot PCI-E OPROM" to "EFI". Suppose
HighPoint NVMe is connected to motherboard CPU1 Slot 1 PCI-E X16,then you should set
"CPU1 Slot 1 PCI-E X16 OPROM" to "EFI";
c. Disable "Secure Boot", set "Attempt Secure Boot" to "Disabled".
2. Set UEFI setting with ASUS PRIME X299 -DELUXE motherboard as an example
a. Set "Boot from Storage Devices" to "UEFI driver first";
b. And "Boot Device Control" to "UEFI Only" or "UEFI and Legacy OPROM";

c. Set "OS Type" to "Other OS".
Step 3 Flash UEFI Rom to HighPoint NVMe
a. Unzip HighPoint NVMe UEFI package to root dir (/) of a USB flash driver, and insert the
USB flash drive to the motherboard;
b. Booting from the UEFI USB flash and enter the UEFI environment ;
c. Command with “SSD7103.nsh”, flash UEFI rom to HighPoint NVMe Controller and reboot.

Step 4 Create Array
a. Attach four NVMe SSD to HighPoint NVMe RAID Controller ;
Note
Make sure your USB flash partition format is NTFS or FAT32.
b. Boot, in the presence of the motherboard Log screen, there will be NVMe SSD
information：
c. Enter the motherboard’s Boot List and select start from UEFI USB flash:
d. Command ”mode”, ”mode 160 53” to change the resolution:

e. Command “ArrayCreate.efi” to enter the Utility:
f. Command “create RAID0 ”.
Create RAID0 array with all disks and with maximum capacity.
g. Command “exit”；
h. For more command usages, refer to Appendix A.
Step 5 Install OS
Install CentOS7.6
1. Prepare the driver Diskette
Insert the USB diskette in to the USB port. The USB diskette stands for USB flash disk and USB hard disk. Put
the diver files on a USB hard disk.
Windows:

Insert the USB diskette, create a MS-DOS filesystem and extract the archive file to the USB diskette.
Linux:
# mkdir /mnt/hptdrv
# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/hptdrv
# tar HighPoint_NVMe_CentOS_7u6_x86_64_v1.1.0_19_06_12.tar.gz /mnt/hptdrv
# umount /dev/sda1
a. Install driver from USB diskette for RHEL/CentOS Linux 7.6
1) Put the CentOS install DVD in your CD-ROM and then reboot your system.
2) Boot, view RAID information that appears on the motherboard Logo screen:
3) Start installing RHEL/CentOS Linux by booting from the installation UEFI DVD.’
4) On the startup screen. Just select “Install CentOS 7”, press “e” .
5) Type “inst.dd modprobe.blacklist=nvme” and then press Ctrl+X to start installation.

6) When following messages show up, type the line number that line with the LABEL of USB flash drive.
In this example, type 1 and press Enter
7) Choose driver disk ISO file, In this example, type 1 and press Enter
8) Select drivers to install
a) [ ] /media/DD-2/rpms/x86_64/kmod-redhat-hptnvme-v1.1.0-19_06_12_el7.6.x86_64.rpm,
In this example, type 1 and press Enter
b) [x] /media/DD-2/rpms/x86_64/kmod-redhat-hptnvme-v1.1.0-19_06_12_el7.6.x86_64.rpm
In this example, type c and press Enter

9) After the driver is installed, type c and press Enter to continue the system installation
10) When the installation switches to the graphical installation, select "continue".
11) Refer to RHEL/CentOS Linux installation guide to continue the installation and when installation finishes and
prompts you to reboot the system:
12) After successful reboot, if you want to update the kernel, you need to download and install the Linux open
source driver of SSD7103 on the official website before updating the kernel.
a) Step1：install Linux open source driver

b) Step2：update kernel：#yum update
c) Step3：Select the system entry after the update
Support command: help/info/quit/exit/create/delete.
