CPT Current Position Transmitter
Installation Operation& Maintenance Manual

1. Introduction
1.1. Purpose
The purpose of this manual is to introduce and explain the installation, operation and maintenance of
CPT (Current Position Transmitter) for electric actuators. Before you start work, please read this manual
carefully and this manual contains important information regarding the installation, operation,
maintenance for HQ series electric quarter turn actuator. This manual can be changed without notice for
quality improvement.
1.2. Safety Notices
Safety notices in this manual outline precaution the user must take to reduce the risk of personal injury
and damage to the equipment. The user(s) must read these instructions before the installation, operation
or maintenance of HQ-series electric actuators.
DANGER:
Refers to personal safety and alerts the user to danger or harm.
The hazard or unsafe practice will result in severe injury or death.
WARNING:
Refers to personal safety. Alerts the user to potential danger.
Failure to follow warning notices could result in personal injury or death.
CAUTION:
Directs the user’s attention to general precautions that, if not followed, could
result in personal injury and/or equipment damage
.
Notes: Highlighted information is critical to the user’s understanding of the actuator’s
installation and operation.
2. Pre-check points before operation
2.1. Check point
2.1.1. User should confirm if actuator and valve are assembled correctly and firmly.
2.1.2. And check limit switches, stopper bolts, indicator setting.
2.1.3. Please check electric power, input and output signal, and wiring and etc.
2.1.4. In case electric power is 3 phases, you must check Rotating direction of actuator.
2.1.5. How to check rotating direction
① Place actuator at the position 50% by manual first, and supply electric power for about 5 seconds
toward “Close” from panel.
② Then, you will understand actuator is operating in correct or opposite direction. If it turns to
“Open” direction, cut the power, and change two wires of the three of 3 phases.
3. General concept
3.1. General information
As a potentiometer reads actuator’s current position and transfers resistance value to CPT card.
And it indicates actuator position throughout the stroke by 4~20 mA output signal.

4. Main function and how to use Zero / Span setting

4.1. Pleased put about 50% open position of the actuator by manual first, then supply electric power to
close from panel.
4.2. When the actuator is fully closed, adjust Zero volume to achieve 4 mA
4.3. Same as above way, open from panel. And when the actuator is fully opened, adjust Span volume
to achieve 20mA.
4.4. This adjustment may be repeated several times to achieve accurate output value.
5. Tools of adjustment
5.1. 1 set of Allen key (L-wrench mm)
5.2. Small size of driver
5.3. A set of spanner
5.4. Dc signal generator (0~25 mA dc)
5.5. Ac volt, dc volt, Ohm meter
5.6. mA dc meter (0~25 mA dc)
6. How to set for normal open actuator
Note:
Above subject means that you need to change direction of the actuator from clock wise close
type (It is same means counter clock wise open type.)
6.1. Open top-cover of the actuator using Allen key
6.2. Cross change wiring of P1, P3 (Red, Black) where connected to Potentiometer in CPT card.
6.3. Change wiring of No.9, No.10 first and No.11, No.12 in Terminal block.
6.4. Change direction of Position indicator.
6.5. Move indicator at about 50% open position by manual, and confirm the output value in panel (4mA when
closed, 20mA when opened)
7. How to set potentiometer
7.1. Put the actuator at fully closed position.
7.2. Make resistance value of lead wire of Potentiometer range from 80 to 1,200 HM
7.3. Attach and adhere Point shaft gear to Potentiometer gear and tighten them using Allen key (L-wrench).
7.4. Fix Potentiometer by putting spring as below picture.
8. How to set limit switches
8.1. Make valve and/or damper fully closed by turning manual handle in direction of CW as you pull handle
lever of actuator.

8.2. Using L-wrench, loosen clamp bolts on cam. And rotate CLS cam clock wise or counter clock wise until
switch lever arm rides on the curved portion of the cam. Then tighten fixing bolt by using L-wrench.
(Actuator can go further toward closed position as CLS cam is rotated toward CCW like below picture).
8.3. Rotate actuator and/or damper to open position. And rotate OLS cam clock wise or counter clock wise
until switch lever arm rides on the curved portion of the cam. Then tighten fixing bolt by using L-wrench.
(Actuator can go further toward closed position as OLS cam is rotated toward CW like below picture)
.
9. Maintenance
9.1. Test operation in regular: You’d better do test operation in regular (once a week). And please always
supply electric power even though actuator and valve are not used for more than a month.
9.2. Periodical maintenance: Periodical check and maintenance is necessary for long term operation. You
should do overhaul check at least once a year and do maintenance immediately if required.
9.3. General manual: This manual is mainly for CPT card. So, please refer to HQ series IOM manual if you
need more detailed information.

WARNING:
Turn off all power before attempting to perform maintenance on the CPT.
POTENTIALLY HIGH PRESSURE VESSEL. Before removing or disassembling your actuator, ensure
that the valve or other actuated device is isolated and not under pressure.
