Fixed Rack Kit Installation
HP Workstations
This document describes how to prepare select HP workstations for installation into a fixed rack.
Kit Contents
The following components are included in your fixed rack kit:
ÅWARNING: Metallic particulates can be especially harmful around electronic equipment. This type of
contamination may enter the data center environment from a variety of sources, including, but not limited
to, raised floor tiles, worn air conditioning parts, heating ducts, rotor brushes in vacuum cleaners, or
printer component wear. Because metallic particulates conduct electricity, they have an increased
potential for creating short circuits in electronic equipment. This problem is exaggerated by the
increasingly dense circuitry of electronic equipment.
Over time, very fine whiskers of pure metal can form on electroplated zinc, cadmium, or tin surfaces. If
these whiskers are disturbed, they may break off and become airborne, possibly causing failures or
operational interruptions. For over 50 years, the electronics industry has been aware of the relatively
rare, but possible, threat posed by metallic particulate contamination. During recent years, a growing
concern has developed in computer rooms where these conductive contaminants are formed on the
bottom of some raised floor tiles.
Although this problem is relatively rare, it may be an issue within your computer room. Since metallic
contamination can cause permanent or intermittent failures on your electronic equipment,
Hewlett-Packard strongly recommends that your site be evaluated for metallic particulate contamination
before installation of electronic equipment.

Supported Racks
Your HP workstation can be mounted in the following racks:
■HP Series-E Rack
■Compaq Rack
■Many third-party racks, including those with pre-threaded columns
NOTE: Each type of rack requires different hardware and tools. Notes in this document identify those
differences.
Overview
To mount your tower system in a rack, you must:
1. Collect tools and equipment.
2. Prepare the rack.
3. Remove the top panel and foot from the chassis.
4. Attach the rack mounting brackets.
5. Mount the workstation in the rack.
These steps are explained in this document.
Collect Tools and Equipment
1. Verify that your rack kit contains the kit contents identified earlier.
2. Select the appropriate bag of hardware from three bags included with the kit:
❏M5 hardware
❏M6 hardware
❏10-32 hardware with two rail adapters
NOTE: If your rack requires different hardware, you must to provide it.
3. Obtain the required screwdriver(s):
❏Phillips-head screwdriver
❏T-15 Torx driver or flat-blade screwdriver
❏T-25 Torx driver (required for M5 hardware only)

Prepare the Rack
1. Install the rails on your rack.
❏Compaq Rack: Use M6 hardware and follow the rail installation instructions.
❏HP Series-E rack: Use M5 hardware and follow the rail installation instructions. (M6 screws are
required to attach the rails to the front columns of this type of rack.)
❏Rack with pre-threaded columns: Use the rail adapters in the 10-32 hardware bag to convert the
rails as shown (use M6 screws to attach the adapters):
2. Install glide strips on the rails if desired.
NOTE: The glide strips make it easier to slide the workstation in and out of the rack and prevent the rails
from scratching the workstation.
a. Remove the backing from the adhesive on the back of the plastic strip.
b. Apply the strip to the top surface of each rail.

Remove Top Panel and Foot from Chassis
ÅWARNING: Never remove the system access panels without first turning the system off and unplugging
the power cord from the outlet or Power Protection Device.
1. Turn off the system and disconnect the power cable and all other cables from the back of the system.
2. Remove the side access panel from the chassis:
a. If necessary, unlock the access panel on the workstation. (The access panel keys are attached to
the back panel.)
b. Pull out on the latch to release the access panel.
c. Tilt the access panel open, then lift it off.
3. Using a T-15 Torx driver or flat-blade screwdriver, loosen the screw on the bottom of the chassis.

4. Pull the release and slide the foot toward the front of the chassis, then lift it off.
5. Using a screwdriver, push gently through the opening on the top of the chassis to release the top panel.
6. While continuing to push the release button, grasp the top panel and slide it toward the back of the
system.
7. Lift the plastic panel off of the system chassis.
NOTE: If the top cover is difficult to remove, remove the right side cover by removing the two screws
attaching the side cover to the rear of the chassis. Then push the side cover toward the top of the
workstation. Be sure to replace the right side cover and front bezel after removing the top cover.

8. Replace the side access panel:
a. Lower the access panel onto the chassis (aligning the guide rail on the bottom inside edge of the
access panel with the bottom edge of the workstation chassis).
b. Close the access panel, ensuring that the guides on the top of the access panel slide into the rails
at the top of the chassis.
9. If desired, lock the access panel using the key provided.
Attach Rack Mounting Brackets to Workstation Chassis
1. Lay the workstation on its side with the top of the chassis on your right and the bottom on your left.
2. Attach the left bracket:
a. Align the left bracket with the screw holes on the left side (bottom) of the chassis.
b. Use a Phillips screwdriver and two M4 flathead screws to attach the bracket.
c. Attach the right bracket using the same procedure.

