MSL6000 salient features
The portfolio of HP StorageWorks MSL6000 Tape
Libraries provides centralized backup to a single
automated device, freeing valuable IT resources for
more strategic work. The libraries are ideal for medium
to large IT networks, with or without a storage area
network (SAN), experiencing uncertain data growth.
MSL6000 Tape Libraries provide change without
chaos, simplicity without compromise and growth
without limits to meet even the most demanding IT
network requirements.
Change without chaos
• MSL6000 Tape Libraries are available with a broad
choice in tape technology, including: Ultrium 960,
Ultrium 460 and SDLT 600.
• MSL6000 Tape Libraries are available with either
Fibre Channel or SCSI interfaces for use in direct
or network attached environments.
• Upgrade to a new drive technology for increased
capacity or performance by simply installing the
new drive into the current library chassis.
• With the MSL6000 controller-based architecture,
start with direct-attach configurations and easily
move to a SAN-based storage environment with only
an interface card upgrade.
Simplicity without compromise
• The user-friendly GUI control panel and web interface
make library management easy from a remote
or on-site location.
• The world-class diagnostic tool, HP StorageWorks
Library and Tape Tools, is available with every
library at no additional charge.

performance, mission-critical automated mid-range
and departmental backup and restore solutions.
• MSL6000 Tape Libraries are the market leaders in the
mid-range segment (21–100 slots) with over 28 percent
market share (IDC branded market survey, 1H’2005).
• MSL6000 Tape Libraries provide the performance and
capacity that are required to address increasing data
volume and decreasing backup windows.
• MSL6000 LTO Tape Libraries can scale from one drive
and 30 slots to 16 drives and 240 slots allowing
capacity and performance to increase as the volume
of data grows.
• Easy-to-use front panel GUI and web-based remote
