This document describes the features, restrictions and guidelines, open problems, and workarounds for
version R2106. Before you use this version in a live network, back up the configuration and test the
version to avoid software upgrade affecting your live network.

Due to the temperature sensor is connected to the back plane, users cannot read temperature of the

LSD074321
Symptom: The master board experiences unexpected reboot or hung because of fatal error.
Condition: When system receives DHCP packet which contains abnormal option 82 field.
Resolved problems in R2105
LSD070876
Symptom: The DHCP server supports a maximum of 128 static IP bindings while some scenarios
need more static IP bindings. The maximum number should be changed to 1000.
Condition: This issue exists on the DHCP server.

Appendix B Upgrading software
This appendix describes how to upgrade the software on a switch.
Software used for upgrade
The software used on a switch includes:
BootWare image—Contains a basic section and an extended section. The basic section is the
minimum code that bootstraps the system. The extended section enables hardware initialization
and provides system management menus.
When you upgrade the BootWare, upgrade both the basic section and extended section to avoid
compatibility problems.
System software image—Contains hardware drivers and service features. There are two types of
system software image: main, and backup.
At startup, the switch always attempts to boot with the main system software image. If the attempt
fails, the switch tries to boot with the backup system software image.
The BootWare and system software images might be Featured separately or as a whole in one .bin
package file. Typically, these images for this switch series are Featured in one .bin file such as main.bin.
NOTE:
You can change the type for the main or backup system software image by using the CLI or BootWare
menu.
Upgrade methods
You can upgrade the software by using one of the following methods:
Upgrading method
Remarks
Upgrading from the CLI
You must reboot the switch to complete the upgrade.
This method can interrupt ongoing network services.
Upgrading from the BootWare
menu
Use this method when the switch cannot correctly start up.
CAUTION:
Upgrade an IRF fabric from the CLI rather than the BootWare menu.
The BootWare menu approach requires that you upgrade the member
switches one by one.

NOTE:
Make sure that the system software and BootWare are compatible. For the compatibility between the
system software and BootWare, see the hardware and software compatibility matrix in the Feature
Notes
The command outputs in this document are for reference only.
Upgrading from the CLI
This section uses a two-member IRF fabric as an example to describe how to upgrade software from the
CLI. If you have more than two subordinate switches, repeat the steps for the subordinate switch to
upgrade their software. If you are upgrading a standalone switch, ignore the steps for upgrading the
subordinate switch. For more information about setting up and configuring an IRF fabric, see the
installation guide and IRF configuration guide for the HP 6125 Blade switch series.
Preparing for the upgrade
Before you upgrade software, complete the following tasks:
1. Log in to the IRF fabric through Telnet or the console port (details not shown).
2. Perform the display irf command in any view to identify the number of IRF members, and the role
and IRF member ID of each member switch.

4. Compare the free Flash space of each member switch with the size of the software file to be
downloaded. If the space is sufficient, start the upgrade process. If not, go to the next step.
5. Delete obsolete files in Flash to free space:
CAUTION:
To avoid data loss, do not delete the current configuration file. For information about the current
configuration file, perform the display startup command. HP recommends that you preferentially delete
obsolete software images. To avoid inadvertent delete of the current software images, perform the
display boot-loader command in any view to identify them.
The delete /unreserved file-url command deletes a file permanently and the action cannot be undone.
The delete file-url command moves a file to the recycle bin and the file still occupies storage space. To
permanently delete the file from the recycle bin, perform the reset recycle-bin command in the original
path of the file.
a. Delete obsolete files from the Flash memory of the master switch.

Downloading software to the master switch
Before upgrade, make sure you have downloaded the new software to the root directory in Flash memory.
This section describes downloading a system software image file newest.bin as an example.
Use one of the following methods to download the software file to the master switch:

Using the switch as the TFTP client
Prerequisites
Make sure the IRF fabric and the PC can reach each other.
Prepare the FTP or TFTP server program for the PC (at 10.10.110.1) by yourself.
Using the switch as the FTP client
This example uses the switch as the FTP client and uses the PC as the FTP server.
To download the file from the PC to the master switch:
1. Run the FTP server program on the PC, configure an FTP username and password, specify the
working directory, and copy the file newest.bin to the directory.
2. Perform the ftp command in user view to access the FTP server.

Using the switch as the FTP server
This example uses the switch as the FTP server and uses the PC as the FTP client.
To upload the file from the PC to the master switch:
1. On the IRF fabric:
a. Enable the FTP server.

b. Add a local FTP user account, set its password and access service type, and assign it to the
user role network-admin for uploading files to the working directory of the server.

Using the switch as the TFTP client
This example uses the switch as the TFTP client and uses the PC as the TFTP server.
To download the file from the PC to the switch:
1. Run the TFTP server program on the PC, specify the working directory, and copy the file, for
example, newest.bin, to the directory.
2. On the IRF fabric, perform the tftp command in user view to download the file to the root directory
in the Flash memory of the master switch.

Upgrading the BootWare
Automatic upgrade
To run the new system software image, you must reboot the switch. During the reboot, the system prompts
you to upgrade the basic section and extended section of BootWare if the BootWare image included in
the system software image is newer.
Extend BootWare Version is not equal,updating? [Y/N]
Basic BootWare Version is not equal,updating? [Y/N]
Enter Yto upgrade the basic section and extended section. If you enter N, the switch does not upgrade
the BootWare image. If you perform no operation, the switch upgrades the entire BootWare image by
default.
NOTE:
HP recommends that you upgrade both the basic and extended sections to avoid compatibility
problems.
If you choose to not upgrade the BootWare image, the system will ask for an upgrade at the next reboot
performed by powering on the switch or rebooting from the CLI (promptly or as scheduled). If you fail to
make any choice in the required time, the system upgrades the entire BootWare image.
Manual upgrade
NOTE:
Automatic upgrade mode is recommended.
To manually upgrade the BootWare:
# Perform the copy command to copy the system software image newest.bin that contains the new
BootWare image from the master to the storage media of the subordinate with the member number 2.
Make sure to save the image to the storage media of all member switches.
<Sysname> copy newest.bin slot2#flash:/

Upgrading the system software
To upgrade the system software by using the boot-loader command:
1. Perform the copy command to copy the system software image file newest.bin from the master to
the root directory of the storage media on the subordinate with the number 2. Make sure to save
the system software image to the root directories of the storage media of all member switches.
<Sysname> copy newest.bin slot2#flash:/
Copy flash:/newest.bin to slot2#flash:/newest.bin?[Y/N]:y

2. Perform the boot-loader command in user view to load the file newest.bin and specify the file as
the main image file at the next reboot.