Mount the Workstation in the Rack
1. Place the workstation on the rails and slide it into the rack:
a. Holding the workstation with both hands to support its weight, set the workstation on the rails.
b. After the workstation is securely seated on the rails, push the workstation to slide it all the way
into the rack.

2. Secure the workstation onto the rack. Perform these steps on both sides of the workstation:
On an HP or Compaq rack:
a. Attach M5 or M6 clipnuts as shown:
b. Attach the bracket to the rack using the appropriate hardware for your rack.
NOTE: On a rack with pre-threaded columns, the screws attach directly to the column.
3. Attach the trim piece and warning label to the rack above the workstation.
ÅWARNING: This warning label includes instructions for safely removing the workstation from the rack.
This information is intended to prevent damage to the workstation and injury to personnel.

時間経過と と もに、 純金属の細かいウ ィ スカが、 電気 メ ッ キ亜鉛、 カ ド ミ ウム、 錫な どの金属の表
面に形成さ れる場合があ り ます。 こ れらのウ ィ ス カが空気中に散乱する と 、 故障や稼動中断などの
原因にな る場合があ り ます。 50 年以上もの間、 電子産業は金属微粒子汚染によ る障害がまれに発生
する こ と を認識 し ていま し たが、 最近では、 高床タ イルの底に こ れ らの通電汚染が発生する コ ン
ピュータ ルームへの心配が高ま っ ています。
これらの問題はまれに しか発生 し ませんが、 お使いの コ ン ピ ュー タ ルームで問題にな る場合があ り
ます。 金属微粒子汚染は、 お使いの電子機器に永久的、 または、 間欠的な障害を引き起 こ し ますの
で、 電子機器を イ ンス ト ールす る前に金属微粒子汚染の調査を行 う こ と を強 く おすすめ し ま す。

お使いの HP ワーク ステーシ ョ ンは、 次のラ ッ クに取 り付けられます。
■HP シリーズ-E ラック
■Compaq 製ラ ッ ク
■あらかじめカラムが取り付けられているサード パーテ ィ 製の ラ ッ ク
注記 : 各種 ラ ッ ク に よ って必要 と な るハー ド ウ ェ ア と ツールが異な り ます。 本書の注記では、 こ れら の違
いを明記し てい ます。
概要
お使いの タ ワー シ ス テ ム を ラ ッ ク に取 り 付け る には、 以下の手順で行い ま す。
1. ツールと装置を準備する
2. ラックを準備する
3. トップパネル と脚をシ ャーシか ら取 り 外す
4. ラック マウン ト ブラケッ ト を取り付ける
5. ワーク ステーシ ョ ンを ラ ッ クに取り付ける
ツール と 装置の準備
1. ラック キッ トに前述のキッ トの内容が含まれていることを確認します。
2. キッ トに含まれている 3つのバ ッ グの う ち、 該当する ハー ド ウ ェ ア バッグを選びます。
❏M5 ハー ド ウ ェ ア
❏M6 ハー ド ウ ェ ア
❏10-32 ハー ド ウ ェ ア （レール アダプタ x 2 付属）
注記 : お使いの ラ ッ ク で異な る ハー ド ウ ェ アが必要 と な る場合は、 ご用意 く だ さ い。
3. 必要な ド ラ イ バを準備 し ま す。
❏プラス ドライバ
❏T-15 トルクス ドライバまたはマイナス ドライバ
❏T-25 トルクス ドライバ （M5 ハー ド ウ ェ アでのみ必要）

ラックの準備
1. ラックにレールをインストールします。
❏Compaq 製ラ ッ ク : M6 ハー ド ウ ェ ア を使用し て、 レールの イ ン ス ト ール手順に従い ま
す。
❏HP シリーズ-E ラック : M5 ハー ド ウ ェ ア を使用 し て、レールの イ ン ス ト ール手順に従い
ます。 （ こ の種類の ラ ッ ク のフ ロ ン ト カラムにレールを取り付けるには、 M6 ネジが必
要です。）
❏あらかじめカラムが取り付けられているラ ック : 10-32 ハー ド ウ ェ ア バッグのレール ア
ダプ タ を使っ て、 以下に示す よ う にレールを変換 し ます。 （ア ダプ タ の取 り 付けには
M6 ネジを使用します。）
2. 必要で あれば、 滑 り ス ト リ ッ プを取 り 付け ま す。
注記 : 滑りス ト リ ップにより、 ワークステーションをスライドさせてラックから出し入れすることが容易
にな り 、 レールに よ っ て ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ンに傷がつ く のを防ぎ ます。
c. プラスチッ ク ス ト リ ッ プの裏面の粘着シールをはが し ます。

