Here you will find a description of the rear panel components of the Horizon TV HD+ box.

Contents of the box
Carefully unpack the the box and check that you have received all the
components listed below.

Horizon Welcome screen Do not unplug When the personalisation text appears, read it
carefully. Make your preferred choice using the
UP & DOWN keys and press the OK key. Now
you can enjoy the ‘Welcome to Horizon’ video.
After the welcome video, the MAIN MENU
is displayed on your TV.
Press OK on the remote control to select.
Then wait for the system to complete
your personal setup.
What do I need?
Remote control
The rst time your box is booted up it may take up to 1 hour to complete setup, so please be
patient. Never unplug the Horizon TV HD+ box from the electrical outlet during this time.
TIP
Horizon TV HD+ box start up
Switch ON the Horizon TV HD+ box using the power switch on the back of the box.

2. Your Remote Control
The Horizon remote control enables you to operate
all features of Horizon TV HD+ easily.
Please point the remote control directly at the
Horizon TV HD+ box for optimal results.
* The remote control must be paired to your TV before the TV controls work. 10

• The remote control has a sensor which detects which side is facing
up and will activate only those keys. In case you want to use the
keyboard side while this side is facing down you can press the lock
key to activate all keyboard keys while they are facing dow

Pair the remote control with the Horizon Mediabox
• Make sure that your Horizon Mediabox is turned on and that there
is a clear sight between the Horizon Mediabox and the remote
control
• Turn the remote control 90o with the keyboard side facing up
• Press and hold the pairing key for 10 seconds aiming to the Horizon
Mediabox (see also page 5)
• If pairing is successful you will see a notication on your TV set
7. Keyboard for text entry
• CAPS: trigger the letter to appear in capital, press it a second time to
de-activate
• Fn (green): press and hold this key while pressing a key with a green
character will activate the green character
• Fn (yellow): press and hold this key while pressing a key with a yel-
low character will activate the yellow character

3. Discover Horizon
The Main menu
The Main menu is the home screen of the Horizon TV
HD+ box. You can access the main areas from here.
Provides programme information about what
is playing in the background.
NOW ON TV
Press MENU and use
the left and right arrow
keys to navigate all seven
Main menu options.
Discover TV and On Demand suggestions
that are selected just for you.
SUGGESTED
Browse through the programmes for
the next fourteen days.
TV GUIDE
Press BACK when NOW ON TV is highlighted to
close the Main menu and to watch TV.
You can lter on programme genre by selecting
Genre View.
The more you watch TV, the better the
suggestions that match your preferences (you
can switch this function on or o at any time
in SETTINGS)

Install Twonky on all devices on your home network.
With this you can easily share your media les
(see page 33) not all devices require Twonky.
While you type, the Horizon TV HD+ box provides

The Channel menu
When you press BACK while watching TV, you open the
channel bar of the Horizon TV HD+ box.
Using the arrow keys, navigate through the
Picture-In-Picture screens of other channels.
Press OK to start a recording or set a
reminder.

ON DEMAND
Go to On Demand in the Main menu for a
complete overview of all On Demand content.

With this you pause or resume a TV programme, On
Demand movies, recordings or the media le from
your own Home network that is currently playing.
PAUSE / PLAY
To access the Action menu,
press OK when watching
TV or when a programme is
highlighted.
When watching TV, press the OK key for more than
1.5 seconds to pause your screen.

Discover Horizon
The Action menu
With the Action menu you can modify the settings of
the channel you are currently watching. You can also
request extra information about the programme.

Access the world of Connected Apps for interactive
entertainment and information.

RELATED
RELATED can be available now or in the future. Press OK if
you want to play available RELATED or setup recording
instantly.

4. Connecting to your Home Phone
If you ordered a UPC Home Phone subscription with your new Horizon TV HD+
box or already have our Home Phone service, connect the telephone cable
(RJ11 type) between TEL socket 1 of the box and your Home Phone.

