This white paper describes how to create jobs for capturing and deploying Windows Server 2008
images using the Microsoft ImageX utility. The information in this white paper applies to RDP 6.0.1 or
later, Windows Server 2008 with SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 on HP Integrity servers.
Windows Server 2008 with SP2 on HP Integrity Servers
This section describes how to create jobs to capture and deploy a Windows Server 2008 with SP2
production image using the Microsoft ImageX tool.
Note
If you imported the ImageX image capture and deploy job instead of
creating it in RDP, you must create the following directory:

Creating a job to capture a Windows Server 2008 with SP2 image
To create a job to capture a Windows Server 2008 with SP2 production image using the Microsoft
ImageX tool, follow these steps:
1. Create a new job. For example, capture_windows2008_SP2_ImageX.
2. Add a Run Script task to uninstall the HP Insight Management Agents utility. Follow these steps:
a) In the Run the script from file field, enter .\hpfeatures\ws6-ia64-
en_us\oem\sysprep-pre.vbs.
b) In the Choose the script operating system field, select Windows.
c) In the Script Run Location field, select On the client computer.
d) In the Client run environment field, select Production.
3. Add a Create Disk Image task to execute sysprep and capture the operating system image.
Follow these steps:
a) In the Imaging Tool field, enter ImageX.
b) In the Name field, enter .\hpfeatures\ws6-ia64-en_us\images\w2k8image.wim.
c) Select Prepare using Sysprep.
d) In the Operating System field, choose Windows Server 2008 IA64. The product key
field is filled in automatically.
e) Click Sysprep Advanced settings and select Install additional device drivers. Then,
in the Additional drivers path field, enter .\hpfeatures\ws6-ia64-
en_us\oem\drivers.
f) In the Automation pre-boot environment field, select WinPE Managed (64 bit).
4. Add a Run Script task to mount and capture the ESP partition. Follow these steps:
a) Select Run this script and enter the following script:

c) In the Script Run Location field, select On the client computer.
d) In the Automation pre-boot environment field, select WinPE Managed (64 bit).
5. Add a Run Script task to assign a letter to the HPSP partition and capture it. Follow these steps:
a) Select Run this script and enter the following script:

6. Add a Distribute Software task to re-install minimal ISP components. Follow these steps:
a) In the Name field, enter .\hpfeatures\ws6-ia64-en_us\oem\sysprep-post.cmd.
b) Select Copy all directory files.
7. Add a Power Control task. Follow these steps:
a) Select Restart.
b) Select Force applications to close without a message.
8. Execute the job on the managed server. After the job is completed, the images of ESP, HPSP, and
MSDATA partitions are stored in the Altiris shared directory ready to be deployed.

Creating a job to deploy a Windows Server 2008 with SP2 image
To create a job to deploy a Windows Server 2008 with SP2 image using the Microsoft ImageX tool,
follow these steps:
1. Copy the \hpfeatures\ws6-ia64-en_us\sysprep.xml file and rename it. For example,
sysprep-deploy.xml.
2. Edit the sysprep-deploy.xml file, substituting the original Altiris tags with the following ones
(in blue text):

3. Create a new job. For example, deploy_windows_SP2_ImageX.
4. Add a Distribute Disk Image task. Follow these steps:
a) Select Select disk image file.
b) In the Name field, enter .\hpfeatures\ws6-ia64-en_us\bin\EFINTFS.IMG.
c) Unselect Automatically perform configuration task after completing this
imaging task.
d) In the Automation pre-boot environment field, select WinPE Managed (64 bit).
5. Add a Power Control task. Follow these steps:
a) Select Restart.
b) Select Force applications to close without a message.
6. Add a Run Script task to mount and deploy the captured ESP image. Following these steps:
a) Select Run this script and enter the following script:

8. Add a Run Script task to deploy the captured MSDATA image. Follow these steps:

9. Add a Run Script task to modify the BCD settings. Follow these steps:
a) Select Run this script and enter the following script:

10.Add a Run Script task to create a sysprep-deploy.xml file to be used by Windows mini-
setup. Follow these steps:
a) Select Run this script and enter the following script:

11.Add a Distribute Software task to re-install minimal ISP components. Follow these steps:
a) In the Name field, enter .\hpfeatures\ws6-ia64-en_us\oem\sysprep-post.cmd.
b) Select Copy all directory files.
12.Add a Power Control task. Following these steps:
a) Select Restart.
b) Select Force applications to close without a message.
13.Execute the job on the managed server.
Windows Server 2008 R2 on HP Integrity Servers
This section describes how to create jobs to capture and deploy a Windows Server 2008 R2
production image using the Microsoft ImageX tool.
Note
If you imported the ImageX image capture and deploy job instead of
creating it in RDP, you must create the following directory:

tool, follow these steps:
1. Create a new job. For example, capture_windows2008_R2_ImageX.
2. Add a Run Script task to uninstall the HP Insight Management Agents utility. Follow these steps:
a) In the Run the script from file field, enter .\hpfeatures\ws7-ia64-

Deploying images to the BL8x0 i2 server blades
If you previously captured a Windows Server 2008 R2 image installed with Version 6.2 or earlier of
RDP or by some other method, you must install the HP HW Device INF file for Windows Server 2008
and 2008 R2 offline in the OS image. Follow these steps:
1. Create a temp folder. For example: C:\File
2. Mount the WIM file (for example, w2k8r2image.wim) to the local file with the following
command:
ImageX /mountrw w2k8r2image.wim 1 C:\File
3. Inject the drivers with the PEimg tool with the following command:
PEimg /inf=patch_path\hphwdevice2.inf C:\File
4. Commit the changes to the WIM file with the following command:
ImageX /unmount /commit C:/File
5. Deploy the WIM file to the BL8x0 i2 server blades.
