Requirements
Server: Red Hat 8.0 Professional is certified for use with HP Server tc2110, tc3100,
tc4100, lp1000r [1.13/1.26/1.4 GHz] and lp2000r [1.13/1.26/1.4 GHz]
Hardware settings: You will need to know the following information to complete the
installation:
· The monitor's resolution, color depth, and refresh rate.
· The display (graphics) adapter manufacturer and model number.
· The Ethernet card manufacturer, model number, IRQ, and I/O address.
· IP address for the server
· Subnet Mask
· Default Gateway
· Machine Name
· Domain Name
Other requirements:
· Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional CD-ROM.
· A minimum of 128MB of RAM (256MB or more recommended).
· A full installation of Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional requires around 4.5 GB
· One or more Network Interface Cards (NIC).
· One or more clean/new hard drives.
· Latest system BIOS update. (http://www.hp.com)

Installing Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional
1. Power on the server, and insert the Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional Installation CD
in the CD tray to start the installation.
2. The NOS will boot and display the boot prompt. Press Enter. If you would like to
pick the order in which drivers are loaded, enter the command:
linux noprobe
3. At the Language selection screen, select your language then press Next.
4. At the Keyboard Configuration screen, select your keyboard. Press Next.
5. At the Mouse Configuration screen, select your mouse. Check the box Emulate 3
buttons. Press Next.
6. At the Install Type screen, select Custom System. Press Next.
NOTE: If you receive a message about "Bad partition tables", please choose to
initialize all the hard drives.
7. Select Manually partition with Disk Druid to begin preparing the hard disk. Press
Next.
8. Disk partitioning will vary depending on the type of services the server will provide.
The amount of swap space required also varies depending on the amount of RAM in
the system.
The following partitioning scheme is given as an example.
9. Create a boot partition.
A. Click on the free space under Device.
B. Click New
Note: If you double-click on the free space, instead of clicking on New, a
different "add partition" screen will come up, with different options. In this
screen, you must specify the Start and Ending Cylinders of the partition you are
creating, instead of specifying the size of the partition.
C. Set the parameters as follows:
Partition type: Ext3
Allowable drives: sda (If you have multiple drives available)
Mount point: /boot Size:75

NOTE: Click on the other drives to deselect them.
Additional Size Options:
You will have the opportunity to choose the following additional options:
- Fixed Size (MB)
- Fill all space up to (MB)
- Fill to maximum allowable size
- Leave at fixed size
- Force to be a primary partition
- Check for Bad Blocks
Leave the above items unchecked, unless you want to check for bad blocks. If you
choose this option, be aware that the check will take a considerable amount of
time, depending on drive size.
D. Click OK.
10. Create a swap partition.
A. Click New.
B. Set the parameters as follows:
Mount point: <not applicable> Size: 256
Partition type: swap Allowable drives: sda
NOTE: Click on the other drives to deselect them.
C. Click OK.
11. Create a root partition.
A. Click New.
B. Set the parameters as follows:
Mount point: /Size:2048
NOTE: If you will be choosing to install ALL packages, it will take 4,680Mb, so
you will need to increase the size of the / partition to at least that amount. If you
wish, you may choose to allow the partition to fill to a particular size (which you
specify), or to the maximum allowable size.
Partition type: Ext3 Allowable drives: sda
NOTE: Click on the other drives to deselect them.

C. Click OK. Click Next.
12. At the boot loader configuration screen, you need to accomplish the following
tasks:
-- Choose "change boot loader" to change to LILO or NO BOOT LOADER,
otherwise, leave the default of GRUB.
-- Verify that "Red Hat Linux" is selected as the default operating system to boot.
-- Choose whether to create a boot loader password or not. (The default is none).
-- Choose "advanced boot loader options" to choose where to install boot loader to:
MBR or the first sector of the boot partition.
Click Next.
13. Configure your network interfaces. You can use DHCP (recommended) or static IP to
configure the network interfaces. Click Next.
14. At the Firewall Configuration screen, configure the firewall to suit your
requirements. Click Next.
15. At the Language Selection screen, select all the languages you would like support
for. Click Next.
16. Select the appropriate timezone for your area. Click Next.
17. Enter the root password. On the next line, reconfirm the password. The password will
not get displayed. Click Next.
18. Create any additional accounts required by clicking Add.
19. Set the Authentication schemes that apply to your network. Click Next.
20. At the Package group selection screen, select the software package that suits your
need. You can customize the preset packages by clicking on Select individual
packages. Click Next.
21. This is the last step before the install begins. If you would like to make a last minute
change, click on Back, otherwise click Next.
22. The package installation process will now begin. The projected time for completion
will be shown.
23. (Optional) After the package installation process, if you have installed the X Window
System, you will have to configure your video hardware.

A. The first step is to select the video card. The installer should have already probed
the card. Verify that the correct card was identified with the proper amount of
RAM. Click Next.
B. At the Monitor Configuration screen, select your Monitor. Entering wrong
horizontal and/or vertical sync rate may damage your monitor. Please
consult your system documentation. Click Next.
C. At the "Graphic Configuration" screen, select the color depth and the screen
resolution. Click on Test setting to ensure that the monitor will support the
chosen configuration. You may also have to select between the two desktop
environments: KDE and GNOME. If you set the login type to Graphical, the GUI
will be loaded at boot time. Click Next.
24. After all packages are installed, you will be able to create a boot disk. Insert a new
floppy disk in the drive and press Next. When the process completes, carefully label
the floppy Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional boot disk and store it in a safe place.
25. Installation instructions for installing HP Instant Top Tools and Agents can be found
in the README file that accompanies those software packages. These software
packages can be downloaded from the HP website at:

26. Finish the installation and reboot the system.
If you are using an Intel 10/100 NIC (D5013B, P2511A, P3492A) or the Embedded
10/100 NIC, then complete the steps below. If you are not using one of these NIC's
the Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional installation is complete.
Hewlett Packard does not support the default NIC driver installed with Red Hat
Linux 8.0 Professional for the Intel 10/100 NIC (D5013B, P2511A, P3492A) or the
Embedded 10/100 NIC. The steps below load the NIC driver that Hewlett Packard
supports.
27. From the console, enter the command: cd /etc
28. Enter the command: vi modules.conf
29. Change the alias ethXeepro100 to alias ethXe100
NOTE: The Xin ethXshould be the number corresponding to the NIC you are
working with.
30. Save and quit VI.
31. Enter the command: lsmod

32. Enter the command: ifdown ethX
NOTE: The Xin ethXshould be the number corresponding to the NIC you are
working with.
33. Enter the command: rmmod eepro100
34. Enter the command: ifup ethX
NOTE: The Xin ethXshould be the number corresponding to the NIC you are
working with.
35. Enter the command: /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart
36. Confirm that the driver listed in "lsmod" is e100
37. Run ifconfig ethX, and try to ping the address assigned to this adapter to verify
that the interface is working correctly, followed by a ping to another device on the
network.
38. Installation of Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional is complete.