You can use any of the four network ports. The positioning of the HD+ box is an
important factor in the quality of the Wi-Fi coverage through the home.
TIP
Connecting to your personal computer over WiFi
You can connect your PC to the Horizon TV HD+ box using WiFi. Instructions for
how to connect to your PC are provided for the following operating systems:

5. Connecting to your personal
computer
If you ordered a UPC Fibre Power Broadband subscription with your new Horizon TV HD+ box or if you already have our
Broadband service, you can connect the Horizon TV HD+ box with an ethernet cable or over WiFi to your computer.

What’s a home network?
The Horizon TV HD+ box can connect to your computer,
smartphone, tablet or Home Media Storage. You can connect any of
these devices using a wired (ethernet) or wireless connection. Once
connected, a device may then access the internet via the Horizon TV
HD+ box. In addition it is also possible to stream your personal photos,
videos and music to your TV.

The overview below displays steps you have to execute in order to
successfully setup a Home network or to make a connection to an existing
network.
Write down your home network details. The network name (SSID) and the
password can be found on the bottom of your Horizon TV HD+ box. Then
you have them always to hand.

How can I play media les with the Horizon TV HD+
box?
After installing Twonky on your computer, smartphone and/or tablet,
perform the following steps to stream your media le on your TV:
1. Go to My Library in the navigation menu of your Horizon TV
HD+ Box.
2. Then select My Devices.
3. Select the device that contains the media les you want to stream.
4. Select the media le and stream.*
How does sharing media les on other devices
with the Horizon TV HD+ box work?
Sharing your favourite media with the Horizon TV HD+ box is made
possible by the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standard. The
Twonky software ensures that your computer, smartphone and/or tablet
supports this standard. If you have other devices that contain media les,
it is important that these devices also support DLNA in order to access the

With the Horizon TV HD+ box you can enjoy your photos,
movies and music on your TV. To make this possible you
need, besides setting up a home network, specic
software installed on your computer, smartphone and/or
tablet. Therefore, UPC oers you the free Twonky
application. If your device is DLNA compliant then you
may not need to download the Twonky application.
Twonky is specically developed for sharing media les. Twonky
enables you to stream your personal media les, stored on your
computer, smartphone and/or tablet computer, to your TV using the
Horizon TV HD+ box.
Install Twonky on your computer
Perform the following steps:
1. Go to upc.ie/horizon
2. Log in using your My UPC username and password.
3. Click on Download Twonky and follow the instructions on screen.
Install Twonky on your smartphone and/or tablet
Download the free app ‘Twonky Mobile’ through the Apple App Store
(iOS) or Google Play (Android). You can nd a download link to both
apps on the Twonky Information page at My UPC.

9. Safety Instructions
POWER
- Insert the power plug rmly.
- Ensure the Horizon TV HD+ box and your TV are turned o before
connecting power cables.
- Do not insert the power plug before connecting the power cable
to the product.
- Do not touch the main body, power cable, or power plug with wet
hands.
- Do not connect multiple devices to a single outlet simultaneously.
- If video/sound cable generates heat after connection, pull out the
power plug and contact our Customer Care Team on 1908.
- The UPC Connection box must be installed near the equipment and should
be easily accessible.
INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE
- Install the Horizon TV HD+ box in an area with good ventilation.
- Install the Horzion TV HD+ Box in accordance with
the instructions in the user manual.
- Do not install in humid or dusty areas, and avoid installing
near heating devices.
- Keep ammable substances or sprays away from the Horizon TV HD+ box.
- Do not cover the top of the Horizon TV HD+ box.
- Do not put anything heavy on top of the Horizon TV
HD+ Box since it can aect the front panel functionality.
- Do not spray water directly on the unit and do not use chemical
solvents such as wax, mosquito spray, alcohol or detergent.
- Do not place the Horizon TV HD+ box on an unstable support.
- Do not disassemble, repair, or remodel.
- Do not place any metal items such as pins, paper
clips or coins on the top of the Horizon TV HD+ box.
- Risk of electric shock, DO NOT OPEN.
- Pull out the power plug during thunderstorms or when
not used for a prolonged period of time.
- Pull out the power plug at once and contact our Customer
Care Team on 1908 if unusual noise or smell comes out.
- Wipe the box with a soft and dry cloth when cleaning.
GENERAL
- Check if the coaxial cable is correctly grounded before
connecting to the Horizon TV HD+ box.
- Please keep this manual for future reference.