d. 各レールの表面にス ト リ ップを貼り付けます。
トップパネルと脚をシャーシから取り外す
Å警告 : システムのアクセス パネルは、 必ずシス テムの電源を切 り 、 コ ン セン ト または電源保護装置
か ら電源 コ ー ド を抜いてか ら取 り 外 し て く だ さ い。
1. システムの電源を切り、 システムの背面から電源ケーブルとすべてのケーブルを取り外し
ます。
2. シャーシからサイド アクセス パネルを取 り 外し ます。
a. 必要で あれば、 ワ ー ク ス テーシ ョ ンのア ク セ ス パネルのロ ッ ク を解除し ます。 （ア ク セ
スパネルのキーは、 背面パネルに取 り 付け られています。）
b. ラッチを引き、 アクセスパネルを開けます。
c. アクセス パネルを斜めに開け、 持ち上げて外し ます。

3. T-15 トルクス ドライバまたはマイナス ド ラ イバを使って、 シャーシの底のネジを緩めま
す。
4. リ リ ースを引き、 脚をシ ャーシの正面に向けてス ラ イ ド させ、 持ち上げて外し ます。
5. ド ラ イバを使って、 シ ャ ーシ上部の開口部か ら ト ッ プ パネルを静かに押し、 ト ッ プパネル
を外し ます。
6. リリースボタンを押したまま、 ト ップ パネルを持ち、 シ ス テム の背面に向かっ て ス ラ イ ド
させます。

7. プラスチッ ク パネルを持ち上げ、 システム シャーシから取り外します。
注記 : トップカバーの取 り 外 し が困難な場合は、 サ イ ド カバーをシ ャーシの後側に取 り 付けている 2本
のネジを取り外して右側のカバーを外します。ワーク ステーシ ョ ンの上部に向かってサイ ド カバーを押し
ます。 ト ップ カバーを取 り 外し た後、 必ず右側のサ イ ド カバーと フ ロ ン ト ベゼルを元に戻し て く ださ い。
8. サイ ド アクセス パネルを元に戻し ます。
a. アクセス パネルをシ ャーシに乗せます。 （ア ク セス パネルの底部内側の端のガ イ ド
レールをワーク ステーシ ョ ン シャーシの底部端に合わせます。）
b. アクセス パネル上部のガ イ ド が シ ャ ーシ上部の レールで ス ラ イ ド す る こ と を確認 し て、
アクセス パネルを閉じて く だ さい。
9. 必要で あれば、 付属のキーで ア ク セ ス パネル を施錠 し て く だ さ い。
ラック マウン ト ブラケッ トのワークステーション シ ャ ーシへの取 り 付け
1. ワーク ステーシ ョ ンの側面を下にし、 ワーク ステーシ ョ ンの上部が右側、 底部が左側にな
るように置きます。
2. 左側のブ ラ ケ ッ ト を取 り 付け ま す。
a. 左側のブ ラ ケ ッ ト を シ ャ ーシの左側 （底部） のネジ穴に合わせます。
b. プラス ド ラ イバを使って、 2本の M4 皿ネジでブ ラ ケ ッ ト を取 り 付けます。

c. 右側のブ ラ ケ ッ ト を同様に取 り 付け ます。
ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ンのラ ッ クへの取 り 付け
1. ワ ー ク ス テーシ ョ ン を レールに乗せ、 ス ラ イ ド し て ラ ッ ク に押 し 込みます。
a. 重量を支え る ため両手で ワ ー ク ス テーシ ョ ン を持ち、 ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ン を レールに
セッ ト します。
b. ワーク ステーシ ョ ンを レールにし っか り と乗せた後、 ワーク ステーシ ョ ンを ラ ッ クの
一番奥ま で ス ラ イ ド さ せます。

2. ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ン を ラ ッ ク に固定 し ます。 以下の手順を ワー ク ス テーシ ョ ン の左右両側
に対し て行います。
HP または Compaq 製ラ ッ クの場合
a. 下図の よ う に M5 または M6 クリップナットを取り付けます。
b. お使いのラッ クに適したハード ウェアを使って、 ブラケッ ト をラ ッ クに取り付けます。
注記 : あ ら か じ めカ ラ ムが取 り 付け られている ラ ッ ク の場合は、 ネジはカ ラ ムに直接取 り 付け ます。
3. トリムピース と警告ラベルを ワーク ステーシ ョ ンの上のラ ッ クに取 り付けます。
Å警告 : こ の警告ラ ベルには、 ワー ク ス テー シ ョ ン を ラ ッ ク から 安全に取 り 外す手順が記載 さ れてい
ます。 こ の情報は、 ワー ク ステ ーシ ョ ンへの損傷 と 人体へのケガ を防ぐ ための ものです。
4. ケーブルと 電源を取 り 付けます。
