Before You Start
CAUTION Static electricity can damage electronic components.
Turn all equipment OFF. Don’t let your clothes touch the accessory.
To equalize the static electricity, rest the accessory bag on top of the Net
PC while you are removing the accessory from the bag. Handle the
accessory as little as possible and with care.
WARNING There is a danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly installed. For your
safety, never attempt to recharge, disassemble, or burn the old battery.
Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by
the manufacturer. The battery in this PC is a lithium battery which does not
contain heavy metals, nevertheless, in order to protect the environment, do
not dispose of batteries in household waste. Please return used batteries to
the shop from which you bought them, or to the dealer from which you
purchased your PC, or to HP, so that they can either be recycled or disposed
of in an environmentally sound way. Returned used batteries will be accepted
free of charge.

WARNING For your safety, never remove the NetVectra PC’s cover without first
removing the power cord from the power outlet and any connection to
a telecommunication network. Always replace the cover before
switching the NetVectra PC on again.
Removing the Cover
1Switch off the display and computer.
2Disconnect all power cables and any telecommunication cables.
3Remove the screws at the rear of the NetVectra PC.
4Slide the cover back a few inches.

5Pull the sides outward and lift off the cover.
Replacing the Cover
1Ensure that you have installed all your accessories and that all
internal cables are properly connected and safely routed.
2Pulling out the sides, lower the cover onto the NetVectra PC as
shown.

Removing the Front Chassis
1Remove the cover (described in this chapter).
2Remove the two screws at the top of the chassis.
3Carefully slide the front chassis forward until it is free of the main
chassis, then place it upside down on the main chassis. Be careful not
to pull or damage the cables.

4On the system board, remove the front panel connector and the
floppy disk connector (if you have one).
5Remove the connectors from the hard disk drive.
6Remove the connector from the CD-ROM drive (if you have one).
7Lift off the front chassis and place it on a flat work surface. You are
now ready to install accessories, such as a slim CD-ROM drive or slim
floppy drive.

1Replace the connectors to the CD-ROM drive and the hard disk
drive.
2On the system board, replace the floppy drive connector and the
front panel.
3Carefully slide the front chassis back into the main chassis.
CAUTION Be careful not to damage the cables when you replace the front chassis.
4Replace the two screws on the top of the chassis.

1Disconnect the computer’s power supply cord and any connection to
a telecommunication network.
2Remove the computer’s cover (described in this chapter).
3Remove the front chassis and place it upside down on the rear of the
NetVectra PC (described in this chapter). It is not necessary to
disconnect any cables.
4Open the two tabs and remove the old memory module.

5Line up the two side notches correctly and insert the new memory
module. (You can use either slot.)
6Replace the front chassis, ensuring that all cables are properly
routed as you slide it carefully into place.
7Replace the two screws to secure the front chassis.
8Replace the cover (described in this chapter) and reconnect all
cables and power cords.

Your NetVectra PC has one hard disk drive installed. You can replace
the installed disk drive with a larger disk drive.
1Remove the computer’s cover (described in this chapter).

3Disconnect the power and data cables at the rear of the drive.
4Remove the screws securing the hard disk drive.

6Carefully slide the hard disk drive into the shelf, and secure the drive
with the screws.

8Connect the power and data cables to the rear of the drive. The
connectors are shaped to go in one way only.
9Reconnect the front panel cable, the CD-ROM drive cable (if you
have a CD-ROM drive), and the floppy disk drive cable (if you have a
floppy disk drive).
10 Replace the front chassis (described in this chapter).
11 Replace the cover (described in this chapter) and reconnect all
cables and power cords.

Replacing a Slim CD-ROM Drive
WARNING To avoid electrical shock and harm to your eyes by laser light, do not
open the laser module. The laser module should be serviced by service
personnel only. Do not attempt to make any adjustment to the laser
unit. Refer to the label on the CD-ROM for power requirements and
wavelength. This product is a class 1 laser product.
1Remove the computer’s cover (described in this chapter).
2Remove the front chassis (described in this chapter).
3For improved access, remove the hard disk drive (described in this
chapter).
4Remove the CD-ROM’s data adaptor from the back of the CD-ROM
drive.
5Unfasten the four screws that secure the CD-ROM in position.

7Remove the CD-ROM rail from the old CD-ROM drive and attach it to
the new drive.
8Insert the new CD-ROM drive.
9Fasten the four screws to secure the CD-ROM drive.
10 Attach the CD-ROM’s data adaptor to the back of the CD-ROM drive.
11 Replace the hard disk drive (described in this chapter).
12 Place the front chassis upside down on the rear of the NetVectra PC.
13 Connect the data cable to the CD-ROM drive and the system board.
14 Reconnect the hard disk drive cables, the front panel cable, and the
floppy disk drive cable (if you have a floppy disk drive).
15 Replace the front chassis (described in this chapter).
16 Replace the cover (described in this chapter) and reconnect all
cables and power cords.

1Switch off the display and computer, and disconnect the power
supply cables and any telecommunication cables.
2Remove the computer’s cover (described in this chapter).

4For improved access, remove the hard disk drive (described in this
chapter).
5Undo the three screws and remove the old floppy drive from the
front chassis.
6Remove the tray from the old floppy drive and attach it to the new
drive using the screws provided.

7Slide the floppy drive into the front chassis and secure it with the
three screws.
8Replace the hard disk drive (described in this chapter).
9Place the front chassis upside down on the rear of the NetVectra PC.
10 Connect the ribbon cable provided to the floppy drive and the system
board. To do this, first lift the tab, then insert the cable, and finally
push the tab back into place.
11 Reconnect the hard disk drive cables, the front panel cable, and the
CD-ROM drive cable (if you have a CD-ROM drive).
12 Replace the front chassis (described in this chapter).
13 Replace the cover (described in this chapter) and reconnect all
cables and power cords.

2Remove the screw and open the retaining bracket.
3Hold the old accessory board firmly and carefully pull it out.
If you are installing an ISA accessory board, you may need to slide
the front chassis forward to allow access (described in this chapter).

4Align the board’s connector with the slot’s socket. Firmly press the
board into the socket. Ensure that the board’s connector engages
completely with the socket.
5Close the retaining bracket and fasten the screw.
6If you moved the front chassis, slide it back into place and replace the
two screws.
7Replace the cover (described in this chapter) and reconnect all
cables and power cords.
