Installation
Instructions
Read instructions completely before
beginning the installation procedure

About this document
Use these instructions to install a cooling fan into an hp
ProLiant ML530 or ML570 server with SDLT or Ultrium tape
drives. Refer to your server documentation for complete
instructions to install a tape drive.
Note: With the exception of a 90° rotation, installation in a tower
server is similar to that of a rack version shown in these instructions.
Step 1: Power down the server
Step 2: Remove the top/side panel
Note: Before the installing fan, be sure all PCI adapters have been
installed in the server
Step 3: Remove the tape drive or blanks

Step 4: Connect fan power and place into
server
Note: Be sure power cable is in front of fan before positioning
assembly in back of bay.
Step 5: Attach bracket with fasteners into
holes
Note: Use holes marked G1 for generation 1 servers or G2 for
generation 2 servers. Generation 2 servers are identified by G2 in
the corner of the front bezel.
Step 6: Connect drive power, SCSI cable
(not shown), and install tape drive
Step 7: Slide chassis out from rear of the
server
Step 8: Route fan cable on side of tape
drive
Note: For optimal air flow, route cables on side of tape drive away
from the fan.
Step 9: Replace chassis and top/side
panel
Caution: While sliding the chassis into place be sure to
route internal cables away from fans.
