Front fan kit installation
This document describes how to install a front fan in an HP workstation. The front fan provides extra
cooling for full-length PCI cards.
Kit contents
The kit for your workstation includes the following components:

✎This optional front chassis fan is recommended only if it is required for non-factory-integrated high power
PCI cards. When this fan is installed, HP recommends that you verify that the temperatures of the PCI card
and other components are within the limits recommended by the component suppliers.
Observe warnings and cautions

a hot surface or hot component. If this surface is contacted, the potential for injury exists. To reduce the

ÅWARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to your equipment:
❏Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The grounding plug is an important safety feature.
❏Plug the power cord in a grounded (earthed) outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
❏Disconnect power from the equipment by unplugging the power cord from the electrical outlet.

ÄCAUTION: Static electricity can damage the electronic components of the workstation. Before beginning
these procedures, be sure you are discharged of static electricity by briefly touching a grounded metal
object.
✎NOTE: HP accessories are for use in HP workstation products. They have been extensively tested for
reliability and are manufactured to high quality standards. HP, therefore, warrants only those accessories
that are manufactured or sold by HP.
Step 1—Prepare the workstation
Your workstation documentation includes instructions for disassembling and preparing the workstation for
installation, including powering down the workstation, disconnecting power from the workstation, opening
the access panel, and removing components.

workstation at http://www.hp.com/support/workstation_manuals.

Step 2—Install the front fan and card guide
After you have prepared the workstation for installation, perform the following steps to install the front
fan.
1. Remove the card guide from the chassis. Release the two card guide latches. Pivot the card guide
toward the system board 1, and lift it out of the chassis 2. (The following figures show an HP
xw8400 Workstation for reference.)

2. Attach the front fan to the card guide. Place the fan in the card guide with the fan label facing into the
card guide, and the fan protector screen facing outward. There is an arrow on the fan to indicate proper
air flow direction. Place the fan wire through the slot in the card guide. Snap the fan into place in the
card guide.

3. Lower the front fan/card guide assembly into the chassis 1, rotate it back 2, and snap it into place. Be
sure that the airflow direction arrow on the side of the fan faces the rear of the chassis. Connect the
front fan wire connector to the front fan connector on the system board 3.

Step 3—Reassemble the workstation
After installing the front fan/card assembly, reassemble the workstation using the instructions in the
workstation documentation. Reassembly involves reinstalling the side access panel and restoring power to
the workstation.

ステップ 2－フロン ト ファンとカード ガイドの取り付け
取 り 付ける ワーク ステーシ ョ ンの準備ができ たら、 次の手順に従ってフ ロ ン ト ファンを取り付
けます。
1. シャーシからカード ガイドを取り外します。 2つのカー ド ガイド ラッチを外します。 カー
ドガード をシステム ボー ド の方向に回転し て (図1参照 )、シャーシから持ち上げて取り
出します ( 図2参照 )。(次の図は、 参考 と し て HP xw8400 Workstation の例を示し ていま
す。 )

2. フロント ファンをカード ガイ ドに取り付けます。 ファンのラベルをカード ガイドに向け、
ファンのプロテクタ スク リーンは外側に向けて、 ファンをカード ガ イ ド に位置合わせ し ま
す。 フ ァ ンには、 エア フ ローの方向を示す矢印が付いています。 フ ァ ンの ワ イ ヤはカー ド
ガイドの溝に通します。 ファンをカード ガ イ ド にはめ込みます。

3. フロント ファン/カード ガイ ドのアセンブリ をシャーシに下ろし ( 図1参照 )、2の向き
に回転 さ せて所定の位置にはめ込みます。 こ の と き 、 フ ァ ンの側面に あ る エ ア フローを示
す矢印がシ ャーシの背面に向いてい る こ と を確認し て く だ さ い。 フ ロ ン ト ファン ワイヤを
システム ボー ド上のフ ロ ン ト ファン コネクタに接続します( 図3参照 )。

ステップ 3－ワーク ステーシ ョ ンの再組み立て
フロント ファン/カード アセンブ リ の取り 付けが完了したら、 説明書に従ってワーク ステー
シ ョ ン を再組み立て し ます。 こ の作業には、 サ イ ド アクセス パネルの取 り 付けおよ び電源の再
投入が含まれます。
